Tomasz Szymborski Mgr inż. Tadeusz Pacholik Warsaw, 15-11-2012 Report on 8th Industrial Technology, Science and Innovation Fair TECHNICON - INNOVATION 2012 Dr. Adam Samborski, mgr inż. Tomasz Szymborski and mgr inż. Tadeusz Pacholik took part in 8th Industrial Technology, Science and Innovation Fair TECHNICON - INNOVATION 2012 on 25th and 26th October 2012. The conference took place in New Exhibition & Conference Center in Gdańsk. On the exhibitors list were many renewable institutions as Polish Academy of Sciences, Air Force Institute of Technology, Maritime University of Szczecin and others. The scope of visitors during the Fair was ranging from elementary school children and high school students to university students and PhD candidates. Other visitors were scientists, inventors and businessmen from various areas connected to cutting edge research. During the Fair our team presented experiments that involved microfluidics and Lab-on-aChip systems. Dr. Samborski and mgr inż. Szymborski presented experiments, i.e. generation of the water droplets in oil phase in Flow-Focusing system. They also presented microfluidic devices and Lab-on-Chip (LoC) system micromachined in polycarbonate and the microfluidic chips made by the soft photolithography technology (in PDMS elastomer). They presented a system for electro-coalescence in microscale, and a chip capable of generating double emulsions. These devices were used to perform experiments under which the articles were published in prestigious scientific journals. On the second day of the Fair mgr inż. Tomasz Szymborski gave a presentation titled "The way of protecting the channels inside the microfluidic devices from the organic solvents". We took part in the contest Innovation 2012, where our Institute reported two patents into the competition. As a result, Institute of the Physical Chemistry PAS won the silver medal for: "Pochodne bis(2,2’ - bitienylo)metanu, molekularnie wydrukowany polimer tworzony za pomocą polimeryzacji pochodnych bis (2,2’ bitienylo)metanu i zastosowanie warstwy tego polimeru do selektywnego oznaczania I uwalniania adrenaliny" (Derivatives of bis(2,2'bithienyl)methane, molecularly imprinted polymer prepared by polymerization of derivatives EUROPEAN UNION Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences address: M. II), and distinction for: "The way of protecting the channels inside the microfludic devices from the organic solvents" (Dr. Paweł Jankowski, Dr. Dominika Ogończyk and dr hab. Piotr Garstecki, Dept. III). During the Fair TECHNICON-INNOWACJE 2012, Dr. Samborski and mgr inż. Szymborski actively talked with conference attendees who visited their booth. They presented and explained their research, which in many cases resembles most of the work done in our institute. Therefore, they encouraged students to attend the internship in IPC PAS and informed them about possibilities of preparing B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD. thesis in laboratories of the IPC PAS. The way of presenting of IPC PAS which has been chosen (microfluidic experiments combined with showing live LoC systems plus multimedia presentation) was a success – there were lots of students, scientists and other interested visitors who talked with Dr. Samborski and mgr inż. Szymborski about research in the IPC PAS. Adam Samborski Tomasz Szymborski Tadeusz Pacholik EUROPEAN UNION Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences address: M.
