RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process
established by the Church for individuals to become Catholic
and receive the Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism,
Confirmation, and the Eucharist. If you wish to become
Catholic, or are a Baptized Catholic in need of making your
First Communion and/or Confirmation, please call the
Religious Education Office.
BAPTISM: On designated Sundays. Please call to make
arrangements. Parents are required to receive orientation.
MARRIAGE: Proper preparation for marriage requires one

THE GIFT OF GOD’S WORD
On this day of gifts and gift-giving, it seems appropriate
that we take a moment to reflect on the great gift of God’s
Word. Because it is creative, God’s Word always points to its
author, always calls us to respond. Scripture is God’s word
written (Scripture) and has to be spoken and has to be heard
and acted upon. Because it is powerful, God’s Word can link
the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful,
God’s Word establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God.
At the heart of God’s Word lies a tantalizing tension between
the mysterious and the mundane. In our liturgical celebration,
this unresolved tension both reveals the meaning of life for us
and calls us to respond, to act upon that meaning.
Once accepted and opened, the gift of God’s Word is a gift
that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return.
It dares us to be like the gift-giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christmas, but at every moment of life.
CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
The Jubilee Year is under the banner “Coming Home”.
Through the programs in several Diocese including New England about 300,000 people have returned to the Catholic Church
simply because they were invited. For Christmas many family
members who live in different parts of the country will be coming home. It is an occasion that we will connect the family
home with the Church, which is our second home. In the world
of aging books, ideologies, doctrinal quarrels and dangerous
cultural trends the Gospel message of the birth of Jesus is again
fascinating new and the only hope for humanity. Jesus came
into the world as a human being, in the form of a baby. He is
also coming to us under the species of bread and wine during
the Eucharistic celebration. To truly experience Christmas is
the ability to hear Jesus who speaks to our hearts and minds to
find personal time for reflection and return home.
The shepherds who heard the joyous news from the angels on
that first Christmas night and then hurried to find the infant
Savior must surely have been changed by that experience. How
has His coming changed my life?

IN MEMORIUM
The Saint Joseph Basilica Community is saddened to learn of
the passing of Albert J. Kullas of Littleton. CO. Mr. Kullas, a
graduate of St. Joseph School earned an Engineering Degree
from Worcester Polytechnic Inst. & New York Univ. and
worked for Lockheed – Martin Co. He and his wife, Joyce
were parents to Michael, Dan, Mark & James.
Mr. Kullas’ genuine interest in the well being of children
motivated him to be a supporter and benefactor in the spirit of
gratitude for his education received at Saint Joseph School. He
lived the values of his Alma Mater and when the expansion of
our school was announced, he was one of the first to step up
and inquire about how he could help.
The parish and school community are united in prayer for
Albert and will celebrate a Mass for the repose of his soul on
the second day of Christmas, Dec. 26 at 11:00am. Also the
school children, who are immediate beneficiaries of his generosity, will celebrate a Mass in his intention on First Friday , Jan.
6th at 8:30am.
May God reward Albert with joy and happiness for his philanthropic service to the St. Joseph community.
SCHOOL NEWS
30th National Migration Week - is right around the corner
and will be highlighted by a Mass at 9:30am on Sun. Jan. 8th at
our Basilica. This year’s theme is “Welcoming Christ the
Migrant”.
Catholic Schools Week (2012) - “Faith, Academics, Service” - is the national theme of this week which will begin Sun.
Jan. 29th and will conclude Sun. Feb.5th. SJS is busy preparing
for this annual event. For that week students of SJS will take
part in a service project which is to send donations to a sibling
of our school, Cpl. Matthew Gardner, who is presently stationed in Afganistan. These items will be shared with his fellow Marines.
Suggestions: cookies, crackers, hard candies, gum, nuts,
energy bars, oral hygiene and grooming items, pens, stationary,
playing cards, travel size games, etc. Thank you in advance.
Math Kangaroo Competition– will be held on Mar. 15,
2012 at 6:00pm in St. Joseph School. Competition is open to
students in all grades with a registration fee of $20. For more

GRATITUDE TO ANGEL TREE DONORS
Allow me to express my personal gratitude to those who responded to the Angel Tree requests. All the childrens’ toys,
games, books will put a smile on their faces and will occupy
them for a period of time. But I am profoundly thankful for the
tuition assistance to the needy children whose financial abilities
drastically changed negatively, due to family circumstances.
This assistance in tuition will help the children to shape their
mental capacity and form their character for life. This is the
best gift we can offer a child—a solid and Catholic education.
If there is anyone who can still offer a substantial gift for a few
needy children whose education will be determined, unfortunately by their family finances would be appreciated.
The grateful prayer of a child, personally means a lot to me.

CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP
Youth Group Sleepover Event - The Youth Group (grades
6-12) will hold its 2nd annual “Faith, Friends, Food & Fun
Sleep over Event” on Jan. 21-22 at the Immaculate Conception
Spiritual Renewal center in Putnam, CT. We will arrive at
10am Saturday and leave Sunday at 11am. We will stay in the
guesthouse, (girls on one floor, boys on another) complete with
beds, bathrooms and a large common room. Mass will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Chapel. We will enjoy
sledding (if we have snow), movie night, film the Gospel skit
for the January Youth Mass, discuss how faith and religion play
a part in your life, board games, plenty of food and just hanging
out with friends. Cost is $10 per person and that includes
lunch, dinner and breakfast. (The actual cost is $25 per person
but the Youth Group will cover the addition $15.) More info to
come as the date gets closer. Please contact Mrs. Valcour with
any questions. Parents will be needed as chaperons.
Next Youth Mass - next at St. Louis Church on Jan. 28th at
5:00pm. Pizza and refreshments to follow Mass at the Youth
Center. Choir practice the Mass will be Thurs. Jan. 26th from
7:00-8:00pm. New faces and voices always welcome.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
A temporary aluminum hand rail was installed at the front of
the Basilica for the safety of the people. This is temporary because when we complete the work in the Spring we will then be
able to determine on what style of rail will be most convenient.
Be cautious of the first step from Whitcomb St., which is not in
alignment with the other stairs.

Mrs. Anna Kudron by her kindness presented St. Joseph Basilica with two special candles purchased in Poland. These
candles are placed in our sanctuary during this Christmas Season.
May Anna and her family receive special blessings from our
Savior for her thoughtfulness and remembrance of our Basilica.
DONATIONS
We welcome Damian Henryk Jagiello, who was baptized on
Dec. 18th at St. Joseph Basilica. What a beautiful Christmas
gift to his parents Lukasz and Marta! I believe they will cherish
this gift for the rest of their lives. We are grateful for their donation of $300 given to the parish on this happy occasion.

BOŻE NARODZENIE

„…a światłość w ciemności świeci i ciemność jej nie ogarnęła.” (J 1, 5)
Noc to jest czas, w którym normalnie zamiera wszelka ludzka
aktywność. Ciemność budzi również naturalną obawę,
a w Biblii jest częstym symbolem niemocy, bezradności lub
nawet sił wrogich Bogu. I właśnie dlatego największe dzieła
Boga w historii zbawienia dokonują się w nocy: początek dzieła stworzenia, wyjście z Egiptu, narodziny Jezusa, zmartwychwstanie. Także w tę Noc Narodzenia Bóg objawia się jako
Ten, który jest światłem pokonującym wszelkie ciemności oraz
który objawia swoją zbawczą wszechmoc pośród naszej największej słabości. Choćby nasze życie wydawało się całe spowite ciemnością, nie stanowi ona przeszkody dla Boga. Światło
Narodzenia Chrystusa rozprasza wszelki nasz mrok.

ŚWIĄTECZNA REFLEKSJA
Ważnym aspektem Bożego Narodzenia jest uczestnictwo w
nabożeństwach świątecznych odprawianych w kościołach. Żadna
świecka uroczystość ani rodzinne spotkanie nie są w stanie
zastąpić tego szczególnego spotkania jakiem jest sakramentalne
przyjęcie Nowonarodzonego w czasie Liturgii. Niech zatem
celebrowanie jednego z najświętszych dni, śpiewanie podniosłych
kolęd, a także prostota Żłóbka napełni nas pewnością, co do
prawdy o wcieleniu Syna Bożego i zainspiruje nas do bycia
oddanymi uczestnikami Misji Chrystusa, którą wypełnia On w
swoim Kościele. Niech ten Święty dzień stanie się
błogosławionym czasem dla wszystkich z nas. Kiedy będziemy
dzielić się wzajemnie opłatkiem, otwórzmy nasze serca również na
błogosławieństwo Chrystusa, którego udziela w obfitości ludziom
dobrej woli.

SPECJALNE PODZIĘKOWANIE
Dziękujemy serdecznie Pani Annie Kudroń, która ofiarowała do
naszego kościoła dwie specjalne świece zakupione w Polsce. Będą
one służyły do upiększenia Liturgii w naszej świątyni w czasie
Bożego Narodzenia. Bóg zapłać za Chojna ofiarę.
KU PAMIĘCI
Jesteśmy zasmuceni informacją o odejściu Alberta J. Kullas. Pan
Kullas jako absolwent Szkoły Sw. Józefa był szczerze
zainteresowany wspieraniem edukacji katolickiej. Sam żył
wartościami, które wyniósł z naszej Alma Mater i dlatego, gdy
wieść o rozbudowie szkoły dotarła do Niego, był pierwszym z
tych, którzy zainteresowali się, w jaki sposób mogą pomóc w
realizacji tego zadania.
Nasza parafia i szkoła łączą się w modlitwie w Jego intencji. Msza
sw. o spokój duszy sw. pamięci Alberta Kullas zostanie
odprawiona 26 grudnia o godz. 11:00. Natomiast dzieci z naszej
szkoły, które bezpośrednio korzystają ze szczodrobliwości pana
Alberta będą się modliły w Jego intencji podczas Mszy sw. w
pierwszy piątek stycznia o godz. 8:30.
Niech dobry Bóg obdarzy Go wieczną radością i szczęściem w
swoim Królestwie, za wszelkie dobro, które dzięki Niemu
spłynęło na społeczność sw. Józefa.

PODZIĘKOWANIE
Kierujemy bardzo serdeczne podziękowanie do wszystkich,
którzy przygotowali prezenty dla potrzebujących. Wszystkie, te
zabawki, książki i inne potrzebne rzeczy z pewnością wywołają
uśmiech radości na dziecięcych twarzach. Szczególnie dziękuję
tym, którzy zdecydowali się na wsparcie finansowe dzieci, które pozwoli im na kontynuowanie edukacji w szkole katolickiej.
Do wspaniały prezent, który możemy ofiarować młodemu pokoleniu: kształtowanie charakteru i osobowości w duchu chrzescjańskim. Jeśli ktoś chciały jeszcze dołączyć się do tej wspaniałej akcji, to bardzo serdecznie zapraszamy. Kilka aniołków

NOWY PRAFIANIN
Witamy serdecznie Damiana Henryka Jagiełło, który w ubiegła
niedzielę przyjął sakrament Chrztu sw. w naszej Bazylice. Do
doskonały i wspaniały prezent bożonarodzeniowy dla Jego rodziców Łukasza i Marty. Z pewnością będzie to dar, który będą
pielęgnować do końca swego życia. Wyrażamy również
wdzięczność za złożoną przez nich ofiarę w wysokości 300 dolarów na potrzeby naszej parafii. Życzymy Wesołych Świąt
Damianowi i Jego Rodzicom.
OGŁOSZENIA SZKOLNE
30 National Migration Week rozpocznie się w niedzielę 8 stycznie 2012r. uroczystą Mszą św. o godz. 9:30. Temat tegorocznego
tygodnia brzmi: „Welcoming Christ the Migrant”.
Tydzień Szkół Katolickich w tym roku szkolnym odbędzie się w
dniach: 29 stycznia – 5 lutego 2012r. Tematem przewodnim będą
słowa: „Wiara, Nauka, Służba”. W planach również wizyta biskupa McManus’a, „Open House”, prezentacja: „The Magic of
Communication” i wiele innych. SJS Przygotowuje również projekt, który będzie polegał na zorganizowaniu zbiórki prezentów,
które następnie zostaną wysłane do żołnierzy stacjonujących w
Afganistanie. Prosimy o datki w postaci ciastek, cukierków, gum,
gier kieszonkowych, kart do gry itp. Z góry dziękujemy za Wasze
prezenty.
RELIGIA
Potrzebni katecheci! Jeśli chciałbyś zostać katechetę skontaktuj
się z Biurem Edukacji Religijnej. Zapewniamy szkolenie!
Kolejna lekcja religii dla wszystkich klas odbędzie się
9 stycznia.
ZAMONTOWANO TYMCZASOWE BARIERKI na schodach przed kościołem. Nadchodzi zima i z pewnością pomogą
one wielu osobom bezpiecznie wejść do kościoła. Na wiosnę
zostano one zamienione na właściwe, bardziej pasujące do wyglądu naszej bazyliki. Jednocześnie prosimy o ostrożność przy
poruszaniu się na schodach od ulicy Whitcomb. Jeden ze stopni, w związku z przeprowadzoną przebudową, jest znacznie
wyższy od pozostałych. Niedogodność ta zostanie usunięta,
kiedy prace przy schodach zostaną zakończone wiosną przyszłego roku. Tymczasem prosimy o ostrożność i uwagę.
