Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This past year was particularly devastating for the Church in Latin
America.
Earthquakes in both Haiti and Chile
resulted in the loss of life for thousands of this region’s population.
Additionally, these natural disasters
caused unprecedented damage to
both physical structures and the
fragile resources of the Church and
its parishioners.
For the last forty-five years, contributions to the Collection
for the Church in Latin America have ensured that the people of South America and the Caribbean
experience the Lord’s love in the sacraments and in strong
local faith communities. The collection provides funding
for the formation of seminarians, religious and catechists,
as well as for pastoral ministries such as evangelization.
Obviously, it will take many years to rebuild the churches
and schools devastated in this region, but through your
generous support, the Church in Latin America will regain
her strong presence in the two hundred dioceses of the
Southern Hemisphere. Please know that I am grateful for
your support of your local parish, the Archdiocese and the
Universal Church. May God continue to bless you and
your loved ones in this New Year. You are in my prayers;
please keep me in yours.

The Baptism of the Lord
Matthew 3:13-17
The Spirit of God comes upon Jesus as he is baptized by
John.
Background on the Gospel
The baptism of Jesus is attested to in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The account that appears in Matthew
is the only one to include the dialogue between Jesus and
John, however. Another difference in Matthew's presentation
of this event is the announcement made by the voice from
heaven, which says, “This is my beloved son . . .” In Mark
and Luke, this voice addresses itself to Jesus: “You are my
beloved son . . .”
The baptisms that John performs prefigure Christian Baptism. John baptizes for repentance from sin. In accepting this
baptism, Jesus unites himself with all sinners even though he
is sinless. In Matthew's Gospel, John the Baptist distinguishes his practice of baptism from the Baptism that the
Messiah brings: “I am baptizing you with water . . . He will
baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11).
The baptism of Jesus is another manifestation of Christ, another epiphany. Christ's baptism inaugurates his mission. In
an analogous way, our Baptism inaugurates our mission as
Christians.
This Sunday marks a transition from the Christmas season to
Ordinary Time. In a way, today's feast is the high point of the
Christmas season. Before Jesus' birth, angels announced to
Mary and to Joseph who Jesus would be. At his birth, the
shepherds and the Magi recognize Jesus as the Messiah. At
his baptism, Jesus accepts that he is God's son and inaugurates that mission.

El Bautismo del Señor
"Apenas se bautizó Jesús, salió del agua y vio que el
Espíritu de Dios bajaba sobre Él."
En aquel tiempo, fue Jesús desde Galilea al Jordán y se presentó a Juan para que lo bautizara. Pero Juan intentaba disuadirle diciéndole: Soy yo el que necesita que tú me bautices, ¿y acudes a mi? Jesús le contestó: Déjalo ahora. Está
bien que cumplamos así todo lo que Dios quiere. Entonces
Juan se lo permitió. Apenas se bautizó Jesús, salió del agua;
se abrió el cielo y vio que el Espíritu de Dios bajaba como
una paloma y se posaba sobre él. Y vino una voz del cielo
que decía: Este es mi hijo, el amado, mi predilecto.

El bautismo para Jesús fue entrega, donación y un amor por el hombre que no conoció ni conoce límites. El bautismo fue su
entrega. Es su amor.
Nosotros, los cristianos, hemos recibido el
bautismo. El bautismo que hemos recibido
brota y nace del mismo Jesús. Hemos sido
bautizados en el nombre del Padre, del
Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Un bautismo con
agua limpia y abundante, porque nació y
brotó del mismo Jesús. ¡Que nuestro bautismo no se seque ni
se agoste! ¡Que sea respondido con nuestra vida de entrega,
servicio y donación de nosotros mismos en el corazón de la
Iglesia y del mundo! Estar bautizados es una tarea, un trabajo
y un compromiso. El verdadero bautismo es el que se vive
cada día. Nuestra verdadera partida de bautismo se da por el
compromiso vivido en la comunidad eclesial y testificando
nuestra condición de cristianos en la vida ública y social. El
agua de la fuente se pudre cuando no corre. ¡Cuánto bautismo
estancado y perdido por haber olvidado que somos hijos de
Dios!
YA VISTE LOS ANUNCIOS EN TV?
Durante el tiempo de Adviento y Navidad, la Arquidiócesis
de Chicago conjuntamente con las Diócesis de Joliet y
Rockford han lanzado una gran iniciativa de evangelización
llamada Católico Regresa A Casa. Esta iniciativa lanzo al
aire anuncios comerciales en televisión en las cadenas mas
grandes de la televisión en Español, Ingles y Polaco las
cuales continuaran en el aire hasta mediados de Enero
2011. Les invitamos a orar por aquellos que dejaron la iglesia e invitarlos a regresar a St. Mary of Czestochowa. Los
miembros de la parroquia pueden usar el panfleto como una
invitación a aquellos alejados de la practica de su fe.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
El año pasado fue particularmente devastador para la Iglesia en América Latina. Los terremotos en Haití y Chile
provocaron la pérdida de miles de vidas
de estas regiones. Además, estos desastres naturales causaron daños sin precedentes tanto a las estructuras físicas como a los frágiles recursos de la Iglesia y
de sus feligreses. Durante los últimos cuarenta y cinco años,
las contribuciones a la Colecta para la Iglesia en América
Latina han asegurado que el pueblo de América del Sur y del
Caribe experimente el amor del Señor en los sacramentos y
en fuertes comunidades de fe. Esta colecta proporciona financiamiento para la formación de los seminaristas, religiosos y catequistas, como así como para ministerios pastorales
como la evangelización. Obviamente, tomará muchos años
reconstruir las iglesias y las escuelas devastadas en esta región, pero a través de su generoso apoyo, la Iglesia en América Latina recuperará su fuerte presencia en las doscientos
diócesis del hemisferio sur.
Por favor, sepan que estoy agradecido por el apoyo que presta a su parroquia local, a la Arquidiócesis y a la Iglesia Universal. Que Dios siga bendiciéndolo, a usted y sus seres queridos, en este Año Nuevo. Siempre están en mis plegarias;

Święto Chrztu Pańskiego
Jezus przyszedł z Galilei nad Jordan do Jana, żeby
przyjąć chrzest od niego. Lecz Jan powstrzymywał
Go, mówiąc: To ja potrzebuję chrztu od Ciebie, a Ty
przychodzisz do mnie? Jezus mu odpowiedział: Pozwól teraz, bo tak godzi się nam wypełnić wszystko,
co sprawiedliwe. Wtedy Mu ustąpił. A gdy Jezus został ochrzczony, natychmiast wyszedł z wody. A oto
otworzyły Mu się niebiosa i ujrzał Ducha Bożego
zstępującego jak gołębicę i przychodzącego na Niego. A głos z nieba mówił: Ten jest mój Syn umiłowany, w którym mam upodobanie.

Święto Chrztu Pańskiego
Od uroczystego aktu
chrztu Chrystus rozpoczął
swoją misję nauczycielską,
którą św. Piotr, przygotowując do przyjęcia chrztu
rodzinę rzymskiego urzędnika Korneliusza, opisał w
następujących słowach:
"Znacie sprawę Jezusa z
Nazaretu, którego Bóg namaścił Duchem Świętym i
mocą. Przeszedł On dobrze czyniąc i uzdrawiając wszystkich, którzy byli
pod władzą diabła, dlatego że Bóg był z Nim" (Dz
10, 38). Jezus miał wtedy trzydzieści lat, gdyż dopiero od tego wieku zwyczaj żydowski pozwalał występować publicznie przed ludem i nauczać. Uważano,
że od trzydziestu lat rozpoczyna się pełnia dojrzałości męskiej. Mówimy o mężczyznach, gdyż kobiety
nigdy nie miały prawa zabierać głosu publicznie.
W tym wydarzeniu mamy też pierwsze w historii
świata pojawienie się w postaci widzialnej całej
Trójcy Świętej: Bóg Ojciec przemawia, Syn Boży
jest w postaci ludzkiej, a Duch Święty pojawia się
nad Nim w postaci gołębicy (epifania trynitarna).
Św. Jan Apostoł podaje nam miejsce, gdzie miał być
Pan Jezus ochrzczony: "Działo się to w Betanii po
drugiej stronie Jordanu, gdzie Pan udzielał chrztu" (J
1, 28). Jako dawną Betanię Zajordańską (była bowiem także Betania Przedjordańska ok. 3 km od Jerozolimy, gdzie mieszkał Łazarz z Marią i Martą)
wskazuje się dzisiejsze Chirbet el Medesz, gdzie
znajduje się potok, wpływający do Jordanu, mający
wodę nawet w upalne lata. Tu według biblistów miał
09 stycznia 2011 r.
się ukrywać kiedyś Eliasz. Tu osiemset lat po nim
miał wystąpić Jan Chrzciciel. W pobliżu Jordan jest
bardzo płytki, tak że tędy właśnie prowadził szlak ze
wschodu na zachód. Wykorzystał tę dogodną sytuację brodu św. Jan, aby zwiastować Mesjasza i przygotować na Jego przyjście serca ludzkie.
Święto Chrztu Pańskiego z jednej strony objawia
nam Jezusa jako umiłowanego Syna Bożego, posłanego przez Ojca w mocy Ducha Świętego dla zbawienia człowieka, z drugiej zaś strony kieruje uwagę
na rzeczywistość naszego chrztu. W tym sakramencie bowiem doświadczamy mocy zbawczej Chrystusa, która wyzwala z niewoli grzechów. Zostajemy
także napełnieni Duchem Świętym i w ten sposób
każdy z nas staje się umiłowanym dzieckiem Bożym.
Kościół obchodzi w ten sposób święto narodzin milionów swoich dzieci, którym dała nowe, Boże życie
woda Chrztu świętego. Istnieje nakaz liturgiczny,
aby w Wielką Sobotę wystroić chrzcielnicę i pokazać
ludowi jako kołyskę jego narodzin dla nieba. Z tej
okazji kapłan dokonuje wtedy uroczystego poświęcenia na oczach ludu wody chrzcielnej. Tego dnia powinno się udzielać chrztu wszystkim katechumenom,
którzy w czasie wielkanocnym mają otrzymać
Chrzest święty. Temu służy również publiczne odnowienie obietnic Chrztu świętego wszystkich wiernych, zebranych w kościele.
Wraz ze świętem Chrztu Chrystusa kończy się liturgicznie okres Bożego Narodzenia. W Polsce jednak
jest dawny zwyczaj kończenia tego czasu świętem

Czas Bożego Narodzenia to czas duszpasterskiego odwiedzania rodzin, popularnie zwany kolędą. Z tej też okazji zachęcamy rodziny do kontaktowania się z wybranym przez siebie

polska tradycja, która ma na celu bliższe poznanie parafian,
ich problemów oraz wspólną modlitwę z kapłanem w gronie
