To familiarise students with family-planning methods, preconception care, diagnostic
methods, and physiological and pathological pregnancies
To familiarise students with stages, mechanisms and courses of physiological and
pathological childbirth and puerperium
To familiarise students with the specific nature of taking care of full-term and premature
infants
To familiarise students with etiopathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnostic procedures and the
treatment of gynaecological disorders
To develop the ability to identify problems and the needs of patients, establishing cooperation
with their families and planning care for pregnant women, women in childbirth and in
puerperium, and for infants
To develop the ability to identify problems in and plan care for patients with gynaecological
and oncological disorders and to undertake educational measures in terms of prevention and
the early detection of neoplastic diseases and gynaecological disorders.
To introduce students to identifying, planning, addressing and recording health problems in
the course of caring for pregnant women, women in puerperium and infants.
To introduce students to identifying, planning, addressing and recording health problems in
the course of caring for patients with gynaecological disorders and diseases of the
reproductive organs.

Using the obtained intervention, diagnostic and nursing knowledge and skills and adapting
intervention techniques to real nursing conditions.
Entrance requirements in terms of knowledge, skills and other qualifications
Introductory courses - anatomy and physiology (particularly in terms of the reproductive system),
psychology, and health promotion.

Knows the organisation, work-specific issues, code of conduct and record-keeping policy in
maternity and gynaecological wards, recognises patient problems with hospitalisation, and
selects methods to communicate with patients and their relatives. Shows empathy in his/her
relations with patients, their families and medical staff.
Obtains, analyses and evaluates information on health and plans the nursing and treatment for
women in puerperium, new-borns, and patients in a gynaecological wards. Performs his/her
duties in a reliable and meticulous manner, while also respecting the dignity of patients, their
rights at the hospital and nurse-patient confidentiality.
Performs diagnostic, treatment and nursing procedures in accordance with the standards in
force in the maternity and gynaecological ward; keeps obstetrical and gynaecological records
and provides women in puerperium and patients with gynaecological issues, including
neoplastic diseases, with the necessary education. Shows sensitivity to health and social
problems of patients. Shows responsibility for the safety of patients and for the performance
of his/her tasks and is able to evaluate his/her nursing interventions to determine what needs
to be improved.
