St. Mary’s School News: Please join the school children on
Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the 8AM Mass. The school children
will highlight St. Stanislaus Kostka whose statue is on the left
side of the main altar.
Also, please join the school children on Thursday, May 28,
2009 at the 8AM Mass as they pray for and honor the teachers
and support staff of the school. A short ceremony will express a
sincere THANK YOU for their dedicated service to the school.
Operation Rice Bowl
Through the combined efforts of St. Mary’s School children and
the students in the Religious Education Program a total of
$931.71 was collected as a Lenten Mission Project. This
amount was sent to the Archdiocesan Catholic Relief Services.
This was a very successful project and we commend the students on a job well done to help the needy children of the world!
A Neighborhood Watch meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May
19th at 6:30 PM at Woodbine School. Everyone is invited to
participate in this meeting to discuss issues of concern in our
neighborhood.
Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass
The Family Ministries Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago is
sponsoring a GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS to
be held on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at St. John Brebeuf
Church in Niles.
Couples married in 1959 who are interested in attending this
celebration should contact their parish to register.
In order for the sponsors to have adequate time to prepare
the invitations, the deadline for notifying our parish office of
your intention to attend this celebration is May 29, 2009. After
that day, the couple can call directly at 312-534-8351 or you
can register online at www.familyministries.org.

Archbishop Cardinal George’s letter to our pastor regarding the
closing of St. Mary of Czestochowa School in its present format:

Dear Father Jaszczuk:
At our meeting on January 3, 2009 to review the progress of
Saint Mary of Czestochowa School, it was clear from the information presented that the challenges confronting St. Mary of
Czestochowa School as it is currently configured have become
insurmountable. I know that you, the Principal, School Board
and parents have been working hard to address these challenges. Unfortunately, however, parish finances make it impossible to continue St. Mary of Czestochowa as it is currently
constituted. As a result, I sincerely regret that it is necessary
that St. Mary of Czestochowa School cease operations in its
present format at the end of the current school year.
Nevertheless, I share the hope expressed by Sister Mary
Paul McCaughey, O.P. , Superintendent of Schools, that a new
model can be identified for St. Mary of Czestochowa School to
remain with a different arrangement as a service to the Church
in the neighborhood. I ask that you work with her and the Office of Catholic Schools to identify emerging new models for
learning and evangelization, including, but not limited to, a preschool program (with partial federal funding) building on the
fine pre-school that you already have, a Kindergarten, and an
inclusive education center for after school and weekends
(partially funded by grants) through Grade 3. The goal would
be that the parish would not have to contribute financially and
the school would be a break-even operation, paying utilities. It
would be good if such a plan, which is sustainable and meets
your needs, could be designed by the Office of Catholic
Schools with the input of your parish and school leaders and
yourself, by the end of this March.
Thank you for your love for the parish and your care of your
people. You will be in my prayers during this time of transition.

A SPECIAL CELEBRATION!........Because St. Mary of Czestochowa School, as we all knew it for decades, will cease to exist in
June of 2009, school closing procedures and special ceremonies
are being planned. Please save the date of WEDNESDAY, JUNE
3, 2009 at 7PM. to participate in a formal Mass of Celebration for
the 100+ years that the school served our parish and community.
After the Mass all will be invited to take a final walk through the
school classrooms, the library, etc. Refreshments will be served in
Makuch Hall. All alumni, faculty—past and present, children, parents, parishioners and friends are invited. Please spread the word
about this special celebration!
This is a very difficult time for all involved, and we ask your
prayers for the children and their parents and especially for the
faculty and staff who are greatly affected by the closing of the
school. We look to God’s Providence to guide us now and in the
days ahead.
We extend a heartfelt Thank You to everyone that supported our
school over the years, with your time, talent and treasure! May
God reward and bless you!
Sunday, May 17, 2009—The Word of the Lord:
First Reading: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48
“The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy
Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they
could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God.” Peter
traveled to the home of Cornelius with some of the circumcised believers from Joppa who were startled by the unexpected receptivity of
the Gentile converts. Peter, on the other hand, had received a premonition in a dream of unclean animals caught in a sheet and is not
as surprised, knowing that the power of the Holy Spirit has orchestrated this sudden growth among believers.
Second Reading: 1 Jn 4:7-10
“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God: everyone
who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without
love does not know God, for God is love.” In this last excerpt from
John’s letters, love is again presented as the keystone of Christian
belief. In our society love often signifies emotional attachment or a
romantic attraction toward another person, but here it is the moral
imperative that is life-giving for all that we do as followers of Jesus
Christ. It is never completely achieved but revealed in the service
and care of the community for each other.
Gospel: John 15: 9-17
“I have called you friends because I have told you everything I have
heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose
you and appointed you to go forth and bear fruit that will remain, so
that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.”
In his farewell discourse, Christ remembers to pray for his followers
who will no doubt be up against opposition as they live and spread
his Gospel message. Jesus prays three petitions here: one that his
followers live in loving communion with him, the Father, and the Spirit
(“Remain in my love.”) two: that the apostles continue to be “ joyful”
in their vocation; and three that the followers of Jesus always work as
friends of the Lord and not as slaves, bearing fruit “that will remain.”

Mes de mayo dedicado
a la Virgen María
La Iglesia dedica a la Virgen María el
mes de Mayo para conocer mejor sus
virtudes y amarla más. Son muchas las
virtudes de la Virgen y podemos aprovechar este mes para crecer en alguna de
ellas.
Se trata de que nos esforcemos por vivir
como hijos suyos. Esto significa:
• Mirar a María como a una madre: Platicarle todo lo
que nos pasa: lo bueno y lo malo. Saber acudir a ella
en todo momento.
• Demostrarle nuestro cariño: Hacer lo que ella espera
de nosotros y recordarla a lo largo del día.
• Confiar plenamente en ella: Todas las gracias que
Jesús nos da, pasan por las manos de María, y es ella
quien intercede ante su Hijo por nuestras dificultades.
• Imitar sus virtudes: Esta es la mejor manera de demostrarle nuestro amor.
• Rezar en familia las oraciones especialmente dedicadas a María especialmente el Santo Rosario.
Invitamos a participar en la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento. Cada Miércoles tenemos la Adoración
todo el día. Por eso les invitamos a
encontrar el tiempo para Cristo e
inscribirse para una o dos horas de
adoración. Pueden inscribirse en la
pizarra en la entrada de la iglesia.

El día 17 de mayo tiene sus cumpleaños
P. Zbigniew Pieñkos el Superior de los
Padres que trabajan en esta parroquia.
Felicidades a P. Zbigniew y que Dios le
bendiga todos los días de su vida.
El Rosario esta compuesto de dos elementos: oración mental y oración verbal.
En el Santo Rosario la oración mental no es otra cosa que la
meditación sobre los principales misterios o hechos de la
vida, muerte y gloria de Jesucristo y de su Santísima Madre.
La oración verbal consiste en recitar veinte decenas
(Rosario completo) o cinco decenas del Ave María, cada
decena encabezada por un Padre Nuestro, mientras meditamos sobre los misterios del Rosario.
La Santa Iglesia recibió el Rosario en su forma actual en el
año 1214 de una forma milagrosa: cuando la Virgen se apareciera a Santo Domingo y se lo entregara como un arma
poderosa para la conversión de los herejes y otros pecadores de esos tiempos. Desde entonces su devoción se propagó rápidamente alrededor del mundo con increíbles y milagrosos resultados

Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią
niedzielę miesiąca w naszej parafii
po Mszy św. o godz. 10.30 odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i chrzestnych do chrztu dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się na ten kurs
prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej
półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby uczestniczyć
w kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
dziecka.

Tak jak w każdą niedzielę tak również i dzisiaj wychodząc z kościoła
można nabyć nowy numer Tygodnika Katolickiego „Niedziela”.
Znajdziemy tam bardzo ciekawe
artykuły na temat życia kościoła w
Polsce także naszej Archidiecezji.
Czytając ten tygodnik a także inne
publikacje np.: „Różaniec”, „Anioł
stróż”, „Rodzina Radia Maryja” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę
oraz miłość do Boga i Kościoła.
