Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele!
Dear Parishioners and Friends!
Najbliższy tydzień w kalendarzu liturgicznym
skoncentruje nas na relacjach między rodzicami a
dziećmi. W poniedziałek uczcimy Maryję jako
Królową i Matkę, w środę apostoła Bartłomieja,
w piątek Matkę Bożą Częstochowską, zaś w sobotę św. Monikę, cierpliwą matkę niesfornego
i opornego na wiarę w Boga św. Agustyna. Ktoś
mógłby zapytać jak św. Bartłomiej pasuje tu w kluczu
rodzicielskim, skoro był bezdzietnym Apostołem?
Otóż imię Bartłomiej po hebrajsku oznacza "syn
oracza, rolnika". Zajęcie ojca Bartłomieja było tak
charakterystyczne, że syn znany był przez pryzmat
tego kim był jego ojciec. O Jezusie zresztą też znajomi
mówili: „czyż nie jest On synem cieśli?” (Mt 13,55)
Next week in the liturgical calendar we will focus
on the relationship between parents and children. On Monday, we honor Mary as Queen and
Mother, on Wednesday Apostle Bartholomew, on
Friday, Our Lady of Czestochowa, and on Saturday St. Monica, patient mother of the unruly and resistant to faith in God St. Augustine. One might ask
how St. Bartholomew fits here in the parent theme,
since he was childless Apostle. Well Bartholomew in
Hebrew means "son of a plowman, farmer.
"Bartholomew's father's occupation was so distinctive
that the son was known through the prism of who his
father was. Even when referring to Jesus, his friends
said, "is he not the carpenter's son?" (Mt 13,55)
Mój tato od zawsze był kierowcą i mnie tak często
kojarzono: „syn Władka, kierowcy z PKS-u”. Kiedy
zdawałem egzaminy do liceum to trafiłem na grono
ludzi z „wyższych klas” - dzieci lekarzy, nauczycieli,
dyrektorów itp. Poczułem się nieswojo w tym gronie
i zapytałem taty co mam o nim mówić. On odparł:
"nie mów więc, że jestem kierowcą, ale że pracuje na
stanowisku kierowniczym w PKS-ie". Poczucie humoru połączone z sumiennością i pasją do jego pracy
sprawiło, że nie tylko ja, ale i moi koledzy do dziś z
ogromnym sentymentem wspominamy dojazdy do
szkoły tzw. Mazurtransem, nazywając tak autobus
mego taty.
My dad has always been a driver and I was often
thought of as "Wladek's son, a bus driver." When I
was taking high school exams, I landed among a
group of people from a more "elite class" - the children of doctors, teachers, etc. I felt uncomfortable in
this group, and I asked my dad what I should say
about him. He said, "do not say I'm a driver, but that I
work in a managerial position in the bus company." A
sense of humor combined with diligence and passion
for his work meant that not only I, but my friends too
still remember with commuting to school with great
fondness.
Zachęcam więc, by w tym tygodniu spojrzeć na nasze
relacje z rodzicami bądź z dziećmi. Czyim synem/
córką jestem? Dramatem wielu rodzin jest to, że
dziecko niekiedy niesie piętno słabości rodziców, że
zamiast być dzieckiem krawcowej, mechanika,
pielęgniarki, budowlańca, ekspedientki, sprzątaczki,
dziecko zostaje w środowisku określane dzieckiem
alkoholika, kryminalisty, oszusta itd? Jakim jesteś
rodzicem? Do czego o Tobie może przyznać się twoje
dziecko?
Podziękuj swoim rodzicom za pracę którą wykonują,
bądź wykonywali….

So this week I invite you to look at your relationships
with your parents or children. Whose son / daughter
am I? The drama of many families is that the child
sometimes carries a stigma of weakness from their
parents that instead of being the child of a seamstress,
mechanics, nurses, builder, shop assistants, cleaners,
the child is called a child of an alcoholic, criminal,
swindler, etc.? What kind of parent are you? What can
your child admit about you?
Thank your parents for the work they perform, or
have performed in the past....

Father Anthony Enyinful is a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Cape Coast in Ghana. He is currently assisting at Holy
Family Parish in Staten Island in the Archdiocese of New York.
The Archdiocese of Cape Coast is coterminous with the Central
Region of Ghana. It covers a surface area of 9,826 km² ; and has
a population of 2,201,863 (2010 Census) . Out of this population,
349,905 are Catholics, with the rest being Protestants (mainline
and Evangelical), Muslims, Members of Independent Churches
and Followers of traditional religion.
Although it is the first and the oldest ecclesiastical circumscription (Vicariate, Diocese, Archdiocese) in Ghana, the Archdiocese
of Cape Coast nevertheless is now the Metropolitan See of the
smallest Ecclesiastical Province. It has only two suffragan Dioceses (the Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi and the Diocese of Wiawso)

GARŚĆ UWAG DO CZYTAŃ NA XXI NIEDZIELĘ ZWYKŁĄ
Iz 66,18-21; Hbr 12,5-7.11-13; Łk 13,22-30
Pytanie o kryterium wyboru tych, którzy mają być zbawieni, oraz odpowiedź Jezusa stanowi osnowę dzisiejszych czytań. Już Stary Testament, którego fragment jest czytany w dzisiejszym
pierwszym czytaniu z Księgi proroka Izajasza, mówi o „niektórych ocalałych” z Izraela, którzy
ogłoszą chwałę Boga wsród innych narodów Wschodu, stając się zaczynem nowego wybrania,
ponieważ Bóg „zna ich czyny i zamysły”. Oczywiście Stary Testament mówi jeszcze w kategoriach
ziemskiego wybrania odrodzonego narodu Izraela, które jednakże jest zapowiedzią wybrania
zbawczego realizowanego przez Jezusa. A Ten każe wchodzić każdemu, kto chce być zbawionym,
przez ciasne drzwi. Nawiązanie do drzwi przywołuje wejście do mieszkania (Królestwa) Bożego,
wątek poszerzony później przez Jezusa w przypowieści o Królestwie Bożym. Chrystus zachęca do wchodzenia przez
ciasne (w przeciwieństwie do szerokich) drzwi. Jest to wyraźna wskazówka, że droga do królestwa Bożego nie jest szeroka i łatwa, że raczej trzeba się natrudzić i wykazać swoim godnym i dobrym życiem, by Je osiągnąć. I trzeba przy tym
korzystać z każdej chwili, która jeszcze jest pod ręką, dopóki żyjemy, bo w każdej chwili drzwi te mogą się zamknąć i
szansa się skończy. Właśnie taka nauka płynie z przypowieści Jezusa o Panu domu (Bożego), czyli o Bogu: „Skoro Pan
domu wstanie i drzwi zamknie, wówczas stojąc na dworze, zaczniecie kołatać do drzwi i wołać: ‘Panie otwórz nam’; lecz
On wam odpowie: ‘Nie wiem kim jesteście’. Nie pomogą wtedy żadne targowania się. Bóg po prostu odpowie zgodnie z
prawdą: „’Odstąpcie ode Mnie wszyscy dopuszczający się niesprawiedliwości’. Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów, gdy
ujrzycie Abrahama, Izaaka i Jakuba, i wszystkich proroków w królestwie Bożym, a siebie samych precz wyrzuconych”.
Miłosierdzie Boże tu nie zadziała, jeśli nie ma woli nawrócenia i dobrego życia.

Obchody1050 Rocznicy Chrztu Polski Jak podają źródła historyczne, 14 kwietnia 966 roku, Książe Mieszko I przyjął
chrzest. Tą datę przyjmuje się za powstanie Państwa Polskiego, którego częścią jesteśmy. Rząd Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej,
uchwałą Senatu RP, ustanowił rok 2016 Rokiem Uroczystych Obchodów 1050 Rocznicy Chrztu Polski, zobowiązując
wszystkich Polaków na świecie do uczczenia tej pamiętnej daty 966 roku. Polonia Amerykańska zamieszkująca Chicago i
okolicach oraz sąsiednich stanach rozpocznie główne uroczystości w dniu 28 sierpnia 2016 roku w Sanktuarium Matki
Bożej Częstochowskiej w Merrillville, Indiana. Przewidujemy, że udział w uroczystościach wezmą przedstawiciele rządu
Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, polskiego duchowieństwa, politycy amerykańscy, oraz tysiące wiernych z całych Stanów Zjednoczonych. W trakcie Mszy świętej kazanie wygłosi Jego Ekscelencja Ksiądz Biskup Józef Zawitkowski. W programie
uroczystości przewidywana jest bogata oprawa sceniczna w wykonaniu znanych aktorów, muzyków i zespołów polonijnych. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
In recent decades, attention has shifted away from headgear as a symbol of a bishop's authority to a more substantial symbol: the chair, called the cathedra. The word comes from the Latin word for a chair with armrests. It is exactly the reason
why dining room sets were marketed in this country a few years ago with only one chair with armrests, the captain's chair. In
many rectories of a certain vintage, you will see only one chair with arms at the dining table, a sign to the assisting priests of
their proper place in the constellation. For us, as with most Anglicans and some Lutherans, the cathedra is a sign of the
teaching authority of the bishop. We inherited the symbolism of the chair from Roman civil life in the fourth century. A
church that houses a cathedra is called a cathedral, and the chair may be used only by the bishop of that diocese. Priests who
preside at liturgy there must use a different presidential chair.
You may find the cathedra in its most traditional place at the head of the apse, or against a side wall as was favored in medieval times, but increasingly bishops are locating the cathedra in the midst of the assembly of the faithful. In the Cathedral of
Our Lady of the Angels, visitors will find no barrier to their trying out the cathedra, an expression of hospitality that helps
the archbishop be mindful of those whom he serves.
We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America
and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruction in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We
have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger
and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus' call to comfort the homeless and the stranger? "They shall bring all your
brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the LORD."
In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the discipline of the Lord,
which leads to peace, and to "strive to enter through the narrow gate" into the glory of God's own homeland, the reign of
God.
DISCIPLINE
As summer stretches on into fall, perhaps we have become somewhat distracted from the liturgy and the readings of Ordinary Time. The reading from Hebrews seems particularly puzzling to some. What discipline are we undergoing, and how do
we feel about it? Is it really a sign of God's love for us, or just a pain, or worse, a punishment for something? It is really the
sign of God's love for us, "for whom the Lord loves, [the Lord] disciplines." Of course, no one likes to be disciplined, but
we are told, "At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it." To be disciplined is to be taught the right way.
THE NARROW GATE
Life is difficult, and we need this preparation, for as Jesus tells his followers, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for
many . . . will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough." We need to understand that we are strangers here; we all belong in another place, another time: the reign of God. If we do not know how to follow the right road, to welcome the
stranger and help those who are in trouble, how will we find the right way ourselves? If we side with those who want to cast
out others who do not resemble themselves in order to keep themselves and their countries somehow "pure," we ourselves
will be treated in the same way, and will not enter through that narrow gate. If we consider ourselves to be better than others, we lack the humility to enter the reign of God. For as Jesus tells us, "some are last who will be first, and some are first
who will be last."
God's discipline will make us strong and kind, peaceful and good. It teaches us how to walk in the way of Jesus, and to enter
through that narrow gate.

JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Jubilee Year of Mercy and Pope Francis' ministry have renewed our understanding that the Church's heart is
open wide to all, and the heart of the gospel is God's mercy. Flooded with God's mercy, our hearts should overflow as channels bringing to wounded and weary hearts Jesus' healing mercy. For Jesus warns, our own salvation is
not guaranteed by the Liturgy of the Word ("you taught in our streets") nor by the Eucharist ("we ate and drank in
your company") (Luke 13:26). People far from that banquet, "from the east and the west and from the north and the south .
. . will recline at table in the kingdom of God" (13:29). Rather, showing mercy is key to obtaining mercy ourselves (Matthew
5:7). So we should never dare ask what "someone" asked Jesus, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" (Luke 13:23). The
crucial question is "Will I be saved?" And Jesus' answer is another question: "Have you shown mercy to everyone, freely,
gladly, no limits, no conditions, no exceptions?"
