Over the centuries, the Cloth Market has undergone many changes and its current form doesn’t resemble the old market in the least. In the Middle Ages, the cloth market was composed of a double row of stone stalls which created a street in the middle of the main square. This form had been preserved until the middle of the 14th century. Then the Cloth Market had a Gothic character until 1555, when the market burned down. From 1556 until 1559 the market was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. In the 19th century, the Cloth Market was altered for the last time. Currently, the building houses two rows of stalls selling mostly jewellery, souvenirs, handicraft products or fake-folk products. On the first floor, there is the Gallery of the Nineteenth-Century Polish Art showcasing paintings and sculptures. It is a division of the National Museum in Kraków. At the ground floor there is the famous Noworolski cafe. Below the outer part of the Cloth Market there is the preserved and working historic gas lighting. http://filmcommissionpoland.pl/locations/database/sukiennice-krakow-IAt5p6
