NOTES AND EVENTS
CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE
Every year the Catholic Charities of Chicago has a toy drive to provide
local children with gifts during the Holiday Season. Last year over
8,000 children received unwrapped, new toys to make
the Holiday Season special.

This year our Parish would like to participate in this drive to bring joy to
disadvantaged children and their families.
Here is how you can help:
We will be collecting toys through December 13, 2010. You can drop
them off at the Parish Office, in the special box in the church or give
them to an usher at Mass. The toys must be new, unwrapped and in their
original packaging for safety reason.
We will donate half of the toys to the Catholic Charities and keep the
other half for families in our Parish.
We need toys to learn from, play with or cuddle, but no dangerous
games or toys that resemble weapons.
Please consider donating a toy.
Taize Prayer Group
Join us Sunday January 2nd for our next Taize Prayer Group!
Taize Prayer Group at St. Hedwig invites young adults to meet, pray, sing and
talk every first Sunday of the month from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The doors of the church open at 6:30 pm.
Please come to experience the power and peace of meditative prayer, to
hear interesting talks, to meet new friends and to enjoy the time we spend
together.

My Dear Parishioners: Praise Be Jesus Christ!!
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I would like to take this opportunity to express my
gratitude to all the blessings that St Hedwig Parish has received since the time I arrived here.
Thank you for all your patience and understanding during the time of rebuilding and renovating
our church. The restoration of the church was not an easy job. So much time, effort, and sleepless
nights were spent by all of you which served and remained to be my inspiration to work harder
for our parish.
Thank you for your continued financial support in spite of the economic hardship. God is
so good that the parish is able to improve and renovate its facilities like the convent, rectory,
and church premises.
Most of all, thank you for your prayers and your community participations in improving
our Spiritual, Pastoral and Religious services in our parish. We have improved our CCD
(Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) classes for children and RCIA ( Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults ). We have spiritual services and projects designed for children, young adults and adults in
our neighborhood. We now have program in place which are opportunities to meet the many
faces of our neighbors and families in our community.
St Hedwig Parish is gifted with many parishioners who understand and respect the
diversity of this community. As a community of faith, we are called to live the Gospel message.
With the help of our Parish Pastoral Council, I am defining my vision for our parish to put up a
solid Pastoral Program. I will start this 3-year Project on the second week of Advent Season –
Dec. 8, 2010 - the feast day of Immaculate Conception.
We will concentrate on the basic Catholic Doctrine. During the first year, 2011, I plan to
focus on the Ten Commandments. On the second year, 2012, I plan to concentrate on the Seven
Sacraments and finally on the third, 2012, the New Evangelization.
As we continue to work together, I would like to quote one of my favorite messages, “Do not focus
your attention at the top of the mountain, focus and enjoy the steps as you climb to the top”.
Again, my sincerest thanks and rest assured of my prayers for all of you. Happy Thanksgiving!

FOCUS ON THE WORD
Ist SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Advent, with its very name, “the coming”, is a yearly season of the Church’s life that
invites us to explore once again the important virtue of patience accompanied by prayer. For the
faithful there is not a simple “waiting” but rather an active anticipation by prayer, penance and
almsgiving. The Lord engages with the world through His Body to work out the salvation of all
creation. The Holy Spirit, our companion on the way of faith, is the Divine person who “inspires”
us to return again and again to the truth that salvation is not something for which we passively
wait in this world, but a reality that has begun already for us in the Church.
The Holy Spirit, the holy “animator”, or soul of, and divine Indweller of Jesus’ Body the
Church, guarantees for us that we live now already the very life and mysteries of the Savior. This
takes place liturgically, in the living proclamation of the Word in our liturgy.
The Word of God is “living and active” and nowhere more so than when it is proclaimed in
the most “living” way at holy Mass. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church makes real and
effective, once again, the historical events of salvation history. The Advent mysteries of the Lord’s
incarnation are thus re-presented so that we can take a living and active part in them. The preparation for His coming with this season no less:
“When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior's first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming. How important for us is His
coming? No less important for us then the preparation for the “advent” of so great a divine Savior. It is the reasonableness of this truth that is our privilege to live and teach the world in Advent. We are thus as a leaven so that all of society and every human person may “rise” with the
Bread of Life who really and truly became present among us and ever comes among us again the
His Eucharist as the Risen One. He became incarnate to become Sacrifice. He is present among us
to save us.
Our Advent violet is a calling to joy for the world, for one must truly prepare for what one
hopes to truly receive. The Church lives as a sign of hope in this Advent season once again in the
midst of a world in need of redemption. Let us go forth to celebrate the real joy that Advent
brings, the authentic coming of the Lord and Savior, as one who will live in our hearts and minds
by grace upon His coming at Christmas. If we would do that, we must prepare the way. "Prepare
the way of the Lord, make straight His paths!"

Al celebrar Acción de Gracias, me
gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para
expresar mi gratitud a todas las
bendiciones que la parroquia de Santa
Eduviges a ha recibido desde el momento en
que llegué aquí.
Gracias por toda su paciencia y
comprensión durante el tiempo de la
reconstrucción y renovación de nuestra iglesia.
La restauración de la iglesia no era un trabajo
fácil. Tanto tiempo, esfuerzo y noches sin
dormir fueron gastados por todos ustedes que
sirvió y se mantuvo a ser mi inspiración para
trabajar más duro para nuestra parroquia
Gracias por su continuo apoyo financiero
a pesar de las dificultades económicas. Dios es
tan bueno que la parroquia es capaz de
mejorar y renovar sus instalaciones, como el
convento, casa parroquial, y los locales de la
iglesia.
Por encima de todo, gracias por sus
oraciones y su participación en la mejora de
nuestra comunidad espiritual, pastoral y
servicios religiosos en nuestra parroquia.
Hemos mejorado nuestra CCD (Cofradía de la
Doctrina Cristiana), clases para niños y RICA
(Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos).
Tenemos servicios espirituales y proyectos
diseñados para niños, jóvenes y adultos en
nuestro vecindario. Ahora tenemos el
programa en marcha que es la oportunidad
de conocer los rostros de muchos de nuestros
vecinos y familias de nuestra comunidad. La
Parroquia de Santa Eduviges está dotada de
muchos feligreses que entienden y respetan la
diversidad de esta comunidad. Como
comunidad de fe, estamos llamados a vivir el
mensaje del Evangelio
Con la ayuda de nuestro Consejo Pastoral
Parroquial, Estoy definiendo mi visión para
nuestra parroquia para poner un Programa de
Pastoral sólido. Voy a empezar este proyecto
de 3 años en la segunda semana de Adviento
- 08 de diciembre del 2010 - el día de la
fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción.
Nos concentraremos en la base Doctrina
Católica. Durante el primer año de 2011,
tengo la intención de centrarme en los Diez
Mandamientos. En el segundo año de 2012,
tengo la intención de concentrarse en los siete
sacramentos y, finalmente, en la de 2012 en
tercer lugar, la Nueva Evangelización. A
medida que continuamos trabajando juntos,
quiero citar a uno de mis mensajes favoritos,
"No concentre su atención en la parte superior
de la montaña, enfóquese y disfrute los pasos
que hay para subir a la "parte superior.
Una vez más, mi más sincero
agradecimiento y tengan la seguridad de mis
oraciones por todos ustedes. Feliz Acción de
Gracias!

I Niedziela Adwentu
Dobrze, że w naszym życiu jest czas Adwentu. Choć jest to głęboki czas liturgiczny,
który powinien odbić się szerokim echem w naszym życiu codziennym, to wciąż jego prawdy mało
są widoczne w naszej codzienności. Można zauważyć, że współczesny świat, zwłaszcza poprzez
konsumpcję, pomija ten czas. Już na początku Adwentu pojawiają się w sklepach: choinki, ozdoby
choinkowe, wspaniałe prezenty itd.
Jednak Pan Bóg nieustannie, delikatnie zwraca nam uwagę na ten czas Adwentu i na
to, jak on powinien być przez nas przeżyty. Jakby Pan miał przekonanie, że może w tym roku
wielu z nas zrobi duży krok naprzód i odkryje prawdziwą wartość tego czasu. To delikatne i
uporczywe przekonywanie można odnaleźć w słowach dzisiejszego pierwszego czytania: „Oto
nadchodzą dni, kiedy wypełnię pomyślną zapowiedź, jaką obwieściłem domowi izraelskiemu i domowi judzkiemu”. My jesteśmy spadkobiercami zapowiedzi obwieszczonej domowi izraelskiemu i
domowi judzkiemu. Głównym tematem tej zapowiedzi jest przyjście na świat Zbawiciela. Choć
historycznie ten fakt już się dokonał, to jeszcze wiele brakuje, aby każdy z nas głęboko tę
prawdę zrozumiał i umiał ją wprowadzić we własne życie. Więc w Bogu, kolejny raz, jest nadzieja, że może właśnie ten Adwent, stanie się dla wielu z nas pomyślnym wypełnieniem zapowiedzi,
czyli głębokim zrozumieniem, przeżyciem i przygotowaniem się na czas Narodzin Jezusa Chrystusa i Jego powtórne przyjście.
Adwentowy czas, to wspaniała liturgia Rorat z lampionami, stosowne rekolekcje i postanowienia, które warto poprzedzić odbyciem Sakramentu Pojednania. Zachęcam do korzystania
z tego sakramentu w spokojniejszym momencie, a nie tylko w wyznaczonym dniu rekolekcyjnym,
bo często - stojąc w długiej kolejce - ryzykujemy, że będziemy potraktowani „mechanicznie”.
Choć ten sposób postępowania i przeżywania okresu Adwentu jest nam znany, to tak naprawdę
wiele z tych praktyk zaniedbaliśmy. I znowu św. Paweł w swoim Liście zachęca nas, abyśmy się
stali doskonalszymi, czyli wykorzystali to, co w nas jest, czego doświadczyliśmy, abyśmy budowali
na znanych już od lata praktykach. Jednak nie mogą one stać się praktykami tylko od czasu do
czasu. Nie możemy wybierać dla siebie tych jedynie, które uznajemy za „najlepsze”. Należy
odkryć doskonałość wszystkich praktyk.
Ewangelia dzisiejsza skupia się na obrazie powtórnego przyjścia Jezusa. Z wypowiedzi Jezusa wynika, że zawsze powinniśmy czuwać i być gotowi. Pan daje nam znaki, które nieustannie przypominają o Jego przyjściu, że może teraz przyjdzie. Ilekroć pojawia się Jego znak,
może się okazać, że jest to decydująca chwila.
Obrazami, jakimi posługuje się Jezus w opisaniu kolejnego Swojego przyjścia, możemy
się przerazić. Jednak, kiedy wszystko układa się najgorzej, wtedy winniśmy najmocniej ufać, bo
gdy noc jest najciemniejsza, wówczas nagle pojawia się światło. Kiedy dosięgnęliśmy dna rozpaczy, wówczas wszystko się odwraca i jest szansa na nowe życie. To co dotyczy jednego
człowieka, dotyczy też świata jako całości. Gdy wszystko wydaje się być stracone, kiedy świat
rzeczywiście się wali, wówczas jest ratowany.
Rozpoczyna się czas Adwentu, który może nauczyć nas dobrego i mądrego wpatrywania się w kolejne przyjścia Jezusa, to w Betlejem i to przyjście ostateczne. Otwórzmy swoje oczy i
serca, by nic z tego czasu nam nie umknęło.
