‘GRAVITY’ – A 2013 Hit
4.1. __
One of the hits of 2013 is ‘Gravity’ – a thriller which takes place in outer space. The film
tells the story of an astronaut who tries to return to Earth after a spaceship accident.
Unlike other films of this kind, in most scenes, ‘Gravity’ focuses only on one actor. This is
definitely something new for space drama.
4.2. __
The main character is played by Sandra Bullock and it is thanks to her acting that the film
has gained so many positive reviews. It has also been nominated for many different awards,
such as Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Film at various film award ceremonies. The
film has already won some awards, but it’s possible that there will be more in the future.
4.3. __
Like most science fiction films, this production was very expensive. Indeed, it cost $100
million to make! But paying this original price has been really worth it: the film has now
earned almost $650 million worldwide. This figure makes ‘Gravity’ the seventh best film
in terms of earnings for 2013.

Clara
Sandra
Dear Clara,
I’m writing to tell you about the job I’ve got for the summer. I’m going to work at a café here at the
university. I’m really happy about this, because I can meet some older students before I begin my studies
in October.
Anyway, I’m going to work from Monday to Friday between 7 am and 2 pm. My duties will be to make
coffee and to help the customers. I’m also going to prepare some special offers. Luckily, I won’t have to clean
anything. Maybe it’s not the best job ever, but at least I won’t be bored during the summer. I’m not going to
get paid a lot, but I hope I will get a bit extra money from the tips. I’m starting on Monday next week.
That’s all for now. I’ll let you know how I go on. Keep your fingers crossed!
Sandra

5.2. One of Sandra’s duties at work will be to clean the tables.
5.3. She has worked at the café since Monday.
