How do you approach authority and positions of prestige
and leadership? Jesus did the unthinkable! He wedded authority with love and service and with sacrifice — the sacrifice of one's life for the sake of another. Authority without
sacrificial love is brutish and self-serving. Jesus also used
stark language to explain what kind of sacrifice he had in
mind. His disciples must drink his cup if they expect to
reign with him in his kingdom. The cup he had in mind was
a bitter one involving crucifixion. What kind of cup does the
Lord have in mind for us? For some disciples such a cup
entails physical suffering and the painful struggle of martyrdom. But for many, it entails the long routine of the Christian life, with all its daily sacrifices, disappointments, setbacks, struggles, and temptations. A disciple must be ready
to lay down his or her life in martyrdom and be ready to lay
it down each and every day in the little and big sacrifices
required. What makes such sacrifice a joy rather than a burden? It is love - the kind of "love which God has poured into
our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to
us" (Romans 5:5). An early church father summed up Jesus'
teaching with the expression: "to serve is to reign with
Christ." We share in God's reign by laying down our lives
in humble caring service of one another as Jesus did for our
sake. Are you ready to lay down your life and to serve others as Jesus did? "Lord Jesus, make me a servant of love for
your kingdom, that I may seek to serve rather than be
served. Inflame my heart with your love that I may give
generously and serve joyfully for your sake."
Zdumiewający tupet okazali dwaj synowie Zebedeusza,
Jan i jego brat Jakub, gdy przedstawili prośbę, by w chwale
Mistrza jeden z nich siedział po prawej stronie a drugi po
lewej. Szokuje sama prośba świadcząca o nieopanowanej
ambicji braci i szokuje sposób, w jaki proszą: „Chcemy,
żebyś nam uczynił to, o co Cię poprosimy”. Słowo
„chcemy” świadczy wyraźnie o próbie „wymuszenia” na
Jezusie realizacji prośby. To już nie jest prośba, to jest
żądanie. Ta historia często się powtarza. Wielu podchodzi
do Boga nie z prośbą, lecz z żądaniem. Nasze modlitwy
przypominają żądanie synów Zebedeusza. Chcemy, by Bóg
spełnił naszą wolę. Chcemy wymusić na Nim, by swoją
wolę dostosował do naszej. Kobieta licząca blisko
pięćdziesiąt lat odkryła, iż wszystkie nieszczęścia w jej
życiu, wynikały z tego, że zmuszała Boga, by spełniał jej
życzenia. Gdy się to nie stało, miała do Niego wielkie
pretensje, a gdy się stało, okazywało się, że wychodziło to
na jej niekorzyść. Stracone dziecko, rozbite małżeństwo,
nieudane związki, choroby... Zmęczona swym życiem
odkryła, że najmądrzejszym rozwiązaniem jest zgoda na to,
co daje Bóg. Dziś prosi Go o wiele rzeczy, lecz dodaje:
„nie moja, lecz Twoja wola niech się stanie”. Dostrzegła
mądrość Boga i korzyści, jakie daje zgoda na Jego wolę.
Ile razy człowiek coś „wymusi” na Bogu, tyle razy mu to
zaszkodzi. Nie jest to jednak wina Boga, lecz człowieka.
Trzeba sporo czasu i doświadczenia, by to dostrzec. Pokora
polega na dobrowolnym zajęciu tego miejsca, jakie Bóg
nam wyznaczył. Miejsce wyznaczone nam przez Boga jest
zawsze otoczone majestatem Jego autorytetu. Ten, kto je
dobrowolnie zajmie, odkrywa na nim swoją prawdziwą
wielkość.

Św. Szymona i Juda Tadeusza, Apostołów.
These two apostles of Jesus are honored on the same day. St.
Simon was called "the zealous one" because he had so much
devotion to the Jewish law. Once he had been called by the Lord
to be an apostle, he gave his heart and his energy to preaching
the Gospel. With the other apostles, he received the Holy
Spirit on the first Pentecost. Then it is believed that he
went to Egypt to preach the faith. Afterward he went to
Persia with the apostle St. Jude, and the two of them
were martyred there. St. Jude is sometimes called
Thaddeus, which means "the brave one." It was he
who asked the Lord a famous question at the Last
Supper. Jesus had said: "He who loves me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest
myself to him." And St. Jude wanted to know: "Lord,
how is it that you are about to manifest yourself to us
and not to the world?" Jesus gave him the answer: "If
anyone love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will
love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with
him." St. Jude is sometimes called the saint of "desperate or
impossible cases." People pray to him when things seem
hopeless. Often God answers their prayers through the
intercession of this beloved apostle.

w Jerozolimie. Św. Szymon z przydomkiem
Gorliwy miał głosić Ewangelię
w Egipcie. Św. Juda Tadeusz, brat
św. Jakuba Młodszego, był
krewnym Jezusa, oddanym
misjonarzem, autorem
Listu,

przestrzega i nas przed
podziałami i zachęca „do
walki o wiarę raz tylko
przekazaną świętym”.
Św. Juda Tadeusz,
uważany za patrona spraw
beznadziejnych, bliski
krewny Jezusa, nauczał
w Mezopotamii i Persji.
Obydwaj ponieśli śmierć
męczeńską w Persji. Na fundamencie
nauczania i ofiary także tych dwóch Apostołów zbudowany został
Kościół, którego część stanowimy. I tak jak oni jesteśmy powołani
do zdobywania dusz ludzkich dla Boga.
