All Souls Day is Sunday, November 2nd. All registered
parishioners have received an envelope in their package.
Kindly have the envelopes, with the names of your loved
ones, into the church by Friday, October 31st. This will give
us time to place them on the altar for All Souls Day. Extra
envelopes are available at the doors of the church.

The sick members of our community are invited to a
parish celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick on Sunday, October 19th, at a 3:00PM Mass,
followed by a social at St. Joseph Center. The entrance
from Newkirk Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible,
will be open for the occasion.
Parishioners who wish to pray with and for the sick,
but are not necessarily in need of the Sacrament, are also
encouraged to attend the Eucharist.

CONCERT AT OUR LADY OF REFUGE CHURCH
Our Lady of Refuge will offer a concert on Friday,
November 21st, at 7:30PM. This concert, “The Composer
Improvises”, will feature Thierry Escaich, Organist of
Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, Paris, and Professor at the Paris

IRISH AMERICAN PARADE COMMITTEE
The Irish American Parade Committee will hold its
Annual Parade Memorial Mass on Sunday, November
9th, at 12:00Noon, at Holy Name Church, 245 Prospect
Park West. The Mass will be followed by refreshments
and an introduction of the 2015 Parade Honorees in Shepherd’s Hall. This will commemorate 40 years of the
Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Parade, which will be held 3rd
Sunday, March 2015, in Park Slope.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading - The LORD said to Cyrus, his anointed, “I
am the LORD, there is no other”, Isaiah 45:1,4-6
Psalm - Give the Lord glory and honor (Psalm 96).
Second Reading - Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the
church of the Thessalonians: We thank God always for all
of you (1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b).
Gospel - Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God
what is God’s (Matthew 22:15-21).
IN GOD ALONE
Isaiah speaks to us today of Cyrus, King of Persia,
anointed by the Lord. God calls Cyrus by name and leads
him in service to the Israelites. In this passage we hear
that it is the Lord who gives Cyrus his title, who arms him
against his enemies, and who opens doors and unbars
gates before him. And God does all of this so that the
people will know that “I am the LORD,” and that “there is
none besides me” (Isaiah 45:6).
Paul opens his letter with essentially the same notion that in God alone we find our grace and peace. Paul also
gives thanks to God on our behalf, calling to mind our
work of faith, hope, and love. And in the familiar Gospel
reading, Jesus tells the Pharisees to give to Caesar what is
Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.

FEAST OF FAITH
Only Say the Word
The bread is broken, the banquet is prepared, and now
we are invited to the feast. Once more the priest holds the
host, now broken, for us to see, and invites us to behold
the one “who takes away the sins of the world.” Truly
blessed and happy are those invited to this meal, which is
a foretaste of the heavenly banquet, the supper of the
Lamb (Revelation 19:19). We respond to this invitation
with a prayer to the Lord: we acknowledge that we are not
worthy, but at the same time we are confident that the
One who comes to us can heal us, body and soul. This
prayer echoes the story of the centurion in Luke’s Gospel.
The centurion, a Gentile, asks healing for his servant, but
does not consider himself worthy to have Jesus come
under his roof - he believes that Jesus can heal his servant
with a word, without even seeing him. Jesus is amazed at
his faith. It is the same for us. We believe that Jesus
speaks to us, comes to us, dwells with us, even though we
neither hear his voice nor see his face.

Faryzeusze odeszli i naradzali się, jak by podchwycić
Go w mowie. Posłali więc do Niego swych uczniów
razem ze zwolennikami Heroda, aby Mu powiedzieli:

Bożej w prawdzie nauczasz. Na nikim Ci też nie zależy,
bo nie oglądasz się na osobę ludzką. Powiedz nam więc,

nie? Jezus przejrzał ich przewrotność i rzekł: Czemu
Mnie wystawiacie na próbę, obłudnicy? Pokażcie Mi
monetę podatkową! Przynieśli Mu denara. On ich zapytał:
Czyj jest ten obraz i napis? Odpowiedzieli: Cezara.
Wówczas rzekł do nich: Oddajcie więc Cezarowi to, co
należy do Cezara, a Bogu to, co należy do Boga.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
„Oddajcie (...) Cezarowi to, co należy do Cezara, a
Bogu to, co należy do Boga” – usłyszymy w Ewangelii.
Czy to znaczy, że należy podzielić rzeczywistość na
ludzką i boską? Z jednej strony ludzkie „powinności”:
uczciwość
obywatelska,
patriotyzm,
rzetelność,
pracowitość, z drugiej modlitwa, praktyki religijne, dobre
uczynki... Tak naprawdę tym, co mamy najcenniejszego i
zarazem boskiego w nas, jest nasz rozum i wola. To one
stanowią o naszym podobieństwie do Boga i uzdalniają
nas do poznania i miłowania Go, co znajduje wyraz w
pełnieniu Jego woli. Oddajmy mu je, a wtedy stopniowo
wszystko w naszym życiu stanie się Boże.

SÓLO EN DIOS
Isaías nos habla hoy de Ciro, el rey de Persia, ungido
del Señor. Dios llama a Ciro por su nombre y lo conduce
a servir a los israelitas. En este pasaje oímos que es el
Señor quien le da a Ciro su título, quien lo arma contra
sus enemigos, y quien abre los portones, y no deja nada
trancado ante él. Y Dios hace todo esto para que su
pueblo llegue a saber que “yo soy el SEÑOR,” y que “no
hay otro” (Isaías 45:6).
Pablo abre su carta esencialmente con la misma
noción, que sólo en Dios podemos hallar gracia y paz.
Pablo también da gracias a Dios en nuestro nombre,
recordando nuestro trabajo fatigoso de fe, esperanza y
amor. Y en la familiar lectura del Evangelio, Jesús dice a
los fariseos que den al César lo que es del César y a Dios
lo que es de Dios.

SOBRES PARA EL DIA DE LOS DIFUNTOS (ALMAS)
Día de los Difuntos es domingo, 2 de noviembre.
Todos los feligreses registrados han recibido un sobre en
su paquete. Sírvase tener los sobres, con los nombres de
sus seres queridos, en la iglesia no más tarde de 31 de
octubre. Esto nos dará tiempo para colocarlos en el altar
