RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process
established by the Church for individuals to become Catholic
and receive the Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism, Confirmation,
and the Eucharist. If you wish to become Catholic, or are a
Baptized Catholic in need of making your First Communion
and/or Confirmation, please call the Religious Education Office.
BAPTISM: On designated Sundays. Please call to make
arrangements. Parents are required to receive orientation.
MARRIAGE: Proper preparation for marriage requires one

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

TRUST
Keys hold great significance for those who carry them.
They represent the trust and authority of the owner when
given to another person. We may give our house key to a
trusted friend to take care of our matters while we are away.
We may give keys to someone responsible for maintaining or
working in a particular building. Keys to vehicles are given
to people who have proven themselves responsible drivers.
The readings today focus on this kind of trust–the trust that
conveys authority and responsibility. In the first reading, the
symbol is specifically that of a key; but the second reading
and the Gospel also speak of trust and leadership as they refer
to the earthly church that Jesus established.
The second collection next weekend is designated for
higher utility and energy costs.
PARISH JUBILEE CELEBRATION
Program- The Jubilee Committee met for the third time
and outlined various activities which will take place during
the Jubilee Year. This includes pastoral programs, social
functions and cultural events which will be sent to all by the
committee.
The Jubilee Collection–I am very grateful to the
parishioners who have generously responded to our monthly
collection which allows us to follow our projected plans. I
am impressed with the individuals who live on a limited
income and yet they are providing significant donations. We
are recording all contributions and may I ask that you also
keep track of your gifts. When you reach the $1000 goal, a
letter of acknowledgment will be sent to you. The names of
all donors will be listed in the Jubilee Book.
Time spent in church, acts of kindness and charity, good
deeds, financial support of the basilica are the precious stones
which not only help our parish, but becomes our own treasure
in Eternity.
Progress of Work-The area at the entrance to our Basilica
which amounts to about 2000 sq. ft. has been covered by a
special stone called “Umbriano”, flanked with different
colors of borders and other accents to make it interesting,
appealing and esthetic.
It was a tedious job because of the scarcity of needed
materials, the adjustment of the stones to fit the design and
economic concerns. The stones will be filled, pounded and
sealed to preserve the shine and protect against the elements.
At the present time we are concentrating on the granite stairs
which will be faced with red brick. In the following weeks,
we will brush the bronze doors at the entrance and seal them
with lacquer to prevent oxidation. The sculpture of the Good

Shepherd above the doors needs work to be brought to its original
color. In addition, the damaged brick on the wall of the church,
which was previously covered by the stairs, needs to be refurbished
with new brick and this will conclude this phase of the project.
SCHOOL NEWS
Summer vacation is almost over and the new school year is
imminent. Important dates for students, parents and grandparents:

September 1 - Parent orientation for grades 1-8 @ 6:00p.m.;

We have added three new and outstanding full time teachers to
the faculty at St. Joseph School for the coming year. All three
educators are extremely talented and highly regarded.
Due to the retirement of Grade 2 teacher, Mrs. Hester, we have
hired Mrs. Nancy Bush, a veteran parochial teacher for over 15
years to teach the second graders.
Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Ashley Cormier has relocated and we
have hired Mrs. Magdalena Farrell, who previously taught at St.
Mary’s Elementary School in Worcester.
Mrs. Stacie Fallon, Pre-K teacher has moved from the area and
Mrs. Cassandra Raszka, who taught at St. Mary’s School in
Putnam, Ct. will welcome our Pre-K students.
We wish all the teachers and students a happy and successful
school year.
New registrations are still being accepted for Pre-K through
Grade 8. The school office is open from 9-12 noon. If you need
assistance
in the afternoon, you may call the rectory for

SAINT MAXIMILIAN KOLBE
This past week we remembered the martyrdom of Maximilian
Kolbe. Born in Poland on January 7, 1894, Maximilian chose to
serve the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was ordained a priest on April
28, 1918. Poor health curtailed his missionary work in Rome,
Japan and India and he returned to Poland. He was arrested by the
Germans in 1939 and shipped to Auschwitz prison. He stepped
forward to take the place of another prisoner to be executed. On
August 14, 1941, the eve of the Feast of the Assumption of our
Lady into Heaven, Father Kolbe was martyred by a lethal dose of
carbolic acid.
Pope Paul VI beatified Father Kolbe and on October 10, 1982,
Pope John Paul II declared his compatriot a Saint. As you may
know one of the murals in Saint Joseph Basilica depicts St.
Maximilian in prisoner garb.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
50/50 Raffle: The Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Basilica
#12980, will once again be running their 50/50 Raffle beginning
the first weekend in September. The raffle as always will run the
entire month. Tickets will be sold at the entrances of the church
and as always may be purchased from any Knight. The
tickets are one (1) for $5 or three (3) for $10. The average
payout has been over one thousand (1,000) dollars. The
Knights appreciate your continued support.
Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner: The Knights of
Columbus will sponsor a take-out only Spaghetti and
Meatball Dinner on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The cost
is a donation of your choice. It will be held in the school
cafeteria from 4:30 to 5:30p.m, or until the food runs out.
The dinner will include spaghetti, meatball, salad, bread and
a dessert.
Mark your calendar: On Wednesday, September 7th at
6:00p.m. the Knights of Columbus will sponsor an evening of

oznajmiƒ swoj obecnoу. Tutaj potrzeba dokonaƒ konkretnego wysi»ku i zapisaƒ
si“ do poszczególnej parafii. JeÑli takiego zapisu nie ma, to oficjalnie dana osoba
cz»onkiem parafii nie jest. Co z tego wynika? Parafia ma okreÑlone obowizki
wobec swoich wiernych. Jednym z najwaóniejszych jest udzielanie sakramentów
(Chrzty, Ðluby, Namaszczenia chorych, Spowiedzi…), czy sakramentaliów
(pogrzeby, poÑwi“cenia, b»ogos»awie½stwa). Niektóre z tych pos»ug wymagaj
szczególnego przygotowania ze strony parafii i ze strony tych, którzy je przyjmuj.
Kaódy kto jest cz»onkiem danej wspólnoty parafialnej ma prawo oczekiwaƒ od
parafii wsparcia w óyciu religijnym, ale i nie tylko. Niestety, ci którzy nie s
