The article’s aim is to review all film adaptations of S. Lem’s prose over the years.
Starting from the first optimistic attempts that were created in socialist countries (Silent Star, Ikarie XD 1), through later adaptations
referring to a psychological dimension of such literature (Solaris, Hospital of the Transfiguration), up to the last, international production
“Congress”, Lem’s art intrigued many filmmakers for a number of reasons. In changeable political, cultural and technological circumstances I am trying to discern a particular regularity that is connected with those choices, and interpret and evaluate them.
