TODAY: The second collection will be for the Catholic
Campaign for Human Development. This collection
provides funding for groups that make lasting changes
and uplifts the poor in the United States through grants
to improve education, affordable housing, and more.

CHRISTMAS CARDS
Cards may be purchased in the
Sacristy after Mass. Proceeds
benefit the Altar Servers. Single English cards –
hand crafted $2.00 each, Boxes of Polish Christmas
cards $10.00 each, Also available are Polish CD’s
of Kolendy (Christmas Carols) at $10 each. Limited
numbers available of cards and CDs.
A CHRISTMAS CONTEST
Bon Venture, our bulletin provider, is sponsoring a
contest to create a bookmark from the Visit of the
Shepherds. There are categories from ages 3 to 17.
All entries must be received by 5:00 pm, Friday,
December 2, 2016. Mail all entries to Bon Venture
34 Ironia Road, Flanders, N.J. 07836. Forms with
instructions are on the bench at the side entrance of
the church.
ST. MARY-ST. MICHAEL SCHOOL
Tickets for the Snowflake Raffle to
benefit the school can still be obtained
by contacting the school office at 203735-6471. The first drawing will be
Thursday, December 1st. During the month of
December, there will be a daily $25 drawing, each
Friday a $50 drawing and on December 23 the final
drawing for $250. Calendars are $10 each. You have
several opportunities to win as winning tickets are
returned back for future drawings. (The parish office
has sold out of tickets).
Report Cards for the first trimester will be
issued on December 2.
A Shopping Spree for our students will be held on
Tuesday, December 6 during the school day. The
students will have an opportunity to purchase gifts
for their loved ones.
Save the date: annual Christmas Concert and living
Nativity, Tuesday, Dec. 13, 6 pm, St. Mary Church.

Baby gifts for Birthright… Gifts should be
wrapped or bagged with the tree tag or item label
attached. The tree will be up shortly and, once
again, Birthright is gratefully counting on us.
Coat donations: 61 coats were collected for “My
Sister’s Place” – thanks to all who donated!
The Jesse Tree Presentation by the 6th Grade class
will take place on Sunday, December 4 at the 10
o’clock mass. Readers will outline the symbol for
each ornament placed on the tree.
ALTAR SERVER MINISTRY
Fr. Jan is training new altar servers and
invites boys and girls of the parish to
contact him if they are interested in this
parish ministry.
This is a great
opportunity to serve the Lord and our
parish.
VISITS TO SHUT-INS
Shut-ins of the parish who are not able to get to
church can receive a visit from our Priest before
Christmas (those who are on the First Friday
visitation list are already included). Please call the
parish office as soon as possible to request a visit.

St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shoppe & Food Bank
237 Roosevelt Drive, Mondays through Saturdays,
9:30am – 2:30pm. Donations of non-perishable food
and turkey gift cards to local grocery stores will be
very much appreciated as the Christmas Season
approaches.

6:30pm, pasta dinner with salad, bread, dessert,

Polish Falcons Nest #208 yearly meeting will be
held on Sunday, December 11 at 1:00 pm followed
by the annual Christmas Pot Luck Party. For

12th annual Christmas exhibition prepared by the
Knights of Columbus, 1 State St., New Haven. The
exhibit opened Sat., Nov. 9 and features mangers
from Germany as well as many from the museum’s
collection. Also included are posters featuring the
museum’s “Fleeing Famine” exhibition when some
2 million people emigrated from Ireland. Open daily,

Vendors wanted for annual Christmas Fair at
Church of Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd.,
Seymour. The Fair is Sunday, Dec. 1, 8:00 am to
1:00 pm, sponsored by the Men’s Club. Limited food

The Vocation Office of the Diocese invites
everyone to come and pray for an increase of
vocations to the priesthood at three special Holy
Hours this winter, celebrated by Fr. Jeff Gubbiotti,
Vocation Director. A light “coffee-and” will follow.
The first one will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at
7:00 pm, St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue in
Hamden.

The “warm-winter” drive benefits the Salvation
Army Ansonia and St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop

St. Mary’s Church “Christmas Cookie Walk”

10:00 am until 1 pm, in the Church Hall.
ST. MICHAEL CEMETERY
Please note that winter decorations (no grave
blankets allowed) will be removed at the end of
February (weather permitting). Once again, please
be informed that any decorations, sanctuary lamps,
etc. are only to be placed in a 10-inch space from the
monument. This is important for the safety of our
workers. It is noted that some plots contain many
items that exceed this space. Your cooperation
would be greatly appreciated to help us maintain the
cemetery in a safe and respectable manner.

ADWENT (łac. adventus – przyjście) – w Kościołach chrześcijańskich okres trwający od I nieszporów czwartej z kolei poprzedzającej Święto Bożego Narodzenia niedzieli do zmierzchu 24 grudnia, okres przypominający oczekiwanie na powtórne przyjście Jezusa Chrystusa. Jednocześnie jest to czas poprzedzający pamiątkę pierwszego przyjścia – wcielenia, znanego pod nazwą narodzin Chrystusa. Na adwent składają się cztery niedziele adwentowe, w pierwszą z nich rozpoczyna się w Kościołach chrześcijańskich rok liturgiczny. Adwent to czas, w którym ewangelicy i katolicy mają uświadomić sobie, że oczekują na powtórne przyjście Jezusa Chrystusa. W okresie adwentu dominuje w liturgii kolor fioletowy. Kolorem tym w Kościołach ewangelickich nakrywa się ołtarz. W Kościele katolickim kapłan zakłada do mszy świętej ornat w kolorze fioletowym, symbolizującym czas pokuty i przygotowania się do jednego z najważniejszych świąt, czasu pojednania z Bogiem i ludźmi, a w III niedzielę różowy, który może być zastąpiony fioletowym. Tradycją w Kościele katolickim są odprawiane w tym okresie o świcie msze, zwane roratami. Są to msze ku czci Maryi Panny, na pamiątkę tego, że przyjęła nowinę od archanioła Gabriela, zwiastującego, iż zostanie Matką Syna Bożego. RORATY w każdą środę adwentu o godz. 19:00.
