For this purpose have I come.” In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes healing the sick and preaching. Yet, Jesus also makes time to be alone in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the strength to do what God wishes us to do. Be sure to find time every day to be with God. SHARING OUR BLESSINGS-February 1, 2015 Weekly $ 4901 (including $264 in loose money); (Diocesan Obligations $1430 (including $124 in loose money); Fuel $61; Weekly Budget $7000 8 lutego 2015r. SANCTUARY VOTIVE CANDLES For the week of February 8 through February 14 Blessed Mother Altar Candle I In loving memory of Claire Carlson Given by daughter Barbara West Candle II In loving memory of Claire Carlson Given by her grandchildren, Jeremy West and Katie Scott FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME February 8, 2015 [The Lord] tells the number of the stars and calls them by name. - Psalm 147:4 HEALING MINISTRY During Jesus’ ministry “he cured many who were sick with various diseases and he drove out many demons.” This is the case in today’s Gospel, Jesus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Jesus knew, however, that he couldn’t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there always would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His “purpose” was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and transforms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have said, “Woe to me if I do not preach” that good news”. This weekend’s second collection is to help defray higher utility and energy costs. Next week’s second collection is designated for The Catholic Home Missions Appeal. CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL The annual collection for the Catholic Home Missions will be held at our Basilica on the weekend of Feb., 14-15. This appeal supports dioceses in the US and its territories that lack the resources to provide basic pastoral ministry to their populations. With your support this appeal can continue to provide catechesis, lay leadership training, funding for seminarian education and other essential pastoral outreach in home mission diocese. Thank you in advance as your support will truly make a difference. WORLD DAY OF THE SICK Pope John Paul II designated February 11th as World Day of the Sick, “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering for the good of the Church. It also reminds us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying and rising, achieved the salvation of the human race”. On this day maybe you would like to visit someone in the hospital or nursing home and pray with them. Page 3 OUR LADY OF LOURDES Our Lady of Lourdes is a venerated title of the Blessed Virgin Mary invoked by Roman Catholics in honor of the Marian apparitions to have first occurred on February 11, 1858 when Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year old peasant girl, admitted to her mother that a “lady” spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle while she was gathering fire wood. Seventeen similar apparitions were reported that year, until the climax revelation of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception took place. Bernadette was later canonized as a Saint and Roman Catholics believe her apparitions have been validated by the overwhelming popularity and incidences of healings claimed to have taken place at the Lourdes water spring. Since that time Lourdes has become a focus of devotion to the Virgin Mary. POPE FRANCIS’ SECRET TO HAPPINESS We all want to be happy and in our world today there are many people telling us how to achieve that goal. Yet, many of these paths to happiness are based on false promises or superficial suggestions that offer fleeting moments of pleasure and quickly fade away. The good news is that Pope Francis, who carries an aura of joy in everything he says and does, has identified secrets that are time-tested and true. Live and let live. Too many of us jeopardize our happiness by trying to control the lives of others. We become fixated on what other people are doing and lose sight of what God is asking us to do. Jesus said it a little more bluntly when he asked the question: “Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?” (Mt 7:3) NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH On Wednesday, February 11th we will pray the Novena and Devotion to our Basilica Patron. This is a perfect time for us to evaluate our future by asking God’s blessings through the intercession of Saint Joseph. It is a time to be thankful for what we have and ask for needed graces. Members of our Parish Council will carry the statue of St. Joseph from Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary. We ask parishioners and friends to join us in this evening service. Please print your intentions legibly on the petition slips to be read during the devotions. As always we are grateful for your donations included with your petitions. Page 4 WORDS OF GRATITUDE The past week we received a super abundance of snow which created a difficult situation to clear the parish, school and cemetery properties. In this critical time we are blessed with the following individuals: Fr. Gregory, Eugene Rudnicki and Jaroslaw Bozek who worked tirelessly during the day and night to clear the parking lots. We recognize the sacrifice of Dariusz Ochocki who used his personal equipment (free of charge) to move the snow and access room for more parking. Parishioners Marek Rudnicki and Grzegorz Kuznecki also lent a helping hand. Clearing the snow off sidewalks around the church properties is arduous and requires much time. May God reward them for their kindness on behalf of our Parish! We would appreciate parishioners who have time and the proper equipment to help during future snowstorms. Parents could use this time for their service hours. FESTIVAL APPRECIATION GATHERING After several cancellations due to weather conditions the Festival Appreciation Evening will be held Mon. Feb. 16th in the school cafeteria at 6:30pm for all those who worked at the Festival 2014. We ask all chairperson to notify their workers and invite them to this gathering. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA PIĄTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA 8 lutego 2015 „Pan liczbę gwiazd oznacza, wszystkie je woła po imieniu.” (Ps 147, 4) „Jak trwoga, to do Boga” – kwitujemy czasem postawę kogoś, kto przypomina sobie o Bogu tylko w nieszczęściu. Jednak w dzisiejszej Ewangelii Jezus uzdrawia wielu chorych i opętanych, nie pytając o niczyją dojrzałość ani czystość motywacji. „On leczy złamanych na duchu i przewiązuje im rany” – śpiewamy w psalmie. NOWENNA DO ŚW.
