in the presence of the Eucharistic Lord. Benediction takes
place at 8:50 AM.

Lenten coin holders will be available in the vestibule
of the church. You may want to use this as a means of

A simple meal of soup & bread is a wonderful way to
nourish your hunger with a scaled-down meal. It reminds
us that God is the One for whom we ultimately hunger
and thirst. Moreover, the meal gives us an opportunity to
meet new friends in our parish family. When & Where?
Sunday, March 30th at 2:00PM - all served in the parish
Center. Entrance to the Center is from Newkirk Ave and
from the lower church. You are asked for an offering of
$5-7 to cover the cost.
DIVINE MERCY PILGRIMAGE
St. Rose of Lima will have its annual pilgrimage to
Stockbridge, MA on Saturday, April 26th. Pickup will be
at 8:00AM on Newkirk Avenue behind the church. Come
and spend the day with friends and parishioners. Call or
come to the rectory for tickets which are $45 per person.
ANNUAL DIOCESAN
CELEBRATION
WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY
Bishop DiMarzio will celebrate the Anniversary Mass
on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00AM, at St. James Cathedral located at 250 Cathedral Place, Brooklyn, NY. All
couples celebrating their 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th (and
above) anniversaries are invited to attend this celebration
of love and commitment. All couples will have the opportunity to renew their wedding vows, receive a personalized certificate signed by Bishop DiMarzio, and be
greeted by a bishop at the end of the Mass. Light refreshments will follow. For more information, please contact

2014 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
The following Sunday

begins this year’s Annual
Catholic Appeal. As one
large Catholic family, we
must
share
a
clear
understanding
of
our
participation in the life of the
Church here in the Diocese
of Brooklyn. With that
conviction in mind, we ask
you to reflect on the theme of
this year’s Annual Catholic
Appeal, When We Give, We
Share the Light of Faith.
Giving to the annual appeal is a significant means for us
to serve as instruments of our Lord, in our own homes,
our “domestic” church, and in our many neighborhood
parishes, schools and ministries.
We hope and pray that you will offer a generous
response to Catholic Education, Faith Formation,
Migration Services, Vocations, Catholic Charities - as
well as our parish communities, by living a commitment
to support the broader diocesan family. In the Diocese of
Brooklyn, we are one Church united as the Body of
Christ.
Following a short presentation at each Mass, the
ushers will hand out the “ in – pew” solicitation pledge
cards. We ask that you take one home and prayerfully
reflect on making a donation to the appeal on behalf of
our parish. Please return the cards by mail directly to
the appeal office with “St. Rose of Lima (Brooklyn)”
written on the form. Thank you!
THIRST
Each time today’s Gospel story is read, I can’t help but
think of the many television commercials I’ve seen
depicting perspiring athletes lifting a beverage to their
lips while the scorching sun beats down on them. Our
culture has definite ideas about how to quench thirst.
Today, those ideas are turned upside down. The
Samaritan woman operates, initially, on the TV
commercial level. She asks Jesus for the flowing water so
that she will not have to keep coming to the well. Jesus
then talks about what real thirst is, and how he, and he
alone, can quench that thirst. Lent calls us to find those
places deep within ourselves where we thirst. In our thirst,
as did the Israelites, we cry out to God asking for springs
of living water. Deep down we know that only the Lord
can satisfy these thirsts.

śmierć z pragnienia? Mojżesz wołał wtedy do Pana i
mówił: Co mam uczynić z tym ludem? Niewiele brakuje,
a ukamienują mnie! Pan odpowiedział Mojżeszowi:
Wyjdź przed lud i weź kilku ze starszych Izraela ze sobą.
Weź w rękę laskę, którą uderzyłeś Nil, i idź. Oto Ja
stanę przed tobą na skale, na Horebie. Uderzysz w
skałę, a wypłynie z niej woda, i lud zaspokoi swe

Jezus przybył do miasteczka samarytańskiego,
zwanego Sychar, w pobliżu pola, które /niegdyś/ dał
Jakub synowi swemu, Józefowi. Było tam źródło Jakuba.
Jezus zmęczony drogą siedział sobie przy studni. Było to
około szóstej godziny. Nadeszła /tam/ kobieta z Samarii,
aby zaczerpnąć wody. Jezus rzekł do niej: Daj Mi pić!
Jego uczniowie bowiem udali się przedtem do miasta
dla zakupienia żywności. Na to rzekła do Niego
Samarytanka: Jakżeż Ty będąc Żydem, prosisz mnie,
Samarytankę, bym Ci dała się napić? Żydzi bowiem z
Samarytanami unikają się nawzajem. Jezus
odpowiedział jej na to: O, gdybyś znała dar Boży i /
wiedziała/, kim jest Ten, kto ci mówi: Daj Mi się napić prosiłabyś Go wówczas, a dałby ci wody żywej (…).

Takie spotkania były już trzy: sługa Abrahama (swat
Izaaka) spotkał Rebekę, Jakub – Rachelę, Mojżesz –
Seforę. Schemat spotkania zawsze ten sam: spotkanie
mężczyzny i kobiety przy studni, rozmowa, kobieta
odchodzi do domu, potem sprowadza się mężczyznę
i odbywają się zaślubiny. W dzisiejszej Ewangelii chodzi
o zaślubiny ludzkiej duszy z Duchem Świętym („gdybyś
wiedziała, kim jest ten, kto do ciebie mówi, prosiłabyś,
a dałby ci wody żywej”), o przebaczenie grzechów („idź
i zawołaj swego męża”), o ugaszenie wiecznego
pragnienia, jakim stworzenie łaknie swego Stwórcy.o.

2014 CAMPAÑA CATÓLICA ANUAL
El próximo domingo (30 de marzo ), nuestra parroquia
comienza la Campaña Católica Anual de este año. Como
una gran familia católica, debemos compartir una
comprensión clara de nuestra participación en la vida de
la Iglesia aquí en la Diócesis de Brooklyn. Con esa
convicción en mente, les pedimos que reflexionen sobre
el tema de la Campaña Católica Anual de este año ,
Renovemos nuestra fe a través de actos de caridad .
Dando al llamamiento anual es un medio importante para
nosotros de servir como instrumentos de nuestro Señor ,
en nuestras casas, nuestros "nacionales" de la iglesia, y en
nuestras muchas parroquias vecinales, escuelas y
ministerios .
Esperamos y rezamos para que se le ofrecerá una
respuesta generosa a la Educación Católica, de Formación
de Fe , Servicios de Migración , Vocaciones , Caridades
Católicas -, así como nuestras comunidades parroquiales ,
al vivir el compromiso de apoyar a la familia diocesana
más amplio. En la Diócesis de Brooklyn , somos una
Iglesia unida como el Cuerpo de Cristo.
Tras una breve presentación en cada Misa , los ujieres
repartirán la " in - pew " tarjetas de compromiso de
condiciones. Le pedimos que se tome a su hogar y en
oración reflexionar en hacer una donación a la apelación
en nombre de nuestra parroquia. Por favor devuelva las

VIA CRUCIS LOS VIERNES DE CUARESMA
7:30 PM - ESPAÑOL - IGLESIA DE ARRIBA
SED
Cada vez que se lee el relato del Evangelio de hoy, no
puedo dejar de pensar en los muchos comerciales
televisivos que muestran atletas sudorosos llevando una
bebida a los labios mientras que el sol calcinante los
golpea. Nuestra cultura tiene ideas definidas sobre cómo
apagar la sed. Hoy, esas ideas son puestas cabeza abajo.
Al inicio, la samaritana opera al nivel del comercial de
televisión. Le pide agua viva a Jesús para no tener que
seguir viniendo al pozo. Es entonces que Jesús le habla
sobre la verdadera sed y cómo él, solo él, puede calmar
esa sed. La Cuaresma nos llama a encontrar esos lugares
muy dentro de nosotros donde estamos sedientos. En
nuestra sed, al igual que los israelitas, clamamos a Dios
pidiéndole fuentes de agua viva. Allá en el fondo sabemos
que solo el Señor puede satisfacer esa sed.
