243 SUMMARY Alexandrowicz Z., Miśkiewicz K. Geopark – from the concept to implementaon, with special reference to Poland The geopark is a form of protection and promotion of important geological objects testifying to the history of the Earth. The call to respect and preserve elements of the geological heritage was the widespread International Declaration of the Rights of the Memory of the Earth, enacted in 1991 during the 1st International Symposium on the Conservation of our Geological Heritage organized in Digne-les-Bains (France) by UNESCO. The geopark is a special area whose basic assumptions laid out by the organization during the period of 1997– –2001 are related to the strategy of sustainable social and economic development. Assistance in the creation of a network of European geoparks is provided also by the Council of Europe. The geopark has clearly defined borders and covers a large area and contains a number of sites creating a network with diverse geological and geomorphological values, important also in terms of ecological and cultural considerations. When properly managed, such areas offer great opportunities for research, popularisation of Earth sciences and education of the public. These are particularly useful for the development of geotourism. Local communities and local administration units participate in the creation and organization of particular geoparks and they are mainly responsible for environmental protection and spatial planning. As provided in UNESCO’s guidelines, geoparks established in particular countries vary in their rank. The basic form is the “National Geopark” seeking UNESCO’s assistance. Its implementation in accordance with the instructions provided by the institution may lead to the conferment of the “UNESCO Geopark” certificate, provided that the designated area includes geosites of extraordinary value. So far, the status has been awarded to 120 geoparks, including the German and Polish transboundary area of Muskau Arch Geopark (Table 1). The latest decisions taken during the UNESCO General Conference in Paris (November 2015) significantly increased the rank of the world’s geoparks by creating a special program (International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme – IGGP) and including them on the World Heritage List as UNESCO Global Geoparks after another verification. From among different European countries, Poland accepted the challenge of establishing geoparks relatively quickly. The first published and presented concepts related to the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and Muskau Arch, and further suggestions were presented during the international conference organized by the Polish Geological Institute and the PAS Institute of Nature Conservation in Kraków (2003). In 2009, the Landscape Park Muskau Arch was established as a national geopark. In 2003, the local Geopark Kielce was established by virtue of a resolution of the City Council in Kielce and in 2010, the Ministry of the Environment designated two other areas as national geoparks – Góra św. Anny [St. Anne Mountain] and the Karkonosze National Park with the buffer zone (Fig. 1). The list of designed geoparks contains 25 areas (Table 2, Fig. 1). It has been developed on the basis of previously published concepts and more or less detailed geological characteristics. In Poland, just as in other countries, the geopark is a form of protection of geological heritage, territorially covering mainly previously established areas or objects protected on the basis of the existing law on the nature protection. For this purpose, forms of protection covering large areas are suitable, especially landscape parks characterized by their great variety of geological forms and landforms. For the purpose of future functioning of the geopark, it is necessary to supplement this network to be representative of the geodiversity of the area. UNESCO recommends to establish proper conditions to legally regulate networks of geoparks in particular countries. This instruction urges Poland to consider various possibilities for the functioning of such areas, for instance using recommendations and certificates, superior decrees issued by local administration units, or legalization of the geopark as a form in the existing nature protection law. The last suggestion secures the continuity of the functioning of the geopark in the most effective way, while giving the proper meaning of this form in the overall system of nature conservation. In a broad, holistic sense, protection of the geological heritage diversity through the establishment of geoparks is necessary not only in relation to the events from the past of our planet, but also to contemporary, fast-progressing natural and anthropogenic changes in natural habitats. SUMMARY The Zaskalnik Waterfall is one of the two largest waterfalls in the Sądecki Beskid Mts. Since 1982 it has been legally protected as a nature monument, along with a 24 m section of a stream. This 4.5 m-high waterfall was formed on the Sopotnicki Stream in the village of Szczawnica-Sewerynówka (Figs 1, 2), on the southern slopes of Mt Radziejowa; geographical coordinates: N49°26′12.8′′ and E20°30′13.2′′. According to the geological division, it is located in the Outer Carpathians, in the Krynica Subunit of the Magura Nappe (Figs 2, 3). The waterfall is located at the contact zone of two rock formations. The uppermost part of the Zarzecze formation, represented by turbidite sandstones and shales, as well as thick-bedded sandstones of the Piwniczna Sandstone Member of the Magura formation are exposed within the waterfall’s limits (Figs 3, 4, 5). The lithological contrast of these formations and their sharp boundary contributed to the development of the morphological step and the exposure of the bedrock. The waterfall represents an obsequent channel form (2/D type) developed on the Piwniczna Sandstone Member thick-bedded complex with a 2 m deep evorsion kettle cut into distal turbidites of the Zarzecze formation (Fig. 1). The very good preservation of the outcrop allows detailed observations of the lithological boundary zone between the two formations, hence providing an exceptional educational value of the object. Diverse benthic and planktonic foraminifera occur in the upper part of the Zarzecze formation, which dates back to the late Ypresian (the Eocene). The identified semi-specific assemblage Bathysiphon-Paratrochamminoides-Recurvoides with numerous Glomospira (typical of the Early Eocene) as well as planktonic species – Subbotina linaperta Finlay, S. corpulenta Subbotina, S. eocaena Guembel and S. yeguaensis Weinzierl & Applin – occurs at the end of the Ypresian (Figs 6, 7). The Zaskalnik Waterfall represents a spectacular object of great aesthetic, educational and scientific values, recognised as an important geotourist geosite. ARTYKUŁY Chrońmy Przyr. W 1995 roku w Beskidzie Niskim utworzony został Magurski Park Narodowy (MPN) o powierzchni niemal 195 km2. SUMMARY In 1995, the Magura National Park was created in the Low Beskids Mts, covering nearly 195 km2. However, a small area characterized by high natural and cultural values remained outside the Magura National Park – i.e. part of a morphological threshold of the Low Beskids Mts. More than one hundred natural rock outcrops (tors and crags) occur in the area of 0.67 km2, some of which reach the height of over 15 m. Many sedimentary structures and diverse forms of microrelief are observed on the surface of crags. Furthermore, remains of two fortifications are located in the study area, one of which dates back to the early Middle Ages. The author of the presented paper proposes to establish a nature-landscape protected complex in this area, called “Skalne Zamki nad Mrukową”, and a few regulations aimed at preserving the aesthetic values of this exceptionally valuable fragment of the Low Beskids Mts. 269 ARTYKUŁY Chrońmy Przyr. Current status and changes ANDRZEJ DYLIK 85–435 Bydgoszcz, ul. Kotwicowa 15 e-mail: [email protected] Słowa kluczowe: monitoring ptaków, bydgoskie, liczebność, sukces lęgowy. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki inwentaryzacji gniazd bociana białego w powiecie bydgoskim w latach 2013 i 2014 oraz dane z lat wcześniejszych z części powiatu. Liczba par lęgowych (HPa) w latach 2013 i 2014 wynosiła 114 i 119, a zagęszczenie – odpowiednio 8,17 i 8,53 pary/100 km2. SUMMARY The study presents the results of the inventory of White Stork nests in the Bydgoszcz district carried out in 2013 and 2014 and data from the previous years from only a part of the district. The number of breeding pairs (HPa) in 2013 and 2014 was 114 and 119, and the density was 8.17 and 8.53 pairs/100 km2, respectively. The number of breeding pairs was lower than reported during the last inventory in 2004 covering the whole territory of Poland, but the analysis of data in well-investigated reference areas does not clearly confirm this trend. The proportion of pairs without raised young (%HPo) ranged from 8% (2014) to 23% (2012). The average number of raised young by a successful breeding pair (JZm) and by a breeding pair with an occupied nest (JZa) was 2.38 – 3.00 (on average 2.71) and 1.89 – 2.51 (on average 2.34), respectively. It was found that 92.4% of the nests were located on poles, mainly electricity pylons, 4.2% on chimneys, and 1.7% on roofs and 1.7% on trees. More than 84% of the occupied nests were located on poles with platforms. Dominują epifity i epility. Największe zróżnicowanie gatunków epifitycznych stwierdzono na korze brzozy Betula, dębu Quercus, topoli Populus i sosny Pinus. Stwierdzono kilka dość rzadkich i wymierających w skali kraju gatunków: wabnicę kielichowatą Pleurosticta cetabulum, szarzynkę skórzastą Parmelina tiliacea, odnożycę jesionową Ramalina fraxinea i brązowniczkę zielonawą Tuckermanopsis chlorophylla. Uzyskane wyniki stanowią przyczynek do poznania rozmieszczenia porostów na obszarze wschodniego Podlasia. SUMMARY The aim of this study was to investigate the species diversity of lichens in the old orthodox cemetery in Mostowlany (E Podlasie, NE Poland). In total, 58 species have been recorded. The attached list of identified taxa comprises six species protected in Poland, including two species under strict and four species under partial protection. The highest diversity of lichens was noted on the bark of native tree species: birch Betula (24 species), oak Quercus (14), poplar Populus (12). Six species are on the red list of threatened lichens in Poland, including 4 under a high-risk category (endangered and vulnerable taxa). There are Parmelina tiliacea, Pleurosticta acetabulum, Ramalina fraxinea and Tuckermanopsis chlorophylla. 297 ARTYKUŁY Chrońmy Przyr. Modliszkę stwierdzono na 16 stanowiskach związanych z siedliskami suchymi, tj. psammofilnymi, kserotermicznymi i ruderalnymi. Odnotowano również występowanie modliszki w terenach miejskich i zagrodach wiejskich. W okresie zbierania danych zauważono wzrost częstości obserwacji na znanych stanowiskach i zasiedlanie nowych. SUMMARY This paper presents data on the distribution of the European praying mantis in the Opole province (Southern Poland). The praying mantis has been observed in the region of Opole since 2010. Since then, the number of the species’ observations has rapidly increased, mainly in the central part of the province. The praying mantis is encountered mainly in ruderal habitats e.g. in an abandoned quarry in Gogolin. According to the author, accidental introductions of individuals or developmental forms of the species through major transportation routes, i.e. highways and railways, is very important in the spread of the species. It is not known from which direction the mantis arrived in the province and it has not been determined whether the established population comes from well-known sites of the species in Poland (Malopolska, Podkarpacie) or the southern Czech Republic. Changes in the species’ habitat are the major anthropogenic threats to the protection and further growth of the mantis population. Therefore, the habitats of the species should be preserved. Reclamation of quarries, buildings and ruderal sites may lead to the loss of valuable habitats of the species. 304 NOTATKI Chrońmy Przyr. SUMMARY A rare and endangered species – Praying Mantis Mantis religiosa L. – was observed at new sites near Karsznice and Bizoręda villages (the central part of Małopolska Upland; UTM: DB52; Fig. 1), in the areas adjacent to the valley of the Biała Nida. Single individuals were recorded in 2006–2015 at two sites in open habitats (forest roadside, potato cultivation and fallow). The newly discovered localities are among the current westernmost Polish records of the species. This may result from the expansion of the species in the north and west from its Polish refugium in the Sandomierz Basin (Liana 2007). Threats to the species include climatic fluctuations as well as afforestation of fallows and fields on poor podzolic soils. SUMMARY Angelica archangelica is a partly protected species in Poland. It occurs in two subspecies: archangelica, which grows in the mountain area and litoralis − on the Baltic coast. Due to its medical properties, the plants were often destroyed. In addition, the species is endangered due to its morphological similarity to the invasive species of Heracleum. Heracleum sosnowskyi and H. mantegazzianum can be very dangerous for humans and animals. The chemical substances secreted by plants may cause severe irritation of the skin and even the death of a burned person. Garden angelica is often confused with that species and mechanically destroyed by people. This situation was observed on the new, found in 2015, locality of A. archangelica in the village of Jarosławiec (Postomino district), e.g. in the BA 67 ATPOL square. This can have an effect on the number of localities of this species in the long term. 314
