A new life
Chris Worthington, 14, swapped burgers and
chips for healthy food and lost fifteen kilograms.
W
hen he was eight years old, Chris’s
parents divorced and he went to live with
his grandmother. Chris was very depressed.
1
He ate all of his favourite foods, like chips,
cheeseburgers, pizza and cakes. Chris wasn’t
overweight when he went to live with his
grandmother, but that soon changed.
By the age of eleven, Chris weighed 70 kg. He was
overweight and he didn’t have any energy. When
he walked anywhere, his legs hurt. He wasn’t
getting any exercise at all and his grandmother
became very worried about him. 2 So she
started giving Chris healthier meals at home, but
he continued to eat junk food in fast food bars.
His grandmother then decided that that they
needed extra help.
She found a diet club near their home and they
gave him a special diet. 3 And he loved them.
Chris’s weight began to drop. He was just over
70 kg when he joined, but after a year he was
down to 55 kg.
Chris is now a new person. He feels much happier,
fitter and is more energetic.

Full English
Each nation has its dishes famous worldwide. The Spanish

for their paella, the Italians – for pizza and spaghetti.
What about the English? Well, the most famous dish in
Britain is probably the Full English Breakfast.
Its main 2 are fried or scrambled eggs with bacon,
sausages, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and mushrooms.
Most English people also have toast and orange marmalade.
English breakfast played a very important role in the past.
Then people did not often eat more than two meals a day. So
breakfast needed to provide people 3 carbohydrates and
proteins to keep them going all day.
So, next time you’re in England, make sure to order this
national favourite in a pub or a café. You 4 find it a bit
fatty and high in calories but it is absolutely delicious and
filling. Tasting it can really help to 5 out what traditional
English cuisine is all about.
