Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele,
From the moment described in today’s Gospel,
Jesus’ mission on earth has been confirmed, recognized
and accepted by man. For this act of humanity performed
by Simon the Apostle, he is henceforth called by Jesus
“Peter - Rock.” The Lord God, in dealing with man, with
his free will and judgment, does not want to force him,
does not want to do anything without us or beyond us.
God waits for our consent, for our cooperation, and the
help of man.
Od momentu opisanego w dzisiejszej ewangelii
misja Jezusa na ziemi została oficjalnie
potwierdzona, uznana i przyjęta przez człowieka.
W imieniu ludzkości aktu tego dokonał Szymon Apostoł,
odtąd nazwany przez Jezusa Piotrem – Opoką. Pan Bóg
licząc się z człowiekiem, z jego wolnością i zdaniem, nie
chce mu niczego narzucać na siłę, nie chce niczego robić
bez nas albo poza nami. Bóg czeka na naszą zgodę, na
współpracę i pomoc człowieka.
Then follows Jesus’ important question - “Who do you
say that I am?” And later such joy, frankly, Jesus’ enthusiasm when He heard Simon’s response: “You are the
Messiah, the Son of the living God!” This is a response of
faith. This was not born of human calculation and expectation, but of trust in God, convinced of His love, faithful
to His promises, and of the union of Jesus with God. Jesus
needed precisely such a faith,. Only such a faith could be
the foundation of the life of the Church.
Wtedy właśnie następuje to ważne Jezusowe
pytanie – „Za kogo wy Mnie uważacie?” A potem taka
radość, wręcz entuzjazm Jezusa, gdy usłyszał odpowiedź
Szymona: „Ty jesteś Mesjasz, Syn Boga żywego!” To jest
odpowiedź wiary. To nie ludzkie kalkulacje i oczekiwania
ją zrodziły, lecz zaufanie do Boga, przeświadczenie
o Jego miłości, wierności obietnicom i o związku Jezusa
z Bogiem. Właśnie taka wiara była Jezusowi potrzebna.
Dopiero taka wiara może być podstawą życia Kościoła.
In fact, on this faith, the faith of St. Peter, Jesus laid the
foundation of the Church. Until today, the Church relies
on this confession and often refers to it. Particularly, it appears often in the history of the people who, on the subject of Jesus, wondered about the various and most unusual theories. Still, the Church prefers Peter’s response
because it alone was confirmed by Jesus. At the same
time, Jesus raised Peter to the rank of foundation of the
Church. Without Peter and his faith, there is no Church.
Jesus, Himself, wanted this.
I faktycznie: tę wiarę, wiarę św. Piotra, uczynił
Jezus fundamentem Kościoła. Kościół po dziś dzień
polega na tym wyznaniu i wciąż do niego się odwołuje.
Zwłaszcza, że niejednokrotnie zjawiali się w historii
ludzie, którzy na temat Jezusa snuli najróżniejsze
i najdziwaczniejsze teorie. Kościół jednak woli
odpowiedź Piotra, bo tylko ona została potwierdzona
przez Jezusa. Zarazem Jezus wyniósł Piotra do rangi
fundamentu Kościoła. Bez Piotra i jego wiary nie ma
Kościoła. Sam Jezus tak chciał.
And He wanted even more: that our modern faith would
grow out of Peter’s faith, but in a way that is living and
authentic. It is not enough to merely reflect on Peter’s
confession. We do this, after all, during every Mass; but
sometimes mechanically and without thought. We must
accept Peter’s testimony, but also recognize that this same
God will be the source and giver of our faith. This must
be our own decision, flowing from a living experience of
God; from prayer, interior ties with Him, and not just a
routine repetition of what others think about Jesus. The
faith of our fathers must be for us a guide, but it cannot
supply nor replace our personal faith. Because God does
not have grandchildren - He has only children. Children
who believe in Him and trust in Him without boundaries.
Do we count ourselves among them?
I chciał jeszcze więcej: żeby nasza współczesna
wiara wyrastała z wiary Piotra, ale w sposób żywy
i autentyczny. Nie wystarczy zatem odwołać się tylko do
Piotrowego wyznania – czynimy to wszak w czasie
każdej mszy, ale jak mechanicznie i bezmyślnie nieraz!
Musimy przyjąć świadectwo Piotrowe, zdając sobie
jednak sprawę, że to sam Bóg będzie Źródłem i Dawcą
naszej wiary. To musi być nasza osobista decyzja,
wypływająca z żywego doświadczenia Boga, z modlitwy,
z wewnętrznej więzi z Nim, a nie tylko rutynowe
powtarzanie, co inni sądzą o Jezusie. Wiara ojców musi
być co prawda dla nas wskazówką, ale nie może
wyręczyć i zastąpić naszej osobistej wiary. Albowiem
Bóg nie ma wnuków – ma tylko dzieci. Dzieci które
w Niego wierzą i ufają Mu bezgranicznie. Czy zaliczam
się do nich?

day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25th
and Friday, August 26th will also be half days with
dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Please note that there will be no
lunch and no Before and After Care on these 3 days.
Our Pre-K “Get Acquainted Open House” is on Thursday,
August 23rd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the elementary
grade building (along Roscoe).

National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill
St. Ladislaus’ Polish Club invites
all to join in a pilgrimage under the

the National Shrine of Mary Help of
Christians at Holy Hill in Wisconsin
on Sunday, August 28th.
Donation of $55 includes transportation and lunch following
Mass. The bus will leave from our grounds at 7 a.m. on
August 28th and return at approximately 7 p.m. Our

Holy Hill is located in southeast Wisconsin, on the highest
elevation in that part of the state. Situated on 435 acres of
rural countryside, it provides the visitor with the opportunity
for spiritual enrichment. As early as 1903, Holy Hill was
declared a Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians. In 2006,
the Shrine was raised to the status of Minor Basilica. But
as far back as the 1700s and perhaps earlier, the American
Indians came to Holy Hill because they considered it a
sacred place.
Illinois Right to Life Committee (IRLC) sponsors an
annual fun-raising event, and this year should be a great
one. Bring your entire family for a day of fun with other
Pro-Life families at Pumpkin Fest 2011 on Siegel’s farm,
off I-55 in Lockport.
Siegel’s Pumpkin Farm offers fun for all ages with their
cornfield mazes, hayrack ides, haunted barn, wagon train
ride, petting zoo, kiddie train, and much more. Plan to
select the right pumpkins for your family from the U-Pick
Pumpkin Field.
Pro-Life Weekend at Pumpkin Fest 2011 takes place on
Saturday, October 1st and Sunday, October 2nd. Siegel’s
Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days and is
located at 17250 South Weber Road in Lockport, IL.
Ticket prices are $14 each. Prepaid tickets purchased
from IRLC will be good for either Saturday or Sunday,
October 1 or 2. Children under 3 years are admitted Free.

TRUST
Keys hold great significance for those who carry them.
They represent the trust and authority of the owner when
given to another person. We may give our house key to a
trusted friend to take care of our matters while we are
away. We may give keys to someone responsible for
maintaining or working in a particular building. Keys to
vehicles are given to people who have proven themselves
responsible drivers.
The readings today focus on this kind of trust—the trust
that conveys authority and responsibility. In the first reading,
the symbol is specifically that of a key; but the second
reading and the Gospel also speak of trust and leadership
as they refer to the earthly church that Jesus established.

repaid?" - Romans 11:35
St. Paul reminds us of a central fact of stewardship.
We cannot give the Lord anything, because God
already owns it all. God made everything. All that
we can do is return a portion of God's many gifts
back to Him. The good steward does this with gratitude.

Parish Information:
The icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa has
been intimately associated with Poland for the
past six hundred years. Its history prior to its
arrival in Poland is shrouded in numerous legends
which trace the icon's origin to St. Luke who
painted it on a cypress table top from the
house of the Holy Family.

Masses :
The foundation of the Monastery and Shrine in Czestochowa
began with a small wooden church. Subsequent development
(1632-48) led to the construction of the present day basilica and
defense wall which surrounds the sacred buildings. Under the
heroic leadership of the Prior of the Monastery, Father
Augustine Kordecki, the Shrine withstood the attacks of the
Swedish Invasion of 1655. This great victory proved to be a
tremendous boost to the morale of the entire Polish nation.
As a result, King Jan Casimir, in 1656, made a solemn vow
proclaiming the Mother of God to be the "Queen of the Polish
Crown" and the Shrine of Jasna Gora to be the "Mount of Victory"
and a spiritual capital for Poland.
During the years of Poland's partition (1772-1918) the Shrine of
Jasna Gora became a vibrant link for the Polish people with
their homeland. The holy painting enshrined at Czestochowa
beamed as a lighthouse of hope during the painful years of
national hardships and defeats.
Following the restoration of national independence in 1918,
pilgrimages to the Polish Shrine grew in number and size. As
World War II ended, a nation devastated by the scourges of war
drew new strength and courage from the Shrine to rebuild and
recover from the war. Today the Shrine of Czestochowa in Poland
attracts millions of worshipers and tourists who come to honor
the miraculous image of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

Ważny jest fakt ustanowienia w 1904 r. przez Stolicę
