Association of “Children of the Holocaust” in Poland is a non-profit
organization whose purposes of activity are: preserving the memory of the Shoah,
fighting against the anti-Semitism and xenophobia and carrying out the
educational program on the Holocaust. Among us are the last eye-witnesses of the
crimes committed against the Jewish people, so their recollections represent a
priceless document of those terrible times. Our association has already published
five successive volumes of memories of our members, Jews who in 1940 – 1945
were children and who were in ghettos, concentration camps and in hiding.
The donations and grants that we have received up till now have enabled us to
publish only Polish editions of these books. For these unique and important
memoirs to be available to a wider audience the English editions are needed.
The fact that the books are only in Polish significantly restricts their accessibility
to Polish speaking readers. The contemporary generations, especially outside
Poland, even do not know what the Holocaust was or know about it very little. The
shortage of knowledge about such cruel period of history can create favorable
conditions for revival of the fascist ideology. The power of those books lies in the
fact that they are not fiction but documentary reflection of the real life-stories.
It is important that content of the memoirs could reach the wider audience from
outside the Polish language area.
The cost of translating and printing of one volume is approximately PLN 75.000
($ 25.000, € 18.500). We do not have the funds available for this, nor are we are
able to obtain it from Polish sponsors. It is why we are asking you about the help.
Please, contribute to our translation project. It will enable us to disseminate
the understanding of the Holocaust all over the world.
