Jezus przyszedł – i niech zostanie
Im lepiej przeżyliśmy Adwent, tym radośniejsze
są dla nas obecne dni oktawy Narodzenia Pana
Jezusa, wraz z dzisiejszą Niedzielą Rodziny
Świętej. A więc Jezus-Zbawiciel przyszedł, narodził
się, jest z nami – i co dalej? Nasze życie musi być
dostosowane do tego faktu, do tej rzeczywistości. Nie
możemy żyć tak jak świat wokół nas, często ignorujący
Boga, udający, że sam sobie radzi i rozwiązuje
narastające problemy.
Po Soborze Watykańskim II Kościół chciał być bliżej
świata, być w świecie, nie odcinać się od niego, nie
tworzyć chrześcijańskiego getta. Niestety, często
przyniosło to jako skutek stanie się „jak świat”, czyli
zeświecczenie, sekularyzację. Być takimi samymi jak
reszta ludzi w świecie często w praktyce oznacza
niczym się nie wyróżniać, nie być już „światłem świata”
i „solą ziemi”, nadającą smak, ukazującą dążenia do
czegoś wyższego, co jest w stanie nie tylko
krótkotrwale
zaspokoić
przyziemne,
doraźne
pragnienia, ale odwieczną tęsknotę, którą każdy
prędzej czy później w swojej duszy odczuwa.
Może przychodzi teraz czas, by powiedzieć sobie: Dalej
tak nie możemy i nie chcemy! Non possumus! Tak,
jesteśmy w świecie, ale nie jesteśmy z tego świata;
przez chrzest staliśmy się obywatelami Królestwa
Bożego, przyjmując wszystkie tego korzyści, ale
i zobowiązania. Musimy mieć odwagę być inni,
wyróżniać się, często być mniejszością. To nie jest
łatwe, bo struktury państwowe i społeczne będą ciągle
próbowały nas ujednolicić, zlać w jednorodną „masę
narodową”, którą łatwiej jest rządzić. Wysiłek ten jest
zrozumiały w takim kraju, jak USA, złożonym z
emigrantów i ich potomków wywodzących się z
wszystkich możliwych kultur i tradycji świata. A jednak
my musimy być inni, proponować inny rodzaj i inne
źródło jedności narodowej i ponadnarodowej: jesteśmy
członkami jednej wielkiej światowej rodziny ludzkiej,
mającej jednego Stwórcę i Ojca, i jednego Zbawiciela.
„A tu już nie ma Greka ani Żyda, obrzezania ani
nieobrzezania,
barbarzyńcy,
Scyty,
niewolnika,
wolnego, lecz wszystkim we wszystkich jest
Chrystus.” (Kol 3,11).
Chrystus przyszedł – i niech zostanie z nami, w nas,
widoczny dla innych przez nas. Nie wstydźmy się
swoich zwyczajów, nie rezygnujmy z nich, nie
odżegnujmy od nich. Niech niedziela będzie niedzielą –
Dniem Pańskim, niech piątek będzie pamiątką
odkupieńczej śmierci na Krzyżu, niech kościół będzie
miejcem świętym, a nie salą spotkań i pogaduszek.
Bądźmy tym, kim jesteśmy – należący do Chrystusa!

Jesus Came – and Let Him Remain
The better we experienced Advent, the happier
are for us the current days in the octave of the
Nativity of the Lord Jesus, along with today's
Holy Family Sunday. And so, Jesus- Savior came,
was born, is with us – and what next? Our life
must adapt to this fact, to this reality. We cannot live
like the world around us, often ignoring God,
pretending, that one is managing and solving the
growing problems.
After the Second Vatican Council, the Church wanted
to be closer to the world, be in the world, not to be cut
off from it, not to create a Christian ghetto.
Unfortunately, it often materialized into “like the
world”, meaning laicization, secularization. To be the
same as the rest of the people in the world often in
practice means nothing distinguishable, to no longer be
"light of the world" and "salt of the earth", giving
flavor, showing the pursuit for something higher, which
is not only able to temporarily satisfy the mundane,
immediate desires, but the everlasting longing that
everyone feels in their soul sooner or later.
Maybe now comes the time to say to yourself: We
cannot go on like this and we do not want to! Non
possumus! (We cannot!) Yes, we are in the world, but
we are not of this world; through baptism we became
citizens of the Kingdom of God, with all the benefits,
but also all the obligations. We must have the courage
to be different, to stand out, often to be the minority.
It is not easy, because the governmental and societal
structures will continue to try to standardize us, to
merge us into a homogeneous "national mass", that it
is easier to govern. This effort is understandable in a
country like the United States, made up of immigrants
and their descendants coming from all possible cultures
and traditions of the world. And yet we must be
different, propose another kind and another source of
national and transnational unity: we are members of
one great world human family, having one Creator and
Father, and one Savior. "Here there is not Greek and
Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian,
Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all and in
all." (Colossians 3:11).
Christ came - and let Him remain with us, in us, visible
to others through us. Let us not be ashamed of our
customs, let us not give them up, let us not part from
them. Let Sunday be Sunday - the Lord's Day, let
Friday be the remembrance of the redeeming death on
the Cross, let the church be a holy place, and not a hall
for meetings and chatting. Let us be who we are belonging to Christ!

wish all our students a very merry Christmas and a happy
New Year! Classes will resume on Sunday, January 3,

December 28 - Feast of the Holy Innocents
On this day we remember those children who were
murdered at the orders of King Herod the Great, as it
is given to us by St. Matthew the Evangelist.
December 31 - Optional Memorial of St. Sylvester I
St. Sylvester I was born in the second half of the
third century in Rome. He died on December 31, 335.
January 1 - Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
The dogma of the divine maternity of Mary was
proclaimed at the Council of Ephesus (431), which
ended the dispute concerning the unity of the two
natures of Christ, and consequently the right to call
her Mary, Mother of God.

Members of the Living Rosary Circle
will pray a decade of the Rosary every
day in the following intentions of the
Holy Father for the month of January:
Universal: That sincere dialogue among men and
women of different faiths may produce the fruits of
peace and justice.
Evangelization: That by means of dialogue and fraternal
charity and with the grace of the Holy Spirit, Christians

January 1 - Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
This year we celebrate the solemnity on Friday. It is
a Holy Day of Obligation - which means every Catholic
must attend Mass on this day.
Masses will be said on Friday, January 1, at
9:00 am (English) and at 11:00 am (Polish).

This New Year's Eve, at the
turning of the year, you may catch
a glimpse of the old year, a
cartoon figure of a hunched old
man with a sickle, Father Time.
Where else but in this column
could you learn that this is in fact a
pope? December 31 was in the old
calendar the feast of St. Sylvester.
Legend says that Sylvester healed
the Emperor Constantine of leprosy, and presided at
the liturgy of baptism for the grateful emperor. In 314,
he was chosen pope, and it fell to him to organize the
peacetime church, free at last from persecution. He
founded the Lateran Basilica, the cathedral of the
Diocese of Rome.
In northern Europe "Sylvester Night" is a time of
great parties with eating, dancing, and singing-recalling perhaps the joy of the church in the fresh air
of Sylvester's papacy. In Poland, there was great fear
as the year 1000 approached that an immense dragon
would devour the earth and set fire to the heavens.
The people prayed earnestly to St. Sylvester, trusting
that the saint would not permit such suffering on his
feast day. They've been celebrating ever since!
Many New Year's customs have pagan roots, like the
British "First Footer" tradition. The idea is that the first
person setting foot into your house in the new year
determines the luck for the year ahead. The ideal first
footer was not a bit like old Pope Sylvester, but rather
a tall, dark-haired man carrying the right gift. A
handsome first footer meant the year ahead would be
pleasant, and if he carried bread or a shovel of coal
there would be food and warmth in the future. Who
will be your household's first footer?

KOLĘDA – Home Blessing
Traditionally, during the time after Christmas, the
pastoral visit of parishioner homes - kolęda - takes
place. It encompasses the parish priest meeting with
the entire family, blessing the home, reciting
communal prayers and the singing of Christmas carols.
Kolęda is the perfect occasion to get to know each
other, to share what we live out, and also to ask the
priest questions regarding the life of the Church and
the parish. To prepare for the pastoral visit, the table
should be covered with a white tablecloth and on top
of the table should be a cross, two lit candles and a
vessel containing holy water.
The pastoral visit is set up individually with the priest
by the family inviting him. If you would like to invite
Father Tomasz over to your home for kolęda, then
please fill out the short request form (green sheets
found in church) and return it by placing it in the
collection basket during Mass, or bringing it to the
sacristy or parish office. Father Tomasz will contact
you via telephone to set up a convenient date and
time to visit your home.

KOLĘDA - Błogosławienie domów
Tradycyjnie w okresie po Bożym Narodzeniu mają
miejsce duszpasterskie odwiedziny kolędowe.
Obejmują one spotkanie z całą rodziną,
pobłogosławienie naszych domów, wspólną modlitwę
i śpiew kolęd.
Kolęda jest okazją, by się nawzajem bliżej poznać,
podzielić tym, czym żyjemy, a także by zadać księdzu
pytania
dotyczące
życia
Kościoła
i
parafii.
Przygotowując
się
do
spotkania
kolędowego
nakrywamy stół białym obrusem i ustawiamy na nim
krzyż, zapalone świece i naczynie z wodą święconą.
Czas kolędy ustalany jest indywidualnie z każdą
rodziną zapraszającą kapłana. Prosimy o wypełnienie
krótkiego formularza zgłoszeniowego (dostępnego
w kościele - zielone kartki) i wrzucenie go do koszyka
ze składką lub dostarczenie do zakrystii czy biura
parafialnego. Ksiądz proboszcz skontaktuje się z nami
telefonicznie i ustali najbardziej dogodny dzień i porę
kolędy.

Bóg a codzienność
Syn Boży przyszedł na świat w rodzinie. Maryja,
która poczęła za sprawą Ducha Świętego, została
poślubiona przez Józefa, który podjął się misji opieki
nad Jezusem. Żyli tak jak wiele podobnych im rodzin,
zachowując przepisy prawa religijnego. Podobnie jak
inne dzieci, także Jezus został przez nich ofiarowany w
świątyni, a gdy miał dwanaście lat przybył z nimi do
Świątyni Jerozolimskiej. Próbował tam uświadomić im,
kim jest. Oni jednak przyzwyczaili się do zwykłego
rodzinnego życia i nie zrozumieli Jego słów. Bywa, że
czasem zapominamy o pewnych zobowiązaniach wobec
Stwórcy. Żyjemy rytmem dnia codziennego, a Bóg
wydaje się odległy od naszych spraw. Może warto dziś
postawić sobie pytanie: Czy nie postawiłem zbyt dużej
granicy pomiędzy moją codziennością, a tym, co Boże?
Powierzam Ci, Panie, wszystkie rodziny. Zwłaszcza
te, w których brakuje wiary w Boga i wzajemnej
miłości. Modlę się z dzieci z tych rodzin. Spraw, Panie,
aby odnalazły drogę do Ciebie.

Święto św. Młodzianków, męczenników
Wspominany w poniedziałek te dzieci, które zostały
zamordowane na rozkaz króla Heroda Wielkiego, jak
nam to podaje św. Mateusz Ewangelista.
Wspomnienie św. Sylwestra I, papieża
Św. Sylwester I urodził się w drugiej połowie III
wieku w Rzymie. Zmarł zaś 31 grudnia 335 r.
Uroczystość Świętej Bożej Rodzicielki Maryi
Dogmat Bożego macierzyństwa Maryi został ogłoszony
na Soborze Efeskim (431 r.), który zakończył spór
dotyczący jedności dwu natur Chrystusa i w konsekwencji
prawa Maryi do nazywania Jej Matką Boga.
W tym roku ta uroczystość przypada w piątek. Jest
to święto nakazane, tzn. obowiązuje nasz udział we
Mszy św. Rozkład Mszy św. w naszym kościele:
1 stycznia - 9.00 (po angielsku) i 11.00 (po polsku).
W dłoniach Maryi
Nowy Rok i nowy początek! Dlatego u progu tego
nowego czasu raz jeszcze przypatrujemy się
Dziecięciu! Ono jest znakiem nadziei, wszystko jeszcze
przed Nim, jest małe, kruche i potrzebujące. Podobnie
ten dany nam rok łaski, kolejny w naszym życiu.
Wszystko jeszcze przed nami i to wszystko należy
otoczyć troską, odpowiedzialnością, miłością, dobrocią.
Dlatego podążamy ku Świętej Bożej Rodzicielce, aby Ona
nauczyła nas troski o życie, i to ludzkie, i to Boże w nas!
Jezu, Ty z bezgraniczną ufnością złożyłeś samego
siebie w życiu i dłoniach Maryi. Ja także składam w Jej
matczynych dłoniach samego siebie i ten
rozpoczynający się rok.
Członkowie Żywego Różańca Świętego będą
odmawiać dziesiątki różańca w następnych
intencjach Ojca Świętego w styczniu:
Intencja ogólna: Aby szczery dialog między ludźmi
wyznającymi różne religie przyniósł owoce pokoju
i sprawiedliwości.
Intencja misyjna: Aby poprzez dialog i miłość
braterską, dzięki łasce Ducha Świętego, zostały
przezwyciężone podziały wśród chrześcijan.

obecności odkryją wielki skarb i tajemnicę cierpienia, które przyjmowane z miłością przyczynia się do zbawienia świata.
Otocz naszych chorych życzliwymi i dobrymi ludźmi oraz poślij do nich kapłanów, którzy pomogą im dojrzale przeżywać
