Gospel: Luke 10:25-37
Christ the Lord
This parable is so familiar to us that we often see only one of its dimensions. Certainly it
presents a model for us to follow – “Go and do the same yourself” – but it also presents us
with a self-portrait of Christ; it reveals what kind of a Lord he is. Each of us has been robbed
of our original holiness by original sin. Our own selfishness and sins (and the sins of others)
have deeply wounded our souls. We lay on the side of life’s path in need of a Savior. We
have been bruised and broken and wounded; the Lord kneels down and lifts us up with his
healing touch. Christ is the Good Samaritan, the merciful Lord who heals and restores us
with the balm of his sacraments, who pays for our salvation with the boundless riches of his
grace, poured out generously on Calvary’s cross and entrusted to the innkeeper of the
Church, who watches over our convalescence until he comes again. He is the Lord, yes, but
the truly noble Lord, who cares enough to come meet us in our need and carry us safely to
his Father’s inn.

The arrival of the Dominican Sisters draws nearer- 20 August, when they will be
taking up residence at the Elgin Convent. Please pray for those at the Mother
House, at St Cecilia's Abbey, Nashville, Tennessee, the Prioress-General,
Mother Anne Marie op, Sr Marian op who is co-ordinating the Mission at home,
and especially for the sisters who are coming to Scotland: Sr Anna Christi
(superior), Sr Imelda Ann, Sr Nicholas Marie, Sr Christiana—
Please pray that they will have a safe journey, settle into life at their new home,
and rooted and grounded in prayer and the love of the Lord may they lead
others into Truth and build up the Community of Faith.

The Jewish Bakers
The Jewish Bakers "Shalom eleichem!" And, "Amen, Amen" to that : we are truly blessed with peace!
We offer our thanks, our heartfelt appreciation to Christopher, Rhona, Lukasz and Sylwia who kneeded, baked and purveyed the Jewish breads
and fruit loaves in the Hall last Sunday.
It was a marvellous and inspiring effort that raised £129 {or, if you like, 701:05 Jewish Shekels } for the Parish Fabric Account (no2), for Windows.
We need to unlock more talents and skills for fundraising-- any one out there an "ice cream maker"? It's the season for ice cream and strawberries !!

Przykład pociąga. I dobry, i zły. Fala przemocy pochłania stale nowe
ofiary. Ofiary to nie tylko osoby poszkodowane; to również ci, którzy są

Przypowieść o miłosiernym Samarytaninie nie mówi nic o liczbie
zbójców ani też o ich dalszym losie. Zło nie jest tu nagłaśniane.
Natomiast jako przykład podany jest czyn Samarytanina. To jego
postawie Jezus poświęcił najwięcej uwagi. Owszem, byli też i lewita, i
kapłan. Ich postawa jednak szczególnie boli. Wydaje się, że byli dobrze
przygotowani i uformowani, przeszli zapewne niejeden egzamin, ale to
nie oni zdali egzamin z życia. Ich postawa bulwersuje bardziej nawet niż
zachowanie złoczyńców. Pomocy udzielił napadniętemu człowiekowi
Samarytanin, którego każdy Żyd uważał za wroga. Pomoc jest
udzielona natychmiast i obejmuje cały czas leczenia i rekonwalescencji.
Samarytanin mówi do gospodarza: „Miej o nim staranie, a jeśli co więcej
wydasz, ja oddam tobie, gdy będę wracał”.
Powódź roku 1997 i tragedia tysięcy powodzian wywołała w
społeczeństwie odruch indywidualnej i społecznie zorganizowanej
solidarności. Wśród wielu inicjatyw zrodziła się akcja „Rodzina rodzinie”.
W wielu wypadkach nie skończyło się tylko na pomocy materialnej.
Sporo osób dotkniętych skutkami powodzi mówiło, że jeszcze większe
znaczenie niż pomoc materialna miało dla nich wsparcie duchowe,
pomoc moralna. Największym zaskoczeniem było to, że pomagali obcy
ludzie. Powstały nowe przyjaźnie... Młode małżeństwo z Raciborza
wychowujące dwójkę dzieci dzięki natychmiastowej pomocy szybko
otrząsnęło się z apatii i przygnębienia. Prawdziwa tragedia nadeszła
jednak kilka miesięcy po powodzi, kiedy wydawało się już, że
największe szkody zostały naprawione. Otóż ojciec rodziny pewnego
dnia nie wrócił z pracy do domu. Młoda żona została zawiadomiona, że
stracił życie w nieszczęśliwym wypadku, jaki miał miejsce w zakładzie
pracy. Został przygnieciony ciężarem, który urwał się z suwnicy. Żona
była w stanie błogosławionym. Oczekiwali trzeciego dziecka. Ufali, że
narodziny wniosą nową nadzieję i radość życia, że pomogą zapomnieć
o ranach i lękach, jakie przyniosła powódź. Przyszła próba jeszcze
trudniejsza. – Gdyby nie obecność „obcych” osób, które nam pomogły w
czasie powodzi, nie wiem, jakbym to wytrzymała – mówi tragicznie
doświadczona matka. – Teraz oni są jak rodzina. Przyjeżdżają do nas
bardzo często i nigdy z pustymi rękami.
W maju przyszedł na świat chłopiec. Na matkę chrzestną poproszono
osobę, która pierwsza dotarła po powodzi do ich domu i razem ze swoją
siostrą do tej pory tej rodzinie pomaga. Obie zrezygnowały z wielu
weekendów, a teraz planują zaprosić do siebie całą osieroconą rodzinę
na wakacje. Podobnych sytuacji niesienia bliźnim bezinteresownej
pomocy jest wiele i za każdym razem chciałoby się powiedzieć: „Idź, i ty
czyń podobnie”.
Czasem trzeba trochę więcej dobrej woli, czasem poczucia humoru czy
fantazji, aby wywołać falę dobra. Czasopismo «Glamour» zamieściło w
grudniowym numerze zdjęcie kobiety w czerwonym samochodzie. Otóż
przejeżdżając przez płatny most Bay Bridge dała kasjerowi należność
za siedem biletów i powiedziała: „Płacę za sześć kolejnych
samochodów”. Jakież było zdziwienie kierowców tych pojazdów! Obcy
człowiek... Jednym z obdarowanych był dziennikarz. Zapytał o
przyczynę. – Ja też pytałem – powiedział kasjer. – Otrzymałem
odpowiedź: Czyń podobnie...
