Bartłomiej Kominek
born in 1973 in Warsaw. He began his music education
at the age of six. While studying in the Fryderyk Chopin
Secondary School of Music, he was awarded the
scholarship of the Fryderyk Chopin Scholarship Fund
(four times) and won the National Piano Competition in
Białystok, where he also received prizes for the best
performance of Bach’s composition and of Chopin’s
nocturne. He studied at the Academy of Music in
Katowice under the supervision of Paweł Skrzypek and
Eugeniusz Knapik and at the Academy of Music in
Kraków with Janusz Olejniczak. He participated in
master courses taught by the greatest piano teachers,
among others by Andrzej Jasiński, Oxana Jablonska,
Lee Kum Sing and Ryszard Bakst. Presently he lectures
at the Academy of Music in Krakow where he has
received a PhD in piano.
He has won numerous prizes and awards in piano competitions and festivals in Poland
(First Award in the National Piano Competition in Białystok) and abroad, among
others in Kil (Sweden), Glasgow and London (Second Award in the International
Music Competition), and also at the Polish Piano Music Festival in Słupsk and the
Talent Festival in Tarnów. He has performed in concert halls in Poland (Polish Piano
Music Festival in Słupsk, Radio Festival in Warsaw, “Bravo Maestro” Festival in the
Ignacy Paderewski House in Kąśna Dolna, the Talent Festival in Tarnów, the “Warsaw
Autumn” Festival, the International Festival of Kraków Composers), as well as in
Germany, France, Spain, Great Britain, Japan and Holland, receiving glowing reviews
from music critics. He took part in Chopin festivals in Gent (Belgium), Valldemossa
(Majorca) and Nohant (France). He has recorded for the Polish Radio. He played the
main role of Fryderyk Chopin in a film produced by the Japanese Television.
He is also deeply involved in chamber music projects. He performs with many
renowned artists (Wojciech Michniewski, Janusz Olejniczak, Elżbieta Towarnicka,
Ricardo Sciamarella, Aleksander Gebert, Josep Sancho), orchestras and ensembles,
including Sinfonia Varsovia, Concerto Avenna, “DAFŎ” String Quartet and
“Camerata” String Quartet.
In 2003 he prepared for publication in PWM (Polish Music Edition) a chamber
version of Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concertos for piano and string quartet. PWM also
published his chamber versions of Fantasy on Polish Themes Op. 13 and Andante
Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante Op. 22. In preparation are Chopin’s other
works for piano and orchestra.
