Contemporary graphic art, untrammeled in its artistic aspirations and rooted in the range of classical
methods of graphic image realization, reaches also for new technologies of creation of artistic
message. The International Print Triennial in Kraków remains open to all tendencies occurring in
the contemporary graphic art and its aim is to present the fullest possible image of what is most
valuable and creative in contemporary world-wide graphic art.

…is the motto of this edition of MTG – Krakow 2012, International Print Network. It was conceived
in order to reflect on graphic art in the contemporary world, and its engagement in current thinking,
as well as artistic and social movements. Both general thoughts, and formal thoughts related directly
to the graphic arts are within the scope of the proposed idea/concept, but impact is more important
than historical distinctiveness. We are searching for a vibrant and responsive printmaking,
which generates insights into the contemporary world.
Competition guidelines
1. The International Print Triennial Kraków 2012 competition is of an open character, and covers
graphic art understood in a broad sense. Works created with classic graphic techniques, as well as with
the use of the newest digital technology, authorial methods of copy creation, mixed media works
and graphic installations may be submitted to the competition.
2. Artists from Poland and from across the world may take part in the competition.
3. Each artist may submit a maximum of 4 works to the competition.
4. Minimum size of the work (printed area): shorter side cannot be smaller than 30 cm.
5. Maximum size of the work (base): the longer side cannot exceed 150 cm.
6. Only works created within the years 2009-2011, not submitted to any other competitions and
not presented in exhibitions shall be accepted to the competition. Works that qualify for the program
exhibitions of MTG – Kraków 2012 and subsequent prints cannot be submitted and presented
simultaneously in other exhibitions and competitions until the opening day of the main exhibition of
MTG – Kraków 2012 that is until 14th September 2012.
7. The organizer may invite chosen artists, omitting the Jury stage, to the exhibitions of MTG – Kraków
2012, MTG “PrintArt” Katowice 2012, MTG – Oldenburg 2013, MTG – Vienna 2013 and MTG – Falun 2013.
8. The competition of MTG Kraków – 2012 takes place in two stages.
9. The submission of untypical and mixed media works shall include precise visual documentation, detailed dimensions and specification of the equipment necessary for the proper exposition of the work.
The maximum size of the work (basis): 150 x 150 cm (due to postal regulations the length of a piece of
mail may not exceed 150 cm).
The minimum size of the work (printed area): 30 x 30 cm.
Each artist entering the competition is obliged to confirm his/her copyrights to the submitted works
according to the pattern provided in an application form. Submission of works to the competition of
MTG – Kraków 2012 is tantamount to approval of all conditions of regulations of the competition.
The acceptance into the exhibitions of the International Print Triennial – Kraków 2012 constitutes
an agreement by the artists to:
a) exhibit his prints in one or more than one of the MTG exhibitions in Kraków, Katowice, Oldenburg,
Vienna and Falun.
b) entrust the works to the organizers until the end of May 2014 for their presentation in the program
exhibitions of MTG – Kraków 2012, as well as in exhibitions taking place after the competition, such
as re-expositions in other galleries, museums and exhibition spaces in Poland and abroad.
c) the publication of submitted and accepted works on TV, in the press, the Internet and any other media
as well as in other printed or recorded forms such as bulletins, catalogues, video, film and CD/DVD prepared
in order to promote the main exhibition and accompanying events. Reproduction may also be used by
the International Print Triennial Society in Kraków to promote activity stipulated in the Articles of Society.
d) processing personal details of the artist.
Entry fees
1. Stage I of the competition of the International Print Triennial – Kraków 2012 is free of charge.
2. Payment for Stage II of the International Print Triennial – Kraków 2012 is 150 PLN for artists from
Poland and 50 EUR for artists from abroad.
3. The fee shall be paid prior to the submission of works and not later than 30th April 2012:

Money should not be sent in letters or parcels.
We do not accept cheques.
General Organizer
If payment for the participation in the Stage II of the competition that should be received before 30th
April 2012 is missing, works will not be considered for the competition and will become the property
of the organizer, who may use them at his own discretion.

A maximum of 4 works in digital format should be sent, choosing one of the following methods:
• on CD/DVD, in TIFF format, with 300 dpi resolution, with the longer side of 20 cm + preview version
in JPG format, with 72 dpi resolution, with the longer side of 20 cm,
• by e-mail, JPG format, with 72 dpi resolution, with the longer side of 20 cm.
The above amount due constitutes the payment for the participation in the Stage II of the MTG –
Kraków 2012 and is not refunded when the works are not accepted for any of the exhibitions of
the MTG – Kraków 2012 program.

Each graphic file should include a description according to the following pattern: surname and name,
consecutive number of work, title, technique, dimension of the print (height x width in cm) e.g.:

These regulations specify the principles of selection and participation in the exhibitions of
the International Print Triennial Kraków 2012, Triennial “PrintArt” Kraków – Katowice 2012,
International Print Triennial Oldenburg 2013 and International Print Triennial Vienna 2013.
The files should be PC compatible.
The selection in Stage I is done by the independent Jury teams: MTG – Kraków 2012, MTG “PrintArt”
Katowice 2012, MTG – Oldenburg 2013, MTG – Vienna 2013 and MTG – Falun 2013.
The submissions for Stage I will not be returned.

International Print Triennial Kraków 2012

The International Print Triennial Society in Kraków, acting jointly with Horst-Janssen Museum
in Oldenburg and Künstlerhaus in Vienna, announces the next edition of the International Print
Triennial within the frames of the International Print Network program.
The International Print Triennial in Kraków is organized for the third time in the form of
exhibitions taking place successively in Poland (Kraków, Katowice), Germany (Oldenburg),
Austria (Vienna) and Sweden (Falun).
This organizational formula of the Triennial contributes to the better promotion of the contemporary world-wide graphic art and expresses its importance in the contemporary culture.
The International Print Triennial in Kraków is an open competition, accessible to artists creating
artistic prints, regardless of their age and applied graphic techniques. Independent International
Selection Jury makes a selection of works that will be exhibited in every or in some of the exhibitions within the frames of the International Print Network. Award Jury that will gather after
the final selection decides on awarding prizes.
The files should be sent between 1st September 2011 and 30th November 2011. The date of
the delivery of the submissions to the Organizer’s office is the deadline.

The artists qualified for Stage II of the competition shall be notified in writing. The list will also
be posted on the organizer’s Internet page: www.triennial.cracow.pl
Stage II of the competition of
MTG – Kraków 2012
The artists qualified for Stage II should send originals of the same works which were accepted by
the Jury in Stage I. Changing the work in any way as to its dimensions, technique etc. shall mean violation of the regulations and will not be considered.
The works shall be subject to the assessment of the international Jury teams: MTG – Kraków 2012, MTG
“PrintArt” Katowice 2012, MTG – Oldenburg 2013, MTG – Vienna 2013 and MTG – Falun 2013.
The decisions of the Selection Jury of Stage II and the Jury of Awards take place in Kraków.
The Selection Jury of Stage II comprises of independent teams appointed by the respective organizers:
MTG – Kraków 2012, MTG “PrintArt” Katowice 2012, MTG – Oldenburg 2013, MTG – Vienna 2013
and MTG – Falun 2013.
The international Award Jury shall choose the prizewinners of the competition from among works
of artists qualified for the main exhibition of MTG – Kraków 2012.
The prizewinners of the competition shall be notified in writing about the decision of the Jury.
The prizewinners of the competition shall be invited to the opening of the exhibition and
the presentation of the awards and accommodated for the time of the stay in Kraków at the expense of the organizer. The organizer covers the cost of the accommodation (a maximum of 3 nights at
a hotel). The organizer does not cover the travel expenses.

Jury and awards
The graphic works must be delivered to the Organizer’s address:

personally or by mail not later than 30th April 2012. The deadline is the date of the delivery of
the works to the Organizer’s office.
The works shall be sent within the set time together with a legibly filled-in application form.
The works should include a sticker, affixed on the back lower right corner, with legible descriptions.
In the case of works created in different media the description of the presentation and the video
documentation should be attached in accordance with the DVD standards. If the artist uses unusual
techniques, the artist is obliged to provide a detailed description of the methods used. A confirmation
of payment should be sent with the works by 30th April.
Untypical and intermedia works should be presented in the appropriate form during the debate of
Jury’s teams of the II Stage.
Only works properly protected and packed (e.g. strong, firm tubes, flat folders) shall be accepted.
Graphic works in heavy packaging, works in frames, glass, passe-partout should not be sent.
In justified cases works affixed on a lightweight base can be sent.
The organizers do not take responsibility for damages occurring during transportation of the works
or due to their defective packing by the sender.
Works which do not comply with the regulations of the competition shall not be accepted in
the competition. The artist may get the works back personally at his own expense. Artists who send
works to the competition of MTG – Kraków 2012 which do not comply which the regulations,
are not entitled to the refund of fees.
The organizer does not insure works for the time of transportation, exposition and storing.
The works are sent at the expense of the participants of the competition.
Artists selected for the exhibition shall be notified in writing.
Grand Prix – 15.000 PLN
The Mayor of the City of Kraków Award – 10.000 PLN
5 equal awards as per the regulations – 5.000 PLN
Sponsored awards
By the decision of the Jury the amount of prize money or the number of the awards may change.
The decisions of the Selection Jury and the Award Jury are final and are not subject to be appealed
against. Prize winning works presented at the main exhibition of MTG – Kraków 2012 become
the organizer’s property.
All participants of the exhibition receive a personal invitation for to the opening of the exhibition
and a free exhibition catalogue.
The organizers of the exhibition: MTG – Kraków 2012, MTG “PrintArt” Katowice 2012, MTG – Oldenburg 2013, MTG – Vienna 2013 and MTG – Falun 2013 may present the awards at their exhibitions.
Return of the works
1. Works complying with the regulations, but not qualified for the competition shall be returned
at the cost of the organizer in December 2012.
2. Works complying with the regulations, and taking part in the competition of MTG – Kraków 2012
shall be returned at the expense of the Organizer after the end of the exhibition cycle in June 2014.
3. The works shall be returned to the sender’s address provided in the application form.
4. The artists whose works are qualified for Stage II of the competition may donate their works to SMTG.
5. If the artist does not inform the Organizer in writing, by mail or e-mail, about any change of
address and the package with the works returns to the Organizer, then the new delivery shall be
possible only at the expense of the artist after previous covering of the shipping expenses.
6. The works which due to their size or weight cannot be resent by Polish Post must be collected
personally by the artist or we can send it by courier, prior to covering the shipment cost by the artist.
All works not collected by the artists by 30th June 2014 become the Organizer’s property who shall
use them at his own discretion.
