GREEN JAZDÓW. GREEN MARKET June 27 – September 14, 2014
GREEN JAZDÓW. GREEN MARKET June 27 – September 14, 2014 Inauguration: Friday, 27th June 27, 7.00 PM GREEN JAZDÓW is a summer project of the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle. This year the CCA will be hosting its third edition under the slogan “Green Jazdów. Green Market”. The main theme of the project is economy and its relationship with ecology. The organizers are hoping to familiarize the participants of the project with such notions as social and eco-economy, alternative currencies, economic utopias and anticonsumerism through various workshops, lectures as well as debates. This year's edition of Green Jazdow is accompanied by SLOW FUTURE – an international exhibition focusing on the subject of degrowth: a social movement which promotes the idea of lowering the levels of production and consumption. Degrowth followers, also called degrowthists, negate the superiority of material values and propose alternative economic barter models- cooperation, shared ownership and community exchange. The exhibition is curated by Jota Castro, a French-Peruvian artist and activist. It features the works of over 20 artists, most of whose works have never been presented before. The GREEN JAZDÓW space includes pavillions conjoining modern design with sustainable solutions. The pavillion designed by Rirkrit Tiravanija for the first edition of the project is now a permanent element of the capital’s summer landscape and serves as an outdoor cafe. The pavilion of 2013 was implemented by the Italian studio Avatar Architettura, which specializes in green architecture and uses innovative recycling techniques. This year, another structure appeared – “Różyc Bazaristan”, the reconstruction of Bazar Różycki, an existing market in the Old Praga district, designed by Aleksandra Wasilkowska. A fragment of the existing market has been reconstructed on the Ujazdowski Castle terrain and refers to the medieval relationship of the Castle and Borough, in which castles had many services and small trade. Visitors of the market, open on Saturdays and Sundays on the GREEN JAZDÓW terrain, can purchase organic vegetables, goat cheese, traditional Ukrainian fruit preserves, Maroccan olives, honey and herbal cosmetics. Part of the GREEN JAZDÓW project includes a series of lectures on alternative economic models that will take place on Fridays and Saturdays under the title “Holiday Economics”. Among the invited lecturers: Mary Mellor - the founder of Sustainable Cities Research Institute and World Economics Association; Tomáš Sedláček economist, writer and lecturer at the Charles University in Prague, former economic advisor to the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel, member of the National Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and Charles Eisenstein - postgrowth activist. There will also be lectures and debates with Joanna Erbel, Aleksander Cirlić, Maciej Szlinder, Arek Pasożyt, Agata Młodawska, Jarosław Lipszyc, Krzysztof Nawratek, Paweł Cywiński, Łukasz Nowacki, Brett Scott, Kuba Rok, Marcin Popkiewicz, Andrew Simms, Anna Coote and others. GREEN JAZDÓW is not just a space for debates around the most important subjects of our times. There are numerous events planned for every weekend from June 27th until September 14th – film screenings, concerts, theatre and culinary workshops, as well as literary meetings. The theme behind the film screenings in the series SUMMER.CINEMA 2014: LOW-BUDGET CINEMA is lowbudget cinema and its relationship with artistic quality and the life of filmworks in the viewers’ minds. The organizers are seeking answers to the question whether it is possible to make films for little money. They will also reflect on whether something like low-budget aesthetics exist, what is its presence in films, in the audiences' awareness and what is its relationship with the film industry. Screened films will include cult B movies, "scary" horrors with flying piranhas and post-apocalyptic motorcycle gang fights with titles like "Mad Max," "Night of the Living Dead," ”Eraserhead,” “Pink Flamingos,” ”Clerks., “The Toxic Avenger,” and“Enter The Dragon,” not to mention the first, low-budget films from renowned directors: James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and Darren Aronofsky . The abundant GREEN JAZDÓW programme also includes Intergenerational Culinary Workshops organized on Fridays by Zaczyn Foundation and Art Bistro Instalacje as well as Cooking and design workshops by the Kipi Kasza Collective. On Sundays there are yoga workshops conducted by the Wybieram Zdrowie Foundation. Sunday mornings are dedicated to “Literary Breakfasts”, which is a book club - type workshop during which the participants discuss how Polish and international literature faces the issues of ecology and economy. In the afternoons, children can join for communal fun during the “Teatranki – Natural Theatre. Theatrical Nature” workshops organized by GREEN JAZDÓW 's neigbor – Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute. All events occurring within the frame of GREEN JAZDÓW are free of charge. Workshop registration by e-mail: [email protected] For the duration of the “Green Jazdów. Green Market” project, the galleries inside the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle will remain open until 22.00 (Fridays and Saturdays).
