Przedimka nieokreślonego a/an używamy przed rzeczownikami:
policzalnymi (tymi, które dadzą się policzyd na sztuki): a table, a book, a chair, a wall ale
water, cheese, air, money
w liczbie pojedynczej: a table, a book, a chair, a wall ale tables, books, chairs, walls
nieokreślonymi (jeśli wspominam o czymś po raz pierwszy): This is a table. The table is mine.
jeżeli mówimy, że ktoś lub coś posiada jakąś cechę: It is a very interesting story.
jeżeli ktoś lub coś należy do jakiejś grupy osób lub rzeczy (np. nazwy zawodów): She is a
doctor. Her sister is a nurse.

Przedimka określonego the używamy:
kiedy wymieniamy daną osobę lub rzecz po raz kolejny lub kiedy wiadomo z kontekstu o kogo
lub o co chodzi: This is a table. The table is mine. / The book you finished reading last week is
very interesting.
kiedy mówimy o konkretnych osobach lub rzeczach: The girls at the busstop are 10 years old.
z przymiotnikami w stopniu najwyższym: This is the most interesting book I’ve ever read.
jeśli jest tylko jedna taka osoba lub rzecz: the president, the queen, the 1st of May 2009, the
Internet.
przed nazwami mórz i oceanów, rzek, pasm górskich, pustyo, grup wysp, instrumentów
muzycznych, kin, hoteli, teatrów itp.: the Baltic Sea, the Vistula (Wisła), the Alps, the gitar,
the Qubus Hotel.
przed porami dni: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, ale at night.
PRZEDIMEK NIE WYSTĘPUJE:
przed nazwami sportów: I play football.
przed nazwami własnymi: Tom lives in Gorzów in Poland. (z wyjątkiem the UK, the USA)
przed nazwami posiłków: I eat breakfast at 7 o’clock every day.
w niektórych wyrażeniach typu: He’s in hospital. She’s at home. Go to work.
przed nazwami miesięcy i dni tygodnia. on Monday, in June.
przed czymś o czym mówimy ogólnie nie precyzując, o którą rzecz lub osobę chodzi: Boys are
crazy. (Chłopcy (generalnie) są zwariowani.), ale The boys from my class are crazy. (Chłopcy z
mojej klasy (tylko tych określonych z mojej klasy mam na mysli) są zwariowani.)
