behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” - Luke 9:62
THE PRICE OF FREEDOM
Today’s readings promise that if we
could escape from the shackles of our attachments we would be happier, freer,
more peaceful. Luke’s Gospel begins,
“When the days for Jesus’ being taken up
were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to
journey to Jerusalem.” Aware of the opposition and danger
awaiting him, Jesus went forward.
Naturally, brave people; volunteered to join him. But Jesus
cautioned them. Could they give up their attachments to home
and possessions, friends and family, conventional responsibilities? A tough challenge, but not unprecedented. Centuries before, Elijah had criticized Elisha for wanting time just to kiss
his parents good-bye before following Elijah.
Just where would such a path take Elisha? Or Jesus’ followers? Or us? Paul tells us, “For freedom Christ set us free; so
stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” The
outcome is freedom, but if the requirements don’t give us
pause, then maybe we’re not paying close enough attention.

for Diocesan Obligations.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
First Friday of the month will be observed on July 5th. Parishioners and members of the Sacred Heart Society are invited
to the 7:00am Mass designated for all deceased members. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after Mass. All
members of the Sacred Heart Society are invited to participate
and recite the usual prayers with the Litany to Sacred Heart of
Jesus.
Scheduled adorers are asked to participate during the day and
adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the praying of the
Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and benediction.
Mass in the Polish language will be celebrated at 7:00pm.
CASH CALENDAR
July cash calendars will be available at $10 each at the main
entrance to the Basilica this weekend. Look for our dedicated

during July and at the same time support our parish

INDEPENDENCE DAY
On Thursday, we commemorate the birth of our country. On
July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from England and
democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the “land of the free and the home of the brave”
so they can begin their American Dream. As we celebrate the
4th of July and reflect on its history, our gift of freedom comes
into special focus more than ever before.
Defending our independence and preserving our national
heritage cannot be done solely by the military. It requires personal involvement, participation of every individual, and above
all, Catholic values which are inherited in our Judeo-Christian
tradition.
Traditionally this is a day of parades, family gatherings, cookouts, and fireworks displays. We wish all our parishioners
a happy, safe and enjoyable Fourth of July.
DEVOTIONS TO ST. JOSEPH
Devotions to St. Joseph will be held on Wed., July 3rd at
7:00pm. Members of the Sacred Heart Society will process
with the statue of St. Joseph from the Chapel of Our Lady of
Czestochowa to the sanctuary. Prayer intention request forms
are available in the chapel. Please print your intentions legibly
and place in the box provided. We encourage the members of
the Sacred Heart Society, parishioners and friends to join us and
take advantage of the opportunity to receive graces through the
intercession of our powerful Patron, St. Joseph.
It is worth to know that St. Joseph is included in Eucharistic
prayer I. Pope Francis I issued a decree to include St. Joseph to
the Eucharistic prayers II, III and IV. St. Joseph can not be
separated from the events surrounding the incarnation of Jesus
Christ and therefore the to him is spread throughout the world
in the Christian community.
PASTORAL REFLECTION
Many times, Jesus Christ while addressing his followers
asked them “to be vigilant”. To be vigilant, according to the
dictionary means to be keenly watchful, to detect danger, to
stay awake. To be vigilant, according to the Gospel means to be
a person of conscience who recognizes good and evil, who
makes every effort to increase the goodness in himself, who
strives to root out weeds which are seeping unsuspectingly into
our consciousness and intentionally reject the evil.
To be watchful means not to close ourselves in a backyard of
our own personal interest, of our own judgments and our own
individualistic aspirations. It means to recognize the other persons, the family, the community and to work for unity and human solidarity.
To be vigilant also means to be appreciative and feel responsible for our community, for our heritage, for our parish and for
our nation; to recognize God’s goodness in our life and experience the need of gratitude.
Throughout the ages, kings, emperors, and individuals built
churches, monasteries, hospitals, orphanages, etc. in a spirit of
gratitude tor God’s blessings in their lives. This attitude of generosity to God is competing with the mentality of entitlement
surreptitiously swayed by our culture. The gratitude to God and
appreciation of our friends should be a distinguished characteristic of our Catholic community.
FESTIVAL NEWS
An appreciation gathering will be held in the cafeteria for
all festival workers on Saturday, July 20 after the 4:00 pm
Mass. It will be sponsored by the newly organized hospitality
committee of the parish under the chairperson Cindi Gardner.
JULY BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday wishes go out to our special parishioners
who will celebrate their 90+ birthdays in July: Lottie Bronczyk,
Alice Kozub, Mary Polacek, and Emily Racicot. May your day
be blessed with sunshine, may your heart be light, and may

PARENT’S WORDS OF GRATITUDE
The Adams family who has children at St. Joseph School sent
a letter of gratitude to Sr. Jeanne, fourth grade teacher, for her
outstanding achievement in the education of their son. They
want to add the following: “From the first day of school Sr.
Jeanne has given Caleb the encouragement and drive to do the
best. Caleb has come so far this year. We believe we owe that
to all of his hard work and Sr. Jeanne’s dedication. We presented her with a mural of St. Rita, patroness of the impossible,
in gratitude to Sr. Jeanne for what she does for her students.”
A huge THANK YOU to Boy Scout Troop 173 for making
all the new booths for the festival. This undertaking was the
responsibility of Nick Daly, who did this job as part of his project toward becoming an Eagle Scout, with the help of his fellow Boy Scouts and leaders. A special thank you to John
Szymczak, Drew Lasick, John Daly, David Harelson and Koopman Lumber.
We are also grateful to general chairperson Jen Herbst who
through her discussions with Koopman Lumber had materials
donated for this project.
The incomplete estimate of gross income for the 40th festival
is $84,000. It takes time to return unused items, such as propane
gas and other supplies for which we will receive credit. A more
complete report will be given out in the next couple of weeks.
Limited amounts of pierogi, ($8) golabki, ($10) and kielbasa
($5 or $6)from the festival are available for sale after the
4:00pm Mass on Saturday and after the 8:15 and 9:30 Masses
on Sunday in the school.
NEW TUITION RATES FOR PRE-K
St. Joseph School is committed to offer your children the best
education at the lowest cost. Therefore, the Finance Board
voted to lower the Pre-K rates for the academic year 20132014. Rates for 1 child in the 5 Full-Day program is $110 per
week, 3 Full-Day program is $70 per week, and the 2 Full-Day
program is $47 per week. If you enroll 2 children the rates are
even lower. Registration forms are available at the school or

St. Anne Society - of St. Joseph Basilica is continuing their
current membership drive. It is the policy of its members to
take an active part in the spiritual functions at our parish and
the Society is proud of its long standing tradition of seeking
God’s blessings through the intercession of St. Anne, the
mother of Mary.
New members will be installed at the 8:15am Mass on
Sunday, July 28th at our Basilica. Please call President, Gen

OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

TRZYNASTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

"Ktokolwiek przykłada rękę do pługa, a wstecz się ogląda, nie nadaje się do królestwa Bożego." (Łk 9, 62)
Bóg Ojciec, powołując nas do życia,
zaopatrzył nas w przeróżne talenty.
Przygotował dla każdego człowieka jedyną
i niepowtarzalną
drogę;
jeśli
nią
pójdziemy,
odnajdziemy
satysfakcję
i szczęście. Bóg jednak nie narzuca nam
swego planu. Kieruje do nas zaproszenie i cierpliwie czeka na
naszą odpowiedź. Sam jest wierny i oczekuje wierności także
od nas. Obyśmy decyzję pójścia za Nim potraktowali na serio,
jako zobowiązanie na całe życie. Nie oglądajmy się w życiu
wstecz, ale kroczmy odważnie drogą przygotowaną przez Pana.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA
W najbliższy piątek, 5 lipca, przypada pierwszy piątek
miesiąca. Parafian i członków Sacred Heart Society zapraszamy
na Mszę św. o godz. 7:00, która będziemy sprawowali w
intencji zmarłych członków SHS. Po tej Mszy jak zwykle
wystawienie i adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu, która
potrwa do godz. 15:00 i zostanie zakończona Koronką do
Miłosierdzia Bożego. Prosimy członków wszystkich
organizacji parafialnych o adoracji w ustalonych godzinach.
Msza św. po polsku o godz. 19:00. Pół godzimy przed Mszą
możliwość spowiedzi.
DZIEŃ NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI
W czwartek 4 lipca będziemy świętowali Dzień
Niepodległości. Jest to dzień, w którym wszyscy Amerykanie
wspominają moment narodzin Ameryki i amerykańskiej
demokracji. Każdego dnia tysiące ludzi opuszcza swoje domy
aby przybyć do "ziemi wolnych i domu odważnych", aby móc
urzeczywistnić swój "American Dream". Świętując 4 lipca i
rozmyślając nad jego historią, nasza wolność staje się
przedmiotem szczególnej refleksji.
Obrona naszej niepodległości i ochrona naszego narodowego
dziedzictwa nie należy wyłącznie do armii. Wymaga to
zaangażowania każdego z nas osobiście. Przede wszystkim
musimy pamiętać o naszych chrześcijańskich wartościach.
NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Na następną Nowennę do św. Józefa zapraszamy w środę,
3 lipca. Do niesienia figury św. Józefa w procesji na
rozpoczęcie i zakończenie Mszy św. zapraszamy członków
Sacred Heart Society. Do udziału zapraszamy też wszystkich
parafian. Intencje, w których będziemy się modlili prosimy
zapisywać na karteczkach znajdujących się przy figurce św.
Józefa w kaplicy Matki Bożej (bardzo prosimy pisanie
drukowanymi literami).
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na Peter's Pence Colection.

WIADOMOŚCI FESTIWALOWE
Wszystkich, którzy pracowali w przygotowaniach, w
trakcie oraz po Festiwalu, zapraszamy na specjalne
spotkanie 20 lipca (sobota), po Mszy św. o godz. 17:00,
którego celem jest podziękowanie wszystkim, i uznanie
za ich wysiłek i zaangażowanie. Spotkanie jest
organizowanie przez Hospitality Commetee pod
kierownictwem Cindy Gardner.
Wielkie podziękowanie kierujemy do Skautów za
zbudowanie całkowicie nowych butków. Ta praca to
część projektu John'a Daly, który podjął dążąc do
uzyskania stopnia Eagle Scout. Jednocześnie dziejemy
pani Jen Herbst za negocjacje z firmą, której pracuje i
dostarczenie elementów do budowy butików.
Wstępne obliczenia i kalkulacje wykazują, że dochód
brutto z tegorocznego festiwalu wyniósł około 84 tyś.
dolarów. Dokładne dane będą dostępne za kilka tygodni.
Po festiwalu pozostało jeszcze trochę pierogów,
gołąbków i kiełbasy. Można je kupić w szkole po
wszystkich Mszach niedzielnych za wyjątkiem 11:00.
POTRZEBNI OCHOTNICY
Jak każdego lata, w szkole, korzystając z nieobecności
dzieci, przeprowadzane są różnorodne prace remontowe.
Zawracamy się z prośba do osób, które byłyby
zainteresowane pracaą przy malowaniu ścian w klasach.

OBNIŻONE OPŁATY ZA SZKOŁĘ
Szkoła św. Józefa troszczy się o to, by zapewnić
dzieciom najlepszą edukację za jak najniższą cenę,
dlatego też rada finansową postanowiła obniżyć opłaty
dla Pre-K. w nowym roku szkolnym. Dla jednego dziecka
opłata za 5 dni w tygodniu wynosi $110, za 3 dni $70
oraz dwa dni za $47. Formularze zapisowe są dostępne w
szkole. Więcej szczegółów można uzyskać pod numerem

RELIGIA
Przypominamy o zapisywaniu dzieci na katechizację na
przyszły rok szkolny. Opłata wynosi $30 za jedno dziecko
oraz $50 za dwoje lub więcej dzieci. Bardzo prosimy o
dokonanie zapisu przed zakończeniem czerwca. Po
upływie tego terminu będzie pobierana dodatkowa opłata
w wysokości $5. Formularze zapisowe są dostępne przy
wejściach do Bazyliki. Te same formularze i warunki
obowiązują przy zapisie do Bierzmowania.
ST ANNE SOCIETY
Stowarzyszenie św. Anny kontynuuje nabór nowych
członków, których uroczyste przyjęcie odbędzie się
niedzielę 28 lipca na Mszy św. o godz. 8: 15. Wszystkich
zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt z przewodniczącą

ŚWIĘTYCH OBCOWANIE
Największym pragnieniem człowieka jest być w pełni szczęśliwym. Takie jest także współczesne wołanie o
szczęśliwe życie człowieka w małżeństwie, w rodzinie, w społeczeństwie. Warunkiem szczęśliwego życia jest życie w
łasce Bożej, czyli w świętości.
Przed ludzkością pokazują się nowe zagrożenia, szczególnie do ingerowania w tajemnicę życia ludzkiego. Nasze
czasy z dużą dozą pustki, lęku, samozniszczenia, każą z większą ufnością szukać wspólnoty życia i miłości. Taką
wspólnotą, w której dokonuje się zbawienie człowieka, jest Kościół. Pierwszym punktem wyjścia dla osiągnięcia
świętości jest wszczepienie w Chrystusa, które dokonuje się w sakramencie chrztu.
Generalnie tłumacząc „wspólnota świętych” (świętych obcowanie, communio sanctorum) oznacza ponadnaturalne
zjednoczenie Kościoła na ziemi, w czyśćcu i w niebie. Te oblicza Kościoła uobecniają Kościół jako Mistyczne Ciało
Chrystusa. Głową tego Kościoła jest sam Chrystus. Odzwierciedleniem zespalającym jedność jest wzajemna miłość.
Pomocy potrzebuje zawsze walczący (prześladowany) Kościół pielgrzymujący na ziemi, i Kościół zadośćcierpiący w
czyścu.
Communio sanctorum zobowiązuje do wzajemnej miłości żywych w stosunku do zmarłych. Miłość ta wyraża się w
świadczeniu pomocy ze strony zbawionych w niebie i zobowiązuje do wstawiennictwa za żywych „wspólnoty
świętych”. Obejmuje ona zatem Kościół w wymiarze ziemskim i niebieskim.
Szeroko pojęta „wspólnota świętych” odzwierciedla prawdę, że Kościół jest ze swej natury „święty” oraz jest
„Kościołem świętych” (H. de Lubac). Kościół pragnie podkreślić, iż Bóg objawił wszystko, co człowiekowi jest
konieczne do zbawienia. I to pielęgnuje, przechowuje jako swój depozyt wiary.
Święty Paweł nazywa wierzących świętymi, jako że należą do świętego Boga, oraz zostali uświęceni przez Chrystusa.
Święci są więc orędownikami wierzących, gdy polecamy Bogu w modlitwie nasze troski i potrzeby. Wzywając ich
pomocy, uważamy ich za naszych pośredników u Boga i w takim sensie nazywamy ich patronami.
