December victory of PKO BP
December 2005 had PKO BP President, Andrzej Podsiadło, become the most popular media
figure of all presidents representing Poland’s biggest enterprises. For the first it happened he
arrived in the leadership of „The Bosses of Poland’s Economy in Media” report compiled by
Instytut Monitorowania Mediów. Last month, printed media spoke relatively most highly of
the presidents of oil companies – Paweł Olechnowicz from Grupa Lotos and Igor Chalupiec,
president of PKN Orlen.
475 press publications, 29 – radio and 45 TV broadcasts account for December record of media
pieces quoting or mentioning 50 presidents of Poland’s biggest firms. PKO BP president, Andrzej
Podsiadło, was December’s most popular top executive. Being mentioned by 74 publications A.
Podsiadło took over the leadership in general ranking, by this outrunning Igor Chalupiec from PKN
Orlen (72) and Paweł Olechnowicz from Grupa Lotos (68). Andrzej Podsiadło was usually
mentioned in the context of PKO BP management reshufflings. Igor Chalupiec, on the other hand,
was quoted the most often in the context of the company’s strategy and Orlen’s investments while
in case of Paweł Olechnowicz, media focused on sponsorship and society-oriented campaigns
launched by Grupa Lotos – decision to return to the financing of ski jumping competitions received
the most publicity.
Great majority of newspapers’ mentions and quotations referring to directors and presidents of
entities subject to this analysis originated from daily Puls Biznesu – 64. TVN 24 took the first place
of all TV stations with 64 mentions and Radio PIN was the first of all radio stations with a record of
20 pieces of information.
The overtone of media pieces was mostly neutral – 85%, 13% accounted for positive information
and 2% was qualified as negative statements.
While reporting on the companies’ senior executives, media mostly addressed to already
implemented or anticipated management reshufflings and description of the companies’ strategies.
Senior executives were also often mentioned on the occasion on reporting on the situation of the
industry they represent.

The report ‘The Bosses of Poland’s Economy in Media’ compiled by Instytut Monitorowania
Mediów represents the outcome of the analysis of information provided by press, radio and
television. The research introduces presidents or directors of Poland’s largest companies that
received the most of publicity. A list of 50 top executives has been built on the bases of the list of
500 biggest enterprises published by Rzeczpospolita in April 2005 – the list and the whole report
‘The Bosses of Poland’s Economy in Media’ are available at www.instytut.com.pl/raporty.
The research covers media pieces from a given month published in newspapers, broadcasted by
radio and television stations subject to the monitoring of Instytut Monitorowania Mediów (the list is
available at www.instytut.com.pl).
Instytut Monitorowania Mediów monitors nearly 500 newspapers, TV and radio stations and Polish Internet resources.
Instytut Monitorowania Mediów is a member of FIBEP – elite organization associating over 80 media monitoring
companies from several dozen of countries. Since 2002, Instytut Monitorowania Mediów have supported the
undertakings of Responsible Business Forum.
