JACKPOT
In our lottery-and sweepstakes-obsessed
culture, it is common to ask ourselves or
others what they would do if they won. In
today’s first reading, Solomon certainly hits
the jackpot. What prize could be greater than
having God Almighty agree to give you whatever you ask for?
Out of all the things he could have asked for, Solomon chose
to ask for understanding and was rewarded with it. We would
do well to wonder what we would ask for if God made us the
same offer. Actually God does make us the same offer each
and every day, by granting us another day of life, a bit of the
earth’s goods, some gift or ability, some call to goodness, some
portion of the divine will. Each of these is a “prize.” We
should stop and examine what we are going to do with our
prize: keep it or use it selfishly, or put it at the service of the
spread of the gospel?
Next week’s second collection is designated for Diocesan Obligations. Since the Diocesan Obligation collection has been
lower than expected and we would like to stay current with
our payments to the Diocese, would you please consider increasing your donation for the month of August which is the
end of our fiscal year.
SAINT ANNE SOCIETY
We welcome members of the Saint Anne Society to the
8:15am liturgy this Sunday. New members will be inducted
into the Society during Mass followed by a brief meeting and
continental breakfast in the cafeteria.
All members are invited to participate in the liturgy and join
in the festivities after Mass.
SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL
We are pleased to report that preliminary enrollment for 2014
-2015 is on an increase. The Kindergarten class is almost filled
to capacity and Pre-K (2) - (3) and (5) have limited openings.
If you plan to register your child to SJS, please do so as soon as
possible to secure a place.
HELP!! - we especially need the assistance of parishioners
at this time of the year to clean and maintain the classrooms in
our School for the opening session in late August. There is
much to be done and we would appreciate your help during the
day time hours. Please call the school if you could share some
of your free time in refurbishing the classes for our students.

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
On Wednesday, July 30th, we will hold the traditional day of
prayer dedicated to St. Joseph at 6:30am and 7:00pm.
During our pilgrimage to Poland we visited the Shrine in
Kalisz where people of Poland and other countries make pilgrimages to the holy site not only in the spirit of petition, but
also in gratitude for received graces. We were told about a
pilgrimage of priests who were coming every year to the shrine
to thank St. Joseph who saved their lives in the concentration
camps in Dachau. The Nazi’s decided to liquidate and burn the
camp including the people to leave no trace of their atrocities.
The decision was made weeks ago that on a particular day at
6:00pm the fire would be lit to exterminate the entire camp and
destroy all evidence. The priests who found out about this decision prayed to St. Joseph to save the lives of the people and
made a vow to revisit Kalisz every year if their lives would be
spared. On that particular day, in the morning all the people
were anxious and nervous and were told to pray. At 4:00pm
American forces entered and liberated Dachau and all was
saved. From that time every year the priests come to the shrine
in the spirit of gratitude for their lives being saved. They
funded an altar for the St. Joseph Chapel. As the years passed
the number of priests dwindled but there are still several priests
who continue to obey their promise.
Here at St. Joseph’s we have a great opportunity to participate and spread the good news for the intention to St. Joseph.
On Wed., July 30th Lectors will assist in carrying the statue
of St. Joseph from the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the
sanctuary. We invite you to join us with friends and family and
write your requests on the petition slips to be read during the
Novena.
FIRST FRIDAY
We will observe First Friday of the month on August 1st.
Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the living members of the
Sacred Heart Society and we ask members and parishioners to
take part in this traditional First Friday service.
Scheduled adorers are invited to participate at their appointed
time. Adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to
the Divine Mercy and Benediction.
Mass at 7:00pm will be celebrated in the Polish language.
NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY
Please mark your calendar - to join us on Sunday, August
3rd to pray the chaplet to the Divine Mercy. We ask you to
make a special effort to make time to participate in meditation
and Benediction.
The most important and fundamental ingredient of this devotion is complete confidence and trust, in Jesus. Please take advantage of this opportunity to receive special graces from the
Lord.
FELICIAN SISTERS TAG SALE
On Saturday, September 6th the Felician Sisters of Our Lady
of the Angels Convent in Enfield are having a Tag Sale from
9:00am—2:00pm. Sr. Mary Apollonia will bake Babki for this
event.

DOZYNKI
Mark your Calendar - On August 17th, we will hold the
celebration of Dozynki at St. Joseph Parish Dozynki is celebrated in Europe at the end of harvest in the spirit of thanksgiving for abundant and bountiful crops. Its roots are ancient and
it is the expression of thanksgiving to God for the food and
other products of the land which could be compared to our
Thanksgiving Day.
It is always associated with the Feast of the Assumption on
Aug. 15 which is known as —”Blessed Mother of the Flowers”.
The essential part of Dozynki is a beautiful harvest wreath
made of fresh wheat, crops and fruit. An important part of this
festivity is a loaf of bread baked from fresh grain which the
most respected man or woman would bring to church together
with the harvest wreath. Every village makes every effort to
make the most beautiful harvest wreath and bring it into the
church to be blessed accompanied by young men and women in
their traditional costumes of their country. After Mass there is
a social celebration with music, good food and good company .
Many parishes across our country especially of Polish,
Lithuanian, German and French origin celebrate this occasion.
In some cities like Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Chicago—it is
celebrated on a grand scale.
Following this meaningful tradition, we will celebrate this
event on Sunday, August 17th at our Basilica. We will have a
bilingual Mass at 11:00am Mass where the harvest wreath will
be carried by our youth into our Basilica. After Mass we invite
everyone to join us for our social and a good time.
We are planning some special events including a money
raffle to raise funds to help defray the cost of our Diocesan Obligations. Tickets and more information will be mailed to all
parishioners. Please invite your friends and relatives to share
this joyful day as a Basilica Community.
CEMETERY UPDATE
I know that many of the gravesites at St. Joseph Garden of
Peace have been plagued by grub problems.
We have hired a company who will apply the needed product
to do the entire area now while the grubs are active and before
they cause more damage. Hopefully this will alleviate the problem.
Also, if you have shrubs on your gravesites that are overgrown and are growing onto abutting lots, please trim them to
confine them onto your own lot. If you wish to have them removed please call the rectory.
On Monday, July 28th we will identify some old trees that
have served their purpose to be cut down. If you are interested
in some fire wood be at the cemetery on Monday for pick up.

ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
The St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club is holding their annual
membership drive and new members will be installed at the
October meeting.
The club has supported the St. Joseph School children,
faculty and Felician Sisters since 1953, by sponsoring the
annual spelling bee, the school library, technology program,
various school trips, scholarships and the current reading
program. School mothers and guardians are encouraged to join.

Boże wezwanie, jakie przychodzi do nas
przez sumienie, domaga się jednoznacznego
odrzucenia zła. Jeżeli tego nie dokonujemy,
grozi nam utrata życia wiecznego. Nasz wybór
musi być radykalny, niepozwalający na kompromis ze złem. Nie
da się go pogodzić z życiem wiecznym: nic nieczystego do
niego nie wejdzie ani ten, co popełnia ohydę i kłamstwo, lecz
tylko zapisani w księdze życia Baranka. Stąd potrzeba tego
radykalizmu w odniesieniu do siebie i swojego postępowania,
zdecydowania się na dobro i jednoznacznego odrzucenia zła. To
zdecydowanie jest ewangeliczną solą potrzebną w naszym
sercu. Z drugiej jednak strony konieczne jest miłosierdzie.

manage everyday life with Ignatian Spiritual Exercises with a
retreat led by Fr. Brophy (Providence College), Bob Pfunder
(Notre Dame), Fr. Jonathan Slavinskas & Fr. Nick Desimone
(Worcester Diocese). We will relax, refresh and recharge!
Cost is $75. Begins Friday at 7:00pm and ends at noon Sunday.

ST ANNE SOCIETY
Kończymy tegoroczną nowennę do św. Anny, matki
Najświętszej Maryi Panny. Na Mszy św. o godz. 8:15 zostaną
przyjęci ci, którzy zdecydowali swoja duchowość i służbę Bogu
przeżywać wzorując się na św. Annie. Po Mszy odbędzie się
krótkie spotkanie i śniadanie dla członków Stowarzyszenia.
Druga kolekta w przyszłym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona
na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne.
Zbiórka na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne w ostatnim czasie
była dużo niższa niż zakładalismy. Chcąc utrzymać płynosć
spłat zobowiązań jakie mamy wobec Diecezji, bardzo prosimy
rozważenie zwiększenia ofiar na ten cel w miesiącu sierpniu,
tak bysmy molgi zamknąć bez zaległosci rok finansowy,
którego koniec przypada własnie na sierpień.

NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
W środę, 30 lipca, to tradycyjny już dzień modlitwy w naszej
parafii, za wstawiennictwem św. Józefa. Podczas pielgrzymki do
Polski odwiedziliśmy sanktuarium w Kaliszu, gdzie wierni z całej
Polski i innych krajów pielgrzymują do świętego miejsca nie tylko
z modlitewnymi prośbami, ale także w duchu wdzięczności za
otrzymane łaski. Powiedziano nam o pielgrzymce kapłanów,
którzy co roku przybywają do sanktuarium, aby podziękować
św. Józefowi, który uratował ich życie kiedy przebywali w obozie
koncentracyjnym w Dachau. Naziści pod koniec wojny postanowili
zlikwidować i spalić obóz razem z ludźmi, aby nie pozostawić
śladów swoich zbrodni. Około tygodnia przez planowaną datą
zniszczenia obozu informacja dotarła do więźniów. Obóz miał być
podpalony o szóstej wieczorem. Uwięzieni tam księża postanowili
modlić się do św. Józefa i obiecali odwiedzać Jego sanktuarium
każdego roku, jeśli zostaną ocaleni. W dzień zniszczenia, około
dwie godziny przed zaplanowaną akcją, amerykanie wyzwolili
obóz i ocalili przebywających tam więźniów. Od tego czasu co
roku księża ci przybywają do sanktuarium w duchu wdzięczności
za uratowane życie. Ufundowali oni ołtarz w kaplicy św. Józefa.
W miarę upływu lat liczba tych kapłanów zmniejszyła się, ale ci
którzy żyją nadal wiernie wypełniają złożoną obietnicę.
W naszej Bazylice również mamy wspaniałą możliwość prosić
Boga o potrzebne nam łaski, które św. Józef nieustannie nam
wyprasza.
W środę, 30 lipca w procesji na rozpoczęcie i zakończenie
nabożeństwa, figurę św. Józefa będą nieśli Lektorzy. Zapraszamy
do przyłączenia się do nas z rodziną i przyjaciółmi. Intencje
modlitewne można zapisać na specjalnych kartkach znajdujących
się w kaplicy Matki Bożej.
SZCZEGÓLNA PROŚBA!!!
Mając na uwadze większą chwałę Bożą jak również dobro
duchowe naszych parafian, zawracamy się ze szczególną prośbą do
wiernych, którzy uczestniczą w nabożeństwach odprawianych w
naszej bazylice, a szczególnie w Nowennie do św. Józefa, aby
opisali swoje doświadczenia duchowe lub otrzymane szczególne
łaski. Chcielibyśmy zamieścić te świadectwa w biuletynie, aby inni
mogli podbudować swoją wiarę i utwierdzić się w swojej osobistej
relacji z Bogiem.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK
W dniu 1 sierpnia będziemy obchodzili pierwszy piątek miesiąca
sierpnia. Msza św. o 7:00 będzie ofiarowana za żyjących członków
Sacred Heart Society. Zapraszamy wszystkich członków
Stowarzyszenia i parafian do wzięcia udziału w tradycyjnej
pierwszopiątkowej adoracji. Zakończenie adoracji o godz. 15:00
z Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego i błogosławieństwem
Najświętszym Sakramentem.
Msza o 7:00 pm odbędzie się w języku polskim. Pół godziny
przed Mszą możliwosć spowiedzi.

RELIGIA
Prosimy o zapisywanie dzieci na zajęcia katechetyczne w nowym

NOWENNA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Już dziś prosimy zaplanować swoje zajęcia tak, by móc wziąć
udział w niedzielę, 3 sierpnia, w Nabożeństwie do Miłosierdzia
Bożego. Którego głównym przesłaniem jest pełne zaufanie Bogu
i Jego Miłosierdziu. Warto nie zmarnować wspaniałej okazji, aby
poczuć miłość Pana, która przejawia się w całkowitym ofiarowaniu
sią za nas grzeszników.
DOŻYNKI
W miesiącu sierpniu lato zaczyna powoli ustępować jesieni. Jest
to czas zbiorów, kończą się letnie wakacje i zaczynają
przygotowania do nowego roku szkolnego. To dobry czas, aby
podziękować Bogu za otrzymane dobra i łaski. W naszej parafii
będziemy obchodzić tradycyjne Dożynki, które są świętowane
szczególnie uroczyście w Polsce w okresie zakończenia zbiorów.
Nasze obchody odbędą się 17 sierpnia w połączeniu z obchodami
święta Wniebowzięcia Matki Bożej.
Elementem, który jest bardzo charakterystyczny jest dożynkowy
wieniec wykonany ze zbóż, świeżych roślin i owoców. Ważną
częścią tego święta jest symbol chleba upieczonego ze świeżego
ziarna, które najbardziej szanowany mężczyzna lub kobieta
przynosi do kościoła wraz z wieńcem pełnym zbiorów. Każda
wioska dokłada wszelkich starań, aby stworzyć najpiękniejszy
wieniec i przynieś go do kościoła, aby otrzymać błogosławieństwo.
Obchody religijne często połączone są z zabawami i festynami
oraz wydarzeniami sportowymi.
Wiele parafii w Stanach Zjednoczonych, zwłaszcza pochodzenia
polskiego, litewskiego, niemieckiego i francuskiego kultywuje
tradycję obchodzenia dożynek.. W niektórych miastach, takich jak
Filadelfia, Milwaukee i Chicago obchody te są organizowanie
z wielkim rozmachem i przybierają bardzo uroczystą formę.
W naszej Bazylice świętowanie rozpoczniemy Mszą św. o godz.
11:00. Po Mszy św. zapraszamy wszystkich na piknik parafialny,
w czasie którego planujemy wiele atrakcji dla dzieci i starszych,
w tym loterię pieniężną, z której dochód pomoże nam spłacić część
zobowiązań, jakie parafia ma wobec diecezji.
CMENTARZ
W bieżącym rok bardzo duża powierzchnia naszego cmentarza
została „zainfekowana” przez larwy owadów, co spowodowało,
że na wielu grobach trawa wyschła. Wynajęliśmy firmę, która
rozsieje specjalny środek, który powinien rozwiązać ten problem
i nie pozwolić rozwijać się larwom w przyszłym roku.
Ponadto, jeśli na grobach waszych bliskich są rozrośnięte
krzewy, które zacieniają sąsiednie działki, bardzo prosimy
o przycięcie ich, tak by nie wyrastały po za teren waszego grobu.
Jeśli chcecie, aby ta praca została wykonana przez pracowników
cmentarza, bardzo prosimy o kontakt z plebanią.
W poniedziałek 28 lipca będziemy wycinali drzewa na
cmentarzu. Zainteresowanych nabyciem drzewa do kominka
prosimy o obecność na cmentarzu w tym dniu.
ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club rozpoczyna coroczny nabór
nowych członków, którzy będą przyjęci w szeregi Klubu
w październiku. Klub wspiera dzieci, nauczycieli i Siostry
Felicjanki w szkole św. Józefa od 1953 roku, sponsorując Spelling
Bee, bibliotekę szkolną, program technologiczny, różne wycieczki
szkolne, stypendia oraz aktualny program nauki czytania czytania.
Matki i opiekunki dzieci z naszej szkolnych zachęcamy
