PR [email protected] Warsaw, February 21st, 2006 Chalupec in the lead again January 2006 saw Igor Chalupec, President of PKN Orlen, become the most popular media figure of all presidents representing Poland’s biggest enterprises. After a two-month break, he regained the leadership in the “Bosses of the Polish Economy” ranking compiled by the Institute of Media Monitoring. Due to the beginning of the year, media mostly published information about companies’ bosses in the context of strategies and plans adopted by the businesses they head. In January 2006, the names of presidents representing 50 companies appeared in the media 416 times: in press materials– 347, on the radio– 24, and TV – 45. The most popular media figure of all the bosses representing 50 biggest enterprises in January was President of PKN, Orlen Igor Chalupec (91 publications). He was followed by: Paweł Olechnowicz, President of Grupa Lotos (64) and Cezary Stypułkowski, President of PZU (39). The names of Igor Chalupec and Paweł Olechnowicz were chiefly mentioned when presenting the strategies of the companies they manage, trade information and in the context of investment descriptions. Their names were also often mentioned when discussing the already implemented or anticipated management reshuffling and when presenting the whole industry in the enterprises they represent. The biggest number of press quotations and mentions referring to directors and presidents of entities subject to the analysis originated from Puls Biznesu – 51. TVN24 took the fist place of all TV stations with 24 mentions, whereas Radio PIN was the first of all radio stations with 13 pieces of information. The overtone of media pieces was mostly neutral – 85%. Positive information constituted 12%, while 3% was qualified as negative statements. The turn of the year saw substantial personnel reshuffling in the Treasury-owned companies. Thus the January ranking includes only 31 representatives of key enterprises. The „Bosses of the Polish Economy in Media ” report compiled by the Institute of Media Monitoring is based on the analysis of media publications that appear in press, radio and TV. The research concerns presidents and directors of companies in Poland that are most often cited by media. The list of companies’ presidents is based on Rzeczpospolita’s List 500 published in April 2005 – the list, along with the report “Bosses of the Polish Economy in Media” is available at www.instytut.com.pl/raporty. The analysis is based on a given month’s media publications that appear in press, radio and TV stations that are currently monitored by the Institute of Media Monitoring (the list is available at www.instytut.com.pl). The Institute of media Monitoring monitors about 600 press titles, TV and radio stations, as well as Polish Internet resources. The Institute of Media Monitoring is a member of FIBEP – the elite association of over 80 media monitoring companies of dozens of countries around the world.
