Outline Description
Large, monochrome, stone niche.
Property Description
This statue is the work of sculptor Vincenzo de Candia. It is adjacent to the
church and convent of the Franciscan Friars Conventual. St. Francis is
portrayed as a Franciscan Conventual holding a crucifix and stands on a
pedestal with a cost of arms in low relief on it.. A very ornately carved niche
with a cross on top. It was installed with electrical lighting in the from of
bulbs. There is also a bulb in the shape of a flame at the foot of the statue. An
inscription is inscibed on the base. The niche is painted in grey hile the saint
is painted in white. This statue replaced the original one which was placed on
the site on December 2, 1745, and is now on the parvis of the Franciscan
church in St. Paul's Bay.
