A Prayer for the Armed Forces
Almighty God, stretch forth Your mighty
arm to strengthen and protect the men and
women of our Armed Forces. As they face
the myriad of challenges and decisions that
each day is destined to bring, may they be
anchored by their faith, protected by Your presence and
comforted by the knowledge that they are loved by You
and by this community of faith. Grant that, meeting danger with courage, and all occasions with discipline and
loyalty, they may truly serve the cause of justice and
peace to the honor of your holy name, through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Amen
May God keep you safe!

Remember in Prayer
As members of the parish faith community, it is
our responsibility to remember both in concrete
and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with
us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in
turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their
sufferings. We experience many blessings because of
their remembering us. And so...please remember in your
prayers:

Give one, save three...Blood: The critical
Facts!
Every two seconds someone in the United States
needs blood—that’s about 38,000 red blood cell units
needed daily.
Almost 60 % of the American population is eligible
to give blood, but only 5 % does.
If all eligible donors gave blood at least twice each
year, there would be no seasonal blood shortages.
By donating one pint of blood, you can fulfill many
needs with this simple yet life-saving act.
Whole blood can be separated into three
components—red cells, platelets and plasma—
potentially saving the life of someone from a young
cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy to an injured
military soldier.
It’s never too late to give one of the world’s most
precious gifts.
Our parish spring blood drive will be on
SUNDAY, MAY 27TH
in Canning Hall.
If you can be a Blood Donor, please call the COR office
at 773/622-9732. Thank You!
Crowning of the Blessed Mother
The Ladies of St. Anne will meet Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Church for Crowning of the Blessed
Mother. The Crowning will be performed by Rose Clemente, assisted by Rita Erdmann and Violet DelVecchio. Regular meeting will follow in Canning Hall, where we will be celebrating all birthdays, with games
and other surprises.

From the Pastor:
Dear Parishioners,
Now that the weather is finally nice, we are motivated to spend more time outdoors. However please do not forget about our God, especially when planning our weekend trips. Always allow time to get to Church on Sunday. Not
long ago our Holy Father Benedict XVI addressed us and this concern in his Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis – Eucharist as the source and summit of the Church’s life and mission. I have included the script and would like
you to pay careful attention to his words.
“Conscious of this new vital principle which the Eucharist imparts to the Christian, the Synod Fathers reaffirmed the importance of the Sunday obligation for all the faithful, viewing it as a wellspring of authentic freedom enabling them to live each day in accordance with what they celebrated on ‘the Lord's Day.’ The life of faith is endangered
when we lose the desire to share in the celebration of the Eucharist and its commemoration of the paschal victory. Participating in the Sunday liturgical assembly with all our brothers and sisters, with whom we form one body in Jesus
Christ, is demanded by our Christian conscience and at the same time it forms that conscience. To lose a sense of Sunday as the Lord's Day, a day to be sanctified, is symptomatic of the loss of an authentic sense of Christian freedom, the
freedom of the children of God. Here some observations made by my venerable predecessor John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter Dies Domini continue to have great value. Speaking of the various dimensions of the Christian celebration of
Sunday, he said that it is Dies Domini with regard to the work of creation, Dies Christi as the day of the new creation
and the Risen Lord's gift of the Holy Spirit, Dies Ecclesiae as the day on which the Christian community gathers for the
celebration, and Dies hominis as the day of joy, rest and fraternal charity.
Sunday thus appears as the primordial holy day, when all believers, wherever they are found, can become heralds and guardians of the true meaning of time. It gives rise to the Christian meaning of life and a new way of experiencing time, relationships, work, life and death. On the Lord's Day, then, it is fitting that Church groups should organize,
around Sunday Mass, the activities of the Christian community: social gatherings, programs for the faith formation of
children, young people and adults, pilgrimages, charitable works, and different moments of prayer. For the sake of these
important values – while recognizing that Saturday evening, beginning with First Vespers, is already a part of Sunday
and a time when the Sunday obligation can be fulfilled – we need to remember that it is Sunday itself that is meant to be
kept holy, lest it end up as a day ‘empty of God’.”
Please take the Holy Father’s words as a motivation to keep the religious character of each Sunday.
I wish you a blessed week.

In honor of saving our planet, St. Ferdinand Parish and School has started a paper
recicling program. The recicling helps teach and promote environmental stewardship
and awareness, and raises funds for our school and church. Help us save our planet by
recycling: magazines, catalogs, newspapers, mail, office paper and paperback books. A
large collection bin is located in the parking lot and is available 24 hours for drop-offs.
Please do not put cardboard or phonebooks in there! Thank you!

Roses to those on the Way of the Cross
It remains our sincere hope that through word and deed,
education and example, we young and old one heritage or
another, would all come to know that our care for Our
Church — His really, is done through small and not so
small gestures of help and support. As a source of hope
and inspiration it is our intention to publish those names
in print who have done outstanding work in the course of
the week to “plant a rose” so to speak along the way as
we carry the cross in the glory of the victory “He” won.
Our part though small can and does grow. We might need
to see the proof. The names are both a thank you and attempt to have lots of roses where ever “the cross” is.

Słowo od Proboszcza
Drodzy Parafianie,
zapominajcie o uczestniczeniu we Mszy św. W ostatnim czasie Ojciec Święty Benedykt XVI wydał Adhortację
Apostolską Sacramentum Caritatis – o Eucharystii, źródle życia i misji Kościoła. M.in. Papież przypomina w tym
dokumencie o obowiązek świętowania niedzieli. Pisze on, że: „Ojcowie synodalni, świadomi nowej zasady życiowej,
