Our Annual Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, November 22nd
& Sunday, November 23rd after all the masses in the Narthex of

have a Plant Sale combined with the Bake Sale. Please help us
make a successful sale, as this is our only CWC fundraiser for

From the Pastor’s desk…
Why do we commemorate the dead during the month of November? Abbot Odilo of the great French Abbey of
Cluny introduced the festival of All Souls in 998 for members of his own religious order. Later, in the 14th Century, All
Souls was adopted by Rome for the entire church. It is dedicated to the memory of all the faithful departed. All Saints
Day and All Souls Day set the tone for the month of November. All Souls are our family and relatives, our neighbors
and friends. Our prayers for the faithful departed increase faith and love within us; they draw us to look upon the Son
with ever greater longing.
In a very moving, personal reflection on his imminent death in 1996, the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of
Chicago wrote the book “The Gift of Peace” several weeks before going to God. At the end of his personal testament he
wrote: “Many people have asked me to tell them about heaven and the afterlife. I sometimes smile at the request because
I do not know any more than they do. Yet, when one young man asked if I looked forward to being united with God and
all those who have gone before me, I made a connection to something I said earlier in this book. The first time I traveled
with my mother and sister to my parents’ homeland of Tonadico di Primiero, in northern Italy, I felt as if I had been
there before. After years of looking through my mother’s photo albums, I knew the mountains, the land, the houses, the
people. As soon as we entered the valley, I said, “My God, I know this place. I am home.” Somehow I think crossing
from this life into eternal life will be similar. I will be home.”
Let us spend our earthly pilgrimage filling our minds with the thoughts of heaven, so that when we finally
cross over into eternal life, the images we see may not be foreign, startling or strange. Let us pray that we, too, may be
able to say: “My God, I know this place. I am home.”

Show me my Bethany, the good times I miss.
Show me how you wept with Martha, Mary, and now with me. Jesus, your love filled Lazarus with new life.
Show me N, my Lazarus, breathing deeply your risen life.
Show me N, my Lazarus, together with you, breathing your life into me.
Show me how each breath fills the empty places within myself.
Jesus you asked us to unbind Lazarus.
Show me how I can unbind N, my Lazarus, with forgiveness and love as deep as yours.
Show me how I am to let go and love others with this love.
And show me your dream to have us grow closer in your embrace now and forever.
First Friday of the Month Devotion – to honor The Sacred Heart of Jesus
The next First Friday Mass will be November 7th at 8:30 am in the Church. Confessions will be heard from 8:00am
in the Church. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place immediately following the 8:30am Mass. We will
pray the Litany of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus for new and holy vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Also
in the evening there will be opportunity for Confession from 6:00pm bilingual Confession and 7:00 pm Mass in Polish.

held Sunday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m. in the
church. A brunch for the confirmandi, their families,

Obchody Zaduszek zapoczątkował w 998 roku opat z Cluny, święty
Odilon, jako przeciwwagę dla pogańskich obrządków czczących zmarłych. W
Polsce tradycja Dnia Zadusznego zaczęła się tworzyć już w XII wieku, a z końcem
XV wieku była znana w całym kraju. W tym dniu Kościół modli się za wszystkich
zmarłych w intencji zbawienia dusz odbywających w czyśćcu pokutę. Istnienie
czyśćca Kościół ogłosił jako dogmat na soborze w Lyonie w 1274 roku; na XXV
sesji Soboru Trydenckiego (1545-1563) ogłoszono z kolei dekret, że duszom
przebywającym w czyśćcu można pomagać "zanosząc prośby przed tron Boży".
W dawnych czasach poprzez modlitwy i jałmużny rozdawane ubogim wierni
starali się nieść pomoc duszom cierpiącym w czyśćcu. Tradycje te przetrwały - w
formie rozdawnictwa chleba ubogim przed kościołami i cmentarzami w Dzień
Zaduszny - aż do XX wieku. Do dzisiaj przetrwał zwyczaj odwiedzania w tym
dniu grobów, zapalania lampek i świec. Zachował się też zwyczaj składania ofiary
na tzw. wypominki - imiona zmarłych wypisane na kartkach są odczytywane przez
kapłana w trakcie nabożeństw, a ich dusze polecane Bogu. Jako Chrześcijanie,
wierzymy w pomoc Duszom Zmarłych poprzez nasze modlitwy. Niech więc nie
zabraknie intencji Mszy Św. za naszych bliskich zmarłych, jako wyraz naszej
miłości, pamięci i wiary.

dorosłych, przygotowujące do Sakramentu Bierzmowania a także na katechezy dla
Dzieci Niepełnosprawnych. Prosimy o zgłoszenia do kancelarii parafialnej.
