Hospitalizacja noworodka na oddziale intensywnej terapii wiążąca się z zagrożeniem życia dziecka zaburza kształtowanie się więzi emocjonalnej między rodzicami a dzieckiem. Cel. Celem pracy była ocena poziomu lęku i poczucia winy u rodziców za stan dziecka oraz możliwość wsparcia ze strony rodziny i personelu medycznego. Materiał i metody. Badaniami objęto 39 rodziców (22 matki i 17 ojców) 24 noworodków ze średnią masą ciała 2188 g i średnim wiekiem płodowym 34,5 tygodnia. Do oceny poziomu lęku zastosowano Inwentarz Stanu i Cechy Leku (polską adaptację State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Spielberga) oraz autorską ankietę z 17 pytaniami. Obliczenia statystyczne wykonano testem nieparametrycznym Spearmana. Wyniki. Większość rodziców odczuwała wysoki poziom lęku i bezradności, 41% rodziców miało poczucie winy za stan zdrowia dziecka, u kobiet występowało istotnie statystycznie wyższe przygnębienie niż u mężczyzn, a osoby spędzające więcej czasu z chorym dzieckiem miały istotnie większe poczucie winy niż osoby przebywające krócej. Rodzice z silnym poczuciem lęku istotnie częściej nie czuli się bezpiecznie, wykazywali większe przygnębienie i silniejszy niepokój. Wsparcie ze strony współmałżonka otrzymało ponad 97% osób, ze strony rodziny 100%, a ze strony personelu medycznego 74%. Wnioski. Hospitalizacja noworodka na oddziale intensywnej terapii jest sytuacją silnie stresogenną dla rodziców, niezależnie od predyspozycji osobowościowych oraz płci. Istnieje pilna potrzeba zapewnienia tym rodzicom wczesnego i intensywnego wsparcia psychicznego ze strony całego personelu medycznego. Hospitalization in the NIC U connected with threat to child’s life disturbs the formation of emotional relation between parents and their child. Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the anxiety level and parents’ feeling of guilt for severe state of the child and opportunity for support from family and medical staff. Material and methods. The study population consisted of 39 parents (22 mothers, 17 fathers) of 24 neonates with mean the BW 2188g and the mean GA 34.5 weeks, treated in the NICU. In the assessment of parents’ anxiety level Polish adaptation of Stain-Trait Anxiety Inventory Spielberg and own questionnaire with 17 questions were applied. Non-parametric Spearman test was used in statistical analysis. Results. Most parents had a high level of anxiety and helplessness, 41% of parents felt guilty for child disease. In women there was a substantially higher depression level than in men. The parents, who longer stayed with their sick babies, statistically felt more depressed than others. The parents with a strong feeling of anxiety more frequently felt a lack of security, were more depressed and stronger upset. Support from spouse obtained more than 97% of parents, from family – 100% and from medical staff 74%. Conclusions. Hospitalization of neonates in the NIC U is a strong stressful situation for their parents, irrelevant of their individualistic predisposition and sex. Now there is an urgent need for an early and intensive support from the whole medical staff. Key words: neonate, NIC U, parents, level of anxiety, psychological support
