HITTING IT BIG
It seems to be commonly accepted nowadays that everyone wants to win the lottery, hit the slots big at the casino, or be a
millionaire. This attitude is akin to what
the first hearers of the parable of the successful farmer would have thought: Why,
of course he’d want to find a way to preserve his good fortune for the future, to
secure for himself a life of leisure, eating, drinking, and merriment. It’s exactly the kind of life that the right ticket, hand of
cards, or quiz show answer might bring us today. Being surrounded by this “common wisdom” makes the words of Qoheleth, the psalmist, Paul, and Jesus all that much harder to
hear today. Perhaps good fortune will be ours, perhaps it will
not be. But if we make that fortune or the quest for it the heart,
the very center, of our lives, then we will live to regret it. We
will not achieve the future security we pursue, and we will lose
the present moment in the chase.

for Higher Energy and Fuel Costs.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
We will observe First Friday of the month on August 5th.
Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the deceased members of the
Sacred Heart Society and we request members and parishioners
to take part in this traditional First Friday service.
Scheduled adorers are invited to participate at their appointed
time. Adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the recitation of
the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and Benediction.
Mass at 7:00pm will be celebrated in the Polish language.

Jubilee Year of Mercy
“You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you”.
Hardly sounds like mercy! Unlike some contemporary rich
folks, there is no indication of lying, stealing, or cheating in
Jesus’ parable. The rich man made a living, not a killing. Why
does Jesus name him “fool”? First, because of presumption.
Five times in nine verses, the rich man declares, “I shall.”
God’s not in charge here, I am! Second, selfishness—four
times, “my/myself.” No God, no neighbor; he talks to himself,
about himself: my possessions, my productivity, my plans! So,
instead of chasing “treasure for ourselves,” Jesus and Pope
Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy bid us grow “rich in what matters to God”, namely, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
Give food, drink, clothing, and healing; visit the imprisoned;
bury the dead. Heal with Jesus’ own gentleness the doubt,
ignorance, and sins of others; comfort, forgive, be patient; and
pray for the living and dead.
FOUNDATION FOR LIFE GALA
With vigor and fervor we are pleased to announce our Gala
Fundraiser to be held at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton on
Friday, August 19th from 5:30—9:00pm. We will honor Msgr.
James Moroney, Rector at the Seminary and our Felician Sisters for their dedicated service to St. Joseph School for 125
years. We expect about 15 Sisters to join us who are natives of
Webster or have taught in our School .
Donation is $250 per person. If you plan to use the bus service provided by the parish, free of charge, please call the rectory to sign up. Profit realized from this event will benefit the
St. Joseph School Gymnasium.
This is a great opportunity to visit St. John’s Seminary,
which provides education for seminarians in the New England
area, and be able to see where they live, study and pray.
As we will be celebrating the 125th Anniversary of our
school during the upcoming year, this special occasion will
serve as the opening event for our festivities.
RICHARD A. NOWAK GYMNASIUM STATUS
It is with renewed enthusiasm and zeal that we are trying to
raise funds for the St. Joseph School Gym. We are determined
to resume construction by this Fall to avoid additional damage
to the existing structure. We are grateful to parishioners who
have been supporting this project through their donations in
their monthly envelopes. The August 19th Foundation for Life
Gala is a major step in this direction.
In addition, the Executive Gym Building Committee recently
approached the Trustees of the Friends of St. Joseph School
Fund with a request to utilize revenues from the trust principal
to partially fund the completion of the gym. The Trustees are
seeking the input of parishioners and Friends of St. Joseph
School regarding the use of the principal with a survey sheet
that is in the pews. Kindly fill out this sheet and return in the
collection basket.
We are pleased to report our enrollment at SJS this year is
198 students, compared to last year’s number of 165. This continuous growth makes the gym crucial for the physical education and athletic programs at SJS. Our students are at a disadvantage by practicing at rented facilities at odd hours.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Please join us on Wednesday, August 3rd at 7:00pm for the
Novena and Devotion to our Patron. Remember that St. Joseph
is the “Patron of a Happy Death” and it would be to our advantage to pray to him for that reason. Or maybe we have other
favors to request of him. Please note your needs on the petition
slips available in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel.
Members of the Holy Rosary Sodality will join us and assist
in bringing our Patron’s statue to the sanctuary. We appreciate
your donations.
The Icon of the Divine Mercy - is available to be brought
into your home for a period of a week or for a few days for your
family to renew your friendship and love with Jesus Christ.
Please choose a convenient time to accept the Icon and pray the
Chaplet.
WORLD YOUTH DAY IN POLAND
World Youth Day was officially opened on Tues., evening
with Solemn Mass celebrated by Stanislaw Cardinal Dziwisz,
Archbishop of Krakow on an open field outside of Krakow.
This beautiful tradition was started by Pope John Paul II in
Rome and is held every three years.
During the opening Mass, Cardinal Dziwisz emphasized the
importance of sharing faith. Many of the young people from
various countries pay a high price to practice their faith which
should be shared with others. He also reminded the audience
that this is the “Year of Mercy” which is connected to St. John
Paul II, Sister Faustina and the Divine Mercy Shrine located in
Krakow. He added, here you should develop the spark of
mercy which will ignite the world. The highlight of these several days is Solemn Mass to be celebrated on Sunday, July 31st
by Pope Francis for an estimated 1.5 million pilgrims.
Please remember to pray for all from our Diocese, who together with Bishop McManus, participated in this unique event.
SUMMER SUNDAY’S
Summertime turns Sunday - the Lord’s Day - as the day of
the week Catholics set aside just for God. The highlight of our
observance is gathering at Mass to listen to His Word and take
part in the Eucharist. Overall, our activities on Sunday should
center around thanking God for our blessings and the promise
of salvation. One of the best ways we can show God how much
we love him is to show love to each other.
Sunday is a great day to devote to the care of relatives and
friends, which may be tough during the week. Performing
works of mercy is also a fitting observation of the day. Sunday
is also a time for the reflection and meditation necessary for our
spiritual growth. It can be the one day in the week.
Friday Night Bingo - will be held on August 5th in our
school cafeteria. We invite parishioners and friends to join us
for a fast paced evening of camaraderie. Doors open at 5:00pm
and games begin at 6:45pm. Proceeds benefit the parish
Parents of our school children and the Home School Association will be on hand to assist our lucky players.

OSIEMNASTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

„Naucz nas liczyć dni nasze,
abyśmy osiągnęli mądrość serca.” (Ps 90, 12)
Podczas Mszy świętej gromadzimy się wokół
ołtarza, świadomi największego skarbu, jaki
otrzymaliśmy od Boga. Właściwa hierarchia
wartości porządkuje nasze odniesienia do
świata oraz rzeczywistości nadprzyrodzonej.
Warto posłuchać św. Pawła i „przyoblec się
w nowego człowieka”, oświeconego mądrością
płynącą z Ewangelii oraz karmiącego się
pokarmem duchowym. Pan zawczasu napomina
swoich słuchaczy: „Uważajcie i strzeżcie się chciwości”. Zabiegajmy
więc o te bogactwa, które są zadatkiem życia wiecznego.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK
W najbliższy piątek, 5 sierpnia będziemy obchodzić pierwszy piątek
miesiąca. Msza św. o godz. 7:00 będzie sprawowana w intencji
zmarłych członków Sacret Heart Society. Zapraszamy i zachęcamy do
udziału w tej Mszy przede wszystkim członków Stowarzyszenia, ale
mile widziani są również wszyscy parafianie, którzy w Sercu Jezusa
poszukują potrzebnych łask. Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu
zakończy się Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego o godz. 15:00.
Druga kolekta w przyszłym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona na
pokrycie wyższych kosztów utrzymania i energii.

JUBILEUSZOWY ROK MIŁOSIERDZIA
"Głupcze, jeszcze tej nocy zażądają twojej duszy od ciebie".
Niezbyt miłosiernie brzmi to zdanie! W przeciwieństwie do
niektórych współczesnych bogatych ludzi, nie ma w postawie
owego człowieka w przypowieści Jezusa żadnych oznak
kłamstwa, kradzieży lub oszustwa. Bogacz zarabiał na życie
i nikogo nie krzywdził. Dlaczego Jezus nazywa go głupcem?
Po pierwsze, ze względu na jego zadufanie w sobie. Pięć razy
w dziewięciu wierszach, bogacz mówi: "Ja" coś zrobię. Bóg tu nie
rządzi tylko ja! Po drugie z powodu egoizmu. Dla nie go nie ma
Boga, nie ma bliźniego; są tylko jego plany, jego dobytek, jego
korzyści! I dlatego Jezus przestrzega przed gromadzeniem
"skarbu dla siebie," a zachęca do zbierania takiego bogactwa,
które liczy się dla Boga, czyli duchowych i cielesnych uczynków
miłosierdzia: grzeszących upominać, nieumiejętnych pouczać,
wątpiącym dobrze radzić, strapionych pocieszać, krzywdy
cierpliwie znosić, urazy chętnie darować, modlić się za żywych i
umarłych, głodnych nakarmić, spragnionych napoić, nagich
przyodziać, podróżnych w domu przyjąć, więźniów pocieszać,
chorych nawiedzać, umarłych pogrzebać.
UROCZYSTA GALA
Z radością i entuzjazmem mamy przyjemność ogłosić uroczystą
Galę, która odbędzie się Seminarium św. Jana w Brighton
w piątek, 19 sierpnia w godz. od 17:30 do 21:00 na cześć
ks. prałata James’a Moroney, rektora Seminarium Duchownego
oraz z wdzięcznością dla naszych sióstr Felicjanek za ich ofiarną
służbę w szkole św. Józefa przez 125 lat. W sumie udział w Gali
weźmie około 15 sióstr pochodzących z Webster lub kiedykolwiek
pracujących w naszej szkole. Dochód z Gali będzie przeznaczony
na budowę sali gimnastycznej.
Bilet wstępu kosztuje $250 od osoby. Organizatorzy zapewniają
transport wygodnym autokarem. Dodatkowe szczegóły można
uzyskać w biurze parafialnym.
Serdecznie zachęcamy do wzięcia udziału w tym niezwykłym
wydarzeniu, które będzie dla nas wszystkich okazją do okazania
wdzięczności niezwykłym ludziom, którzy w wyjątkowy sposób
wpisali się w nasze życie, a jednocześnie wspierając budowę tak
bardzo potrzebnej w naszej szkole sali gimnastycznej sami
możemy wpłynąć na lepszą jakość kształcenia następnych
pokoleń.
SALA GIMNASTYCZNA
Z nowym entuzjazmem i zapałem, staramy się zebrać konieczne
fundusze
na
budowę
sali
gimnastycznej.
Jesteśmy
zdeterminowani, aby wznowić budowę jeszcze tej jesieni, aby
uniknąć dodatkowych uszkodzeń istniejącej już konstrukcji.
Jesteśmy wdzięczni parafianom stale wspierających ten projekt
poprzez swoje co miesięczne ofiary. Planowana na 19 sierpnia
Gala jest również bardzo ważnym krokiem w tym kierunku.
Ponadto Executive Gym Building Committee prowadzi
rozmowy z Friends of St. Joseph School Fund w celu użycia ich
funduszy dla wsparcia budowy. Regulamin Funduszu pozwala
zarządowi na dysponowanie wszystkimi środkami, o ile będą one
wykorzystane dla dobra Szkoły św. Józefa. Zanim jednak zarząd
podejmie jakiekolwiek kroki w tym kierunku, chce zasięgnąć
opinii parafian. Stosowne formularze znajdują się w ławkach.
Prosimy o wypełnienie ich i włożenie do koszyka z kolektą.
Z radością informujemy, że na nowy rok szkolny zapisało się już
do naszej szkoły 198 uczniów, co w porównaniu liczbą 165
uczniów z zeszłego roku stanowi ogromny wzrost. Taka sytuacja
sprawia, że budowa sali gimnastycznej staje się kluczowa
w programie wychowania fizycznego i sportowego w naszej

niekorzystnej sytuacji, gdyż musza trenować w wynajętych
pomieszczeniach o niekorzystnej porze.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
Nasza Diecezja liczy na wsparcie tegorocznej zbiórki Partners
in Charity. Większość z naszych parafian złożyła już swoje ofiary.
Bóg zapłać. Do tych parafian, którzy jeszcze nie złożyli datku, zwracamy
się z gorąca prośbą o rozważenie możliwości wsparcia potrzebujących
pośród nas. Specjalne formularze są dostępne w ławkach.
ŚWIATOWE DNI MŁODZIEŻY
Światowe Dzień Młodzieży oficjalnie rozpoczęły się we wtorkowy
wieczór z uroczystej Mszy św. celebrowanej przez kardynała Stanisława
Dziwisza, Arcybiskupa Krakowa. Ta piękna tradycja Światowych Dni
Młodzieży został rozpoczęta przez Jana Pawła II w Rzymie i odbywa się
nieprzerwanie po dziś dzień co trzy lata.
Podczas Mszy otwarcia, kardynał Dziwisz podkreślił znaczenie dzielenia
się wiarą. Wielu młodych ludzi z różnych krajów płaci wysoką cenę za
praktykowanie swojej wiary, która powinna być dzielona z innymi.
Przypomniał też zebranym, że przeżywamy "Rok Miłosierdzia", który
nierozerwalnie łączy się z Janem Pawłem II, Siostrą Faustyną
i Sanktuarium Miłosierdzia Bożego znajdującym się w Krakowie. Dodał,
że właśnie w tym miejscu należy rozniecać iskrę miłosierdzia, która zapali
świat. Punktem kulminacyjnym tych kilku dni jest uroczysta Msza
odprawiona w niedzielę, 31 lipca przez papieża Franciszka dla około
1,5 mln pielgrzymów.
Prosimy również pamiętać o modlitwie za wszystkich pielgrzymów
z naszej diecezji, którzy wraz z naszym ks. biskupem Robertem, biorą
udział w tym wyjątkowym wydarzeniu.
ŚWIĘTOWANIE NIEDZIELI
Centralnym, najważniejszym punktem dnia świątecznego, a zatem
również każdej niedzieli, jest Eucharystia. Uczestnictwo w niedzielnej
Eucharystii jest dla nas okazją do dziękczynienia za cały poprzedni tydzień
oraz umocnieniem na kolejne nadchodzące dni. Stajemy się wtedy także
umocnieniem dla innych, świadczymy o naszej przynależności
do Chrystusa. Doświadczamy wraz z braćmi i siostrami żywej obecności
Zmartwychwstałego wśród nas, budujemy wspólnotę, łączymy się
z Kościołem na całym świecie, jednomyślnie wznosząc głos do jedynego
Boga.
Ważne jest, byśmy do niedzielnej Mszy świętej dobrze się przygotowali.
Odświętny, godny strój to tylko zewnętrzny wyraz tego, jak ważnym
wydarzeniem dla nas jest niedzielna Eucharystia. Przygotowani
powinniśmy być jednak przede wszystkim wewnątrz. Otwartość i czystość
serca to najpiękniejszy prezent, jaki możemy przynieść Bogu w dniu Jego
święta. Należy więc zadbać, aby być w stanie łaski uświęcającej oraz
przygotować się osobiście na spotkanie z Jezusem, np. przez modlitwę
osobistą przed Mszą św., rozważanie czytań liturgicznych z danej niedzieli
czy lekturę innych tekstów religijnych powiązanych z okresem
liturgicznym, który przeżywamy.
Pamiętajmy, że to Chrystus jest Panem wszystkiego, także czasu!
Ustanawiając niedzielę dniem odpoczynku zwraca naszą uwagę na to, że
człowiek potrzebuje wytchnienia, zatrzymania się, zastanowienia nad
sensem życia i swoich codziennych zajęć. Czas poświęcony Chrystusowi
nigdy nie jest czasem straconym! Świętować dzień Pański mamy wraz
z bliskimi dla nas ludźmi: rodziną, przyjaciółmi, znajomymi… To czas,
gdy wychodzimy do drugiego człowieka, poświęcamy mu swój wolny
czas, rozmawiamy, dzielimy się doświadczeniami i przeżyciami, o co dość
trudno w ciągu tygodnia, gdy mijamy się zajęci własnymi sprawami.
Spokojna rozmowa i wspólnie spędzony czas budują nasze wzajemne
relacje, są wyrazem miłości, ukazują prawdziwe oblicze człowieka,
umacniają atmosferę wzajemnej życzliwości.
