Ethnologia Polona vol. 25: 2004: “The Role of the Bambers in the Economic and Cultural Life of Poznań in the 18th Through the 20th Centuries” by Agnieszka Szczepaniak-Kroll The Franconians who settled in several villages near Poznań (Luboń, Dębiec, Bonin, Rataje, Wilda, Jeżyce and Górczyn) most probably influenced their appearance, economy and social relations. Among other matters, they accelerated the introduction of the agricultural rent and introduced changes in the architectural style of buildings. Some elements of annual and family customs are also indicative of a Franconian origin. The Bambers contributed to the development of Poznań, and the process intensified after those villages were annexed by the city during the period of 1900-1925. The Bambers were known for thier hard work and piety which helped the to achieve a higher material and social status. They were never indifferent to the needs of the sick and the poor. They always valued education highly and were people of broad mental horizons. They also respected traditions and cultivated the memory of their ancestors. Because of that they have retained the knowledge of their roots despite the fact that they arrived in Poland several generations ago. It can be assumed that the Bambers contributed new elements to the history of the Great Poland (Wielkopolska) and helped to strenghten the positive traits of the population.
