Coppa Agostoni: Paterski in Top15
Maciej Paterski (CCC Polsat Polkowice) finished in 13th place the second race of the Trittico
Lombardia, Coppa Ugo Agostoni. Niccolo Bonifazio from Lampre – Merida took the win.
This year it was 68th edition of the Italian race, which honors Ugo Agostoni, legendary cyclist from
Lissone, where the event is held. The total distance to cover was 199,6 kilometers. After the initial,
three 29-kilometer laps around Lissone in flat terrain, the riders headed towards four short, but
steep hills in Ello, Colle Brianza, Gagliano and Lissolo. The race ended with three short circuits in
the city. According to the organizers that is the hardest race of the Trittico Lombardia.
After lively beginning the 9-man group was established in the front with Simone Velasco (Włochy),
Andrea Zordan (Androni Venezuela), Giorgio Cecchinel (Neri Sottoli), Andrea Piechele (Bardiani
CSF), Frekalsi Debesay (MTN Qhubeka), Danilo Napolitano (Wanty Gobert Group), Ricardo Pichetta
(Team Idea), Gianluca Leonardi (Area Zero) and Takashi Miyazawa (Vini Fantini Nippo De Rosa).
When they finished third initial lap, their advantage was 4 minutes. The peleton never lost control of
the situation and reeled the escapees in in the more hilly part of the course.
On the hardest climb to Gagliano, Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat Polkowice) broke clear with Diego
Rosa (Androni Giocattoli – Venezuela). Later on another five riders joined them and together they
were building up their lead over shredded bunch. The leading “7” maintained the gap until the laps
in Lissolo. Lampre-Merida did most of the work to catch the escapees and set up high pace in the
final kilometers.
The Italian team led out his man, Niccolo Bonifazio who claimed the victory. He outsprinted Grega
Bole (Vini Fantini Nippo) and Simone Ponzi (Neri Sottoli). Maciej Paterski (CCC Polsat Polkowice)
came in in 13th place – It was really hard race, with extremely fast first part of racing and difficult
climbing after 100km mark. On the final lap I tried to attack but it turned out that my move was
made to soon – said Paterski afterwards.
Only 62 riders among 200 who started the race, arrived to the finish.

Coppa Bernocci: Active Marycz made the
breakaway of the day
Jaroslaw Marycz got into the breakaway of the day at the GP Banca di Legnano – Coppa Bernocchi
and eventually finished in 21st place. Elia Viviani (Cannondale) claimed the win.
Coppa Bernocchi is the first race of Trittico Lombardia. It’s also one of the oldest cycling events in
Italy, since this year it was the 96th edition. The start and finish was placed in the same town of
Legnano. That was the beginning and the end of the 16-kilometer, hilly lap, with one climb in
Morazzone. The riders had to covered it 7 times (in total 190km).
The greatest cyclists took part in the Italian race, such as Ivan Basso, Peter Sagan or Tour de France
winner, Vincenzo Nibali. CCC Polsat Polkowice was represented by Davide Rebellin, Bartlomiej
Matysiak, Jaroslaw Marycz, Nikolay Mihaylov, Maciej Paterski, Marek Rutkiewicz, Branislau
Samoilau and Mateusz Taciak.
After very lively first 50 kilometers finally the breakaway of the day was established. One of the
escapees was Jaroslaw Marycz – Many riders tried to break clear and it took a while to form the
leading group – he said afterwards. – Three riders attacked at the beginning – Caleb Ewan
(Australia), Juan Pablo Valencja (Kolumbia) and Kenny De Ketele (Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise).
Soon after I counter attacked and tried to bridge the gap. I joined Belgian, who’d fallen back from
the Australian-Colombian duo and together we managed to get to the front of the race.
We gained around 6-minute advantage and we were not reeled in until the last lap. This is when I
had some small technical difficulties and I got dropped from the break. Few minutes later we got
caught by the 20-man group with the favorites – Nibali, Sagan, Viviani, Ponzi and Pozzato. I was able
to maintain their pace and I arrived to the finish with them.
In the final part of the race the series of attacks occurred but no one’s acceleration was strong
enough to leave everyone behind. It came down to a 20-man group sprint. Elia Viviani proved to be
the best sprinter in that field and took the win. He outsprinted Filippo Pozzato (Lampre-Merida) and
Simone Ponzi (Neri Sottoli).
Marycz crossed the line in 21th place, 6 seconds behind the winner.
