Stewardship Note: “Here I am!’ he answered.” It is easy to
say, “Here I am, Lord” when we are kneeling in church. Can
we just as easily answer, “Here I am, Lord,” when we go home,
when a neighbor needs our help, when a fellow parishioner asks
us to join a committee, or when a letter asks for our financial
help? These are often exactly the places where Jesus calls us to
be.
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
March 4, 2012
If God is for us, who can be against us?
-Romans 8:31b
The first reading today continues the “history of salvation”
narrative that we hear throughout Lent this year. Today’s story
was among the best-loved in the Jewish tradition (surely Joseph
told the story to young Jesus as he formed him in the ways of
their faith); the early fathers of the Church were very fond of it
as a means of explaining the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
The overall tone of the first reading, psalm, and second reading
seems a little incongruous with the dazzling Gospel, until we
remember that the Transfiguration was placed as the Gospel for
this Sunday precisely to remind us of the glory that awaits
those who live faithfully and obediently to the will of God. In
the life of Jesus, it is a preview of the glory of his resurrection;
for us it is a glimpse of the destiny of those who continue, as
we heard in last week’s Gospel, to repent and believe in the
Good News.

John Paul II, this year’s patron of the annual Partners in Charity Appeal, reflect his compassion, self-sacrifice and generosity
to others. Your gift to the Appeal this year will provide assistance for the poor, the sick, the young, the aged, the disabled,
families in crisis and many thousands more. Please reflect on
the blessings you have received from God as you contemplate a
pledged gift to the Partners in Charity Appeal on Pledge
weekend, March 16-17 just two weeks from now. Blessed John

PARISH SPONSORED SOUP KITCHEN FOR THE NEEDY- A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who
worked, baked desserts and donated in any way to the success of our first soup kitchen lunch. It was a mixed group of volunteers
from the Jubilee Committee and their children, Parish Council, CCD students, parishioners and friends. The people we served said
the food was delicious. It was a gratifying experience. Our next luncheon is scheduled for Sat., Mar. 24th. We will be looking for
volunteers again and perhaps new people will join us. Thank you once again for answering our call to help. You were awesome!

REFLECTION
Blessed are those who listen to the word of God and keep
it—Luke 11:28. There is a long tradition in this parish on listening to the word of God. During the last 125 years, many
people trod through this parish who listened to the Word of God
from priests and missionaries. The succeeding generations
were transmitting the Word of God to their children and that
seed of the gospel message brought abundant fruit by producing
over 40 vocations to the Order of Felician Sisters and over 20
Roman Catholic Priests.
Our present generation, in our Jubilee Year, is part of this
long tradition of listening to the Word of God who became
flesh and has been with us and challenges us to produce the
fruits of our spirituality. As I reflect on the accomplishments of
our forefathers, I am impressed by their spirit of sacrifice, vision, loyalty to the Church and strong family ties. It seems that
this comfortable culture of ours makes it more difficult for us to
give up things than for our forefathers who lived in deprivation.
In all of our practices, we could ask the question, “Are we doing something to get closer to God or are we always looking for
the easiest way for me personally”? The Lenten Season presents the opportunity to discern various options to practice self
discipline, go beyond mere intentions and break the cycle of
comfortable living to which we became accustomed over the
years.
This blessed season of Lent, is a time of transformation, time
of change and conversion. Perhaps we can do something that
would be more difficult for us. Something we resist and don’t
like to do e.g., visiting the sick, providing to those who need
our assistance, giving alms, supporting the Church etc. Our
upcoming retreat is an excellent occasion to reflect on these
topics. “Blessed are those who listen to the word of God and
keep it.”

It is important that we continue to keep our parishioners apprised of developments as they occur and the bishops urge us to
contact our legislators to support the Respect for Rights of

Basilica have information on how to contact your legislators.
125TH JUBILEE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
During the month of February parishioners contributed $3126

Na Górze Przemienienia Bóg jeszcze raz objawił miłość ojcowską wobec swego jedynego Syna. Jezus jednak nawet
wówczas, gdy ukazał uczniom swoją Boską chwałę, przygotowywał się na niewymowne cierpienie dla zbawienia człowieka

PARTNERS I CHARITY
Tegoroczna akcja charytatywna „Partners in Charity” odbywa
się pod hasłem: Otwórzcie szeroko drzwi Chrystusowi”. Słowa
te zostały wypowiedziane przez błogosławionego papieża Jana
Pawła II i są zachętą do otwartości na drugiego człowieka poprzez współczucie, poświęcenie i szczodrobliwość.
Ofiary składane w tym roku będą przeznaczone dla biednych,
chorych, a także potrzebujących młodych i starszych oraz dla
rodzin znajdujących się w potrzebie z powodu narastającego
kryzysu. Zobowiązania będą przyjmowane w weekend 16-17
marca. Przed złoceniem ofiary podejmijmy jednak refleksje nad
tym jak wiele otrzymujemy od Boga i jak bardzo możemy pomóc innym czerpiąc z tego, co posiadamy. Nie zapominajmy
jednocześnie o modlitwie za wstawiennictwem bł. Jana Pawła
II w intencji wszystkich, którzy są w potrzebie. Bóg zapłać za
