long time parishioner Mrs. Sophie Schultz pass away.
Mrs. Schultz was a member of St. Mary’s choir and
the Rosary Confraternity, as well as a member of the
Book Committee in 1995.
We ask for you to have her present in your prayers, and
ask for her eternal rest.
May God Who called you, take you home!

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B

Jesus teaches that whoever is not against him is for him.
Background on the Gospel Reading
Today we continue to read from the Gospel of Mark. Recall that
last week we heard Jesus chastise his disciples for their argument about who among them was the greatest. Jesus taught
them that the greatest among them will be those who serve the
least ones. In today's Gospel, the disciple John questions Jesus
about an unknown exorcist who was driving out demons in Jesus' name. John's question might have been motivated by jealousy. Previously in Mark's Gospel, Jesus healed a boy whom
the disciples had been unable to heal. John's question is further
evidence that the disciples have not yet grasped Jesus' words to
them. They continue to compare themselves to others who seem
to have greater healing powers, and they do not want to share
the power of Jesus' name with others.
Today the demon possession described in the Gospels might be
seen as a form of mental illness, but the need for healing these
syndromes was as real then as it is now. Exorcism was a common practice in first-century Palestine. Some people had the
power to heal the symptoms of possession. One of the strategies
used was to invoke the name of a person or figure who was believed to have the power to heal.
The disciples observed that the unknown exorcist invoked Jesus'
name and was successful in his healing efforts. This unknown
healer recognized the power of Jesus' name, yet he was not a
follower of Jesus. In his reply to his disciples, Jesus acknowledges that deeds of faith can precede the words of faith. He also
teaches that the disciples should not be reluctant to share Jesus'
healing powers with others.
Later in this Gospel, Jesus teaches us not to create obstacles for
those who are just beginning to have faith but to encourage even
the smallest signs of faith. The Greek word used here for sin
also connotes “stumbling” or “causing scandal.” In vivid terms
Jesus teaches his disciples the consequences to those who
would put obstacles before people who are on the road to faith.

very profound ways. Some of it may very well be difficult for us to
hear.

What the Church Teaches
• Because “human nature was assumed, not absorbed,” in the mysterious union of the Incarnation, the Church was led over the course
of centuries to confess the full reality of Christ’s human soul, with its
operations of intellect and will, and of his human body. (§ 470, Catechism)
• Since the Word became flesh in assuming a true humanity,
Christ’s body was finite. Therefore the human face of Jesus can be
portrayed.... (§ 476, Catechism)
• Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony,
and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us...He has
loved us all with a human heart. (§ 478, Catechism)
• By his Incarnation, he, the Son of God, has in a certain way united
himself with each (person). We are called to become one with him,
for he enables us as the members of his Body to share in what he
lived. (§521, Catechism)
The word “Incarnation” means that God, the Second Person of the
Trinity, took our human flesh. This is one of the central Christian
mysteries. There are depths to this reality that we will never plumb.
At the same time, when we reflect upon this mystery, we can discover some truths about God and about humanity.
First, we discover something essentially true about God. God so
loves humanity, that God is willing to become one with humanity.
(See John 3:16) The Incarnation was one moment in history, but it
doesn’t end there. Christ still has our human nature. He didn’t leave
it behind at the Ascension. God’s desire is to bring each human
being into unity with God. We are all invited to be part of the church,
the Body of Christ, where we can share in God’s life with us. The
goal of our lives in the church is to be in the presence of God in the
life to come.
Second, because of the Incarnation, we discover something about
humanity. Each human person has a dignity and worth that cannot
be discounted. We are made in God’s image - which does not mean
that we physically look like God. It means that we have reflected in
our own being the powers to imagine, to create, to love. God is infinite, we are finite. Our powers are certainly not equal to God’s, but
they reflect God’s image within us. We are made in God’s image
and in the person of Jesus, God took on our flesh. Our very being is
what God assumes and makes holy. Our flesh is not to be discarded or ignored. It is the ground for holiness. This is true of every
person.
God so loved the world that he gave us his Son. Jesus so loved
each one of us, that he offered his own body as sacrifice on the
Cross. This sacrifice exists in an eternal moment, just as his Resurrection does. (We are limited by space and time; God is not.) Christ
continues to offer himself to us - his love, his life, his very Body and
Blood - in the Eucharist. When we eat and drink from his table, are
bodies are joined to Christ, our bodies and souls prepared for immortality. Each time we receive communion, we receive Christ and
share in a small taste of what heaven will be.
Christ enables us to live in him, sharing what he himself lived, and
he lives in us. It is because of our creation as beloved by God, and
our redemption, through Christ’s love for us, that we are able to
become holy. It is not an impossibility, but the very point of our existence. Christ’s dwelling with us as flesh and
blood shows us the way to that possibility.

en la vida que ser echado con los dos pies al abismo.
Y si tu ojo te hace caer, sácatelo: más te vale entrar
tuerto en el Reino de Dios que ser echado al abismo
con los dos ojos, donde el gusano no muere y el fuego
no se apaga.

moje, nie będzie mógł zaraz źle mówić o Mnie. Kto bowiem nie
jest przeciwko nam, ten jest z nami. Kto wam poda kubek wody
do picia, dlatego że należycie do Chrystusa, zaprawdę, powiadam wam, nie utraci swojej nagrody. Kto by się stał powodem
grzechu dla jednego z tych małych, którzy wierzą, temu byłoby
lepiej uwiązać kamień młyński u szyi i wrzucić go w morze.
Jeśli twoja ręka jest dla ciebie powodem grzechu, odetnij ją;
lepiej jest dla ciebie ułomnym wejść do życia wiecznego, niż z
dwiema rękami pójść do piekła w ogień nieugaszony. I jeśli
twoja noga jest dla ciebie powodem grzechu, odetnij ją; lepiej
jest dla ciebie, chromym wejść do życia, niż z dwiema nogami
być wrzuconym do piekła. Jeśli twoje oko jest dla ciebie powodem grzechu, wyłup je; lepiej jest dla ciebie jednookim wejść
do królestwa Bożego, niż z dwojgiem oczu być wrzuconym do
piekła, gdzie robak ich nie umiera i ogień nie gaśnie.

Wszystkie trzy czytania dzisiejszej Mszy w bardzo bezpośredni
i znaczący sposób zachęcają nas do refleksji. Niektóre z tych
kwestii mogą być trudne dla nas.
Która myśl albo zdanie z czytań dzisiejszej Mszy jest dla ciebie

RÓŻANIEC ze swej
natury jest modlitwą
pokoju z racji samego
faktu, że polega na
kontemplowaniu Chrystusa, który jest Księciem Pokoju i « naszym pokojem » (Ef 2, 14). Kto przyswaja sobie misterium
Chrystusa - a różaniec właśnie do tego prowadzi dowiaduje się, na czym polega sekret pokoju, i
przyjmuje to jako życiowy projekt. Ponadto, mocą
swego charakteru medytacyjnego, przez spokojne
następowanie po sobie kolejnych « Zdrowaś Maryjo », różaniec wywiera na modlącego się kojący
wpływ, który usposabia go do przyjmowania i doświadczania w głębi swego jestestwa oraz do szerzenia wokół siebie tego prawdziwego pokoju, który jest szczególnym darem Zmartwychwstałego
(por. J 14, 27; 20, 21)...
...Rodzina, która modli się zjednoczona, zjednoczona pozostaje. Różaniec święty zgodnie z dawną tradycją jest modlitwą, która szczególnie sprzyja gromadzeniu się rodziny. Kierując wzrok na Jezusa, poszczególni jej członkowie odzyskują na
nowo również zdolność patrzenia sobie w oczy, by
porozumiewać się, okazywać solidarność, wzajemnie sobie przebaczać, by żyć z przymierzem
miłości odnowionym przez Ducha Bożego...
...Rodzina, która odmawia razem różaniec, odtwarza poniekąd klimat domu w Nazarecie: Jezusa
stawia się w centrum, dzieli się z Nim radości i
cierpienia, w Jego ręce składa się potrzeby i projekty, od Niego czerpie się nadzieję i siłę na drogę...
...Modlitwa różańcowa za dzieci, a bardziej jeszcze z dziećmi, która wychowuje je już od najmłodszych lat do tego codziennego momentu « modlitewnej przerwy » całej rodziny, z pewnością nie
jest rozwiązaniem wszelkich problemów, ale stanowi pomoc duchową, której nie należy lekceważyć...
...Patrzę na Was wszystkich, Bracia i Siostry
wszelkiego stanu, na Was, rodziny chrześcijańskie, na Was, osoby chore i w podeszłym wieku,
na Was młodzi: weźcie znów ufnie do rąk koronkę
różańca, odkrywając ją na nowo w świetle Pisma
Świętego, w harmonii z liturgią, w kontekście codziennego życia...
