give his life as a ransom for many.” (MARK 10:45)
Jesus came on this earth to serve. Anyone who wishes to follow Him
must also be willing to give time, talent and treasure to serve God’s
people, just as Jesus gave His very life for us. True disciples are
true stewards, giving service and sacrifice, just as Jesus taught us to
do.

Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 10:35-45 (shorter form Mark 10:42-45)
Jesus teaches that those who wish to be great must be the servant of all.
Background on the Gospel Reading
In this Sunday's Gospel, we continue to read from the section of
Mark's Gospel that reports Jesus' journey to Jerusalem. Last
Sunday we heard Jesus lament the particular challenges those
with many possessions face in order to enter the Kingdom of
God. Jesus then predicts his passion to the Twelve, who are
amazed and afraid. In this part of Mark's Gospel, Jesus' words to
his closest disciples seem to be intended to prepare them for the
events that will occur in Jerusalem.
In today's Gospel, James and John ask to be given seats of
honor when Jesus enters into his glory. Once again, the disciples
seem to be selective in what they hear Jesus say. They want to
share Jesus' glory, but do not appear to understand that his glory
will be preceded by his suffering. Jesus notes their lack of understanding and predicts the suffering they will endure for the sake
of the Gospel. Jesus says that the honor they seek is not his to
give. When the other ten hear what James and John have asked,
Mark reports that they are indignant. Jesus takes the opportunity
to teach them.
Jesus explains the importance of service and sacrifice in the life
of a disciple. In particular, he seems to be preparing the Twelve
for their leadership roles in the emerging Christian community.
Echoing the Gospel we heard several weeks ago (on the 25th
Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mark 9:33-37), Jesus acknowledges
that his teaching is countercultural. In today's Gospel, Jesus contrasts the dynamics within the community of disciples with those
shown by the rulers of the Gentiles.
Following Jesus' example of sacrificial love continues to be countercultural in our day as well. We might take this opportunity to
consider our models of authority and examine our own exercise
of authority. On whose example do we model our leadership?

All three of today’s readings remind us to never become
too comfortable in identifying oneself as a victim. Jesus, in his sacrifice on the cross, was God’s perfect victim for all of humanity, destroying sin and redeeming
us through his death and resurrection.
When I approach the altar and consume Jesus’ broken body, am I truly aware of the
tremendous sacrifice he made for me on the
cross?

VIDEO CONTEST FOR CATHOLIC TEENS ANNOUNCED
Prizes Totaling $17,000 to be Awarded in Year of Sunday Mass –
Be a Digital Disciple Contest Chicago, IL (October 10, 2012) –
The Archdiocese of Chicago has announced a video contest for
Catholic teens as part of the ongoing emphasis on the Year of
Sunday Mass. All Catholic high school students from Archdiocesan parishes in Cook and Lake counties are invited to show witness to their faith by creating an original, two-minute video about
the importance of Sunday Mass. Prizes will be awarded for first,
second and third place entries. Original videos submitted as a
DVD, may be created and produced by one individual or by a
team of teens who agree to share the award money. A matching
award will also be given to the Catholic parish, Catholic school or
Catholic Church charitable organization designated by the winners.
The first prize winner and designated organization will each receive $5,000; second prize is $2,500 and third prize is $1,000.
The video contest is being co-sponsored by Mercy Home for
Boys and Girls.
Contest participants will be asked to participate in a small-group
reflection process called Circles of Witness for Teens, create and
produce a two-minute video, show the video to other teens and
gather feedback and submit the completed entry form and DVD
to the Archdiocese. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 5 p.m.

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús los hijos del Zebedeo, Santiago y Juan, y le dijeron. Maestro, queremos que
hagas lo que te vamos a pedir. Les preguntó: ¿Qué queréis
que haga por vosotros? Contestaron: Concédenos sentarnos en tu gloria uno a tu derecha y otro a tu izquierda. Jesús replicó: No sabéis lo que pedís, ¿sois capaces de beber
el cáliz que yo he de beber o de bautizaros con el bautismo
que yo me voy a bautizar? Contestaron: Lo somos. Jesús
les dijo: El cáliz que yo voy a beber lo beberéis, y os bautizareis con el bautismo con que yo me voy a bautizar, pero
el sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda, no me toca a mí
concederlo; está ya reservado. Los otros diez al oír aquello,
se indignaron contra Santiago y Juan. Jesús reuniéndoles,
les dijo: Sabéis que los que son reconocidos como jefes de
los pueblos los tiranizan, y que los grandes les oprimen.
Vosotros nada de eso: el que quiera ser grande, sea vuestro servidor; y el que quiera ser el primero, sea esclavo de
todos. Porque el Hijo del Hombre no ha venido para que le
sirvan, sino para servir y dar su vida en rescate por todos.

Las tres lecturas de hoy nos recuerdan que nunca se debe ser demasiado cómodo en identificarse como una víctima. Jesús, en su
sacrificio en la Cruz, era la víctima perfecta de Dios para toda la
humanidad, destruyendo el pecado y siendo nuestro
redentor a través de su muerte y resurrección.
¿Cuando nos acercamos al altar a consumir el cuerpo de Jesús, estoy verdaderamente consciente del
gran sacrificio que hizo por mí en la Cruz?

Jakub i Jan synowie Zebedeusza zbliżyli się do Jezusa i
rzekli: Nauczycielu, chcemy, żebyś nam uczynił to, o co
Cię poprosimy. On ich zapytał: Co chcecie, żebym wam
uczynił? Rzekli Mu: Daj nam, żebyśmy w Twojej chwale
siedzieli jeden po prawej, drugi po lewej Twej stronie.
Jezus im odparł: Nie wiecie, o co prosicie. Czy możecie
pić kielich, który Ja mam pić, albo przyjąć chrzest, którym Ja mam być ochrzczony? Odpowiedzieli Mu: Możemy. Lecz Jezus rzekł do nich: Kielich, który Ja mam pić,
pić będziecie; i chrzest, który Ja mam przyjąć, wy również przyjmiecie. Nie do Mnie jednak należy dać miejsce
po mojej stronie prawej lub lewej, ale [dostanie się ono]
tym, dla których zostało przygotowane. Gdy dziesięciu
[pozostałych] to usłyszało, poczęli oburzać się na Jakuba i
Jana. A Jezus przywołał ich do siebie i rzekł do nich:
Wiecie, że ci, którzy uchodzą za władców narodów, uciskają je, a ich wielcy dają im odczuć swą władzę. Nie tak
będzie między wami. Lecz kto by między wami chciał się
stać wielkim, niech będzie sługą waszym. A kto by chciał
być pierwszym między wami, niech będzie niewolnikiem
wszystkich. Bo i Syn Człowieczy nie przyszedł, aby Mu
służono, lecz żeby służyć i dać swoje życie na okup za
wielu.

Wszystkie dzisiejsze czytania przypominają nam, by
porównywanie się do “ofiary”, nigdy nie przychodziło nam zbyt
łatwo. Jezus, przyjmując na Siebie krzyż, był jedyną ofiarą “bez
skazy”, wybraną przez samego Boga Ojca, a poświęconą za
grzechy całej ludzkości. Ofiarą, która miała zgładzić grzech i
odkupić nas poprzez Swą śmierć i zmartwychwstanie.
Czy podchodząc do ołtarza, aby przyjąć połamane Ciało Jezusa
w Komunii Świętej, jestem świadomy/a ogromnej ceny, którą On
zapłacił za mnie, oddając Swe życie na drzewie krzyża?
Czym jest modlitwa
Modlitwa jest to otwarcie się człowieka na Boga.
Modlitwa jest tym lepsza, im głębsza jest nasza
wiara: im lepsze jest nasze życie - pełne zaufania
Opatrzności Bożej, Jego Miłości i Miłosierdziu,
pełne służby bezinteresownej bliźniemu. Ale z
drugiej strony, aby życie było dobre, potrzebna jest
człowiekowi dobra modlitwa. Bez niej coraz mniej
stać człowieka na prawdziwą miłość. Jezus sam często się modlił i
podkreślał wielokrotnie, że modlitwa jest każdemu człowiekowi
nieodzownie potrzebna. Każda modlitwa powinna być dla człowieka uciszeniem, uspokojeniem przed Bogiem. Powinna być spojrzeniem pełnym zachwytu dla Jego piękna, miłości, potęgi i mądrości. Może to być nasze otworzenie się na Boga wtedy, gdy
przerażeni, zmartwieni, przygnębieni, zatroskani prosimy Go gorąco o spełnienie czegoś, co jest dla nas bardzo ważne, na czym
nam bardzo zależy. I prosimy Go o ratunek, o ochronę, o zdrowie,
pracę, egzamin, życie domowe - to mogą być nasze problemy
albo problemy naszych najbliższych. Może to być otworzenie się
na Boga, gdy radośni dziękujemy za otrzymane łaski, za spełnione
nasze prośby i błagania, za pomoc i opiekę, za osiągnięcia i uratowanie od nieszczęścia. Albo gdy jeszcze oszołomieni Jego mądrością, potęgą, pięknem, wspaniałomyślnością, która choćby na
moment nam się odkryła, mówimy Mu słowa naszego uwielbienia.
Albo gdy pełni skruchy, pokory, żalu i gotowi do zadośćuczynienia
przepraszamy Go, żeśmy od Niego odeszli, że życie nasze nie
było zgodne z Jego wolą, żeśmy dopuścili się krzywdy przeciwko
ludziom. Wtedy modlitwa jest również spojrzeniem na siebie Jego
oczami, aktem samokontroli. I tak modlitwy możemy podzielić na:
uwielbienia, przeproszenia, dziękczynienia i prośby. Każda angażuje całego człowieka: jego uczucia i wolę, nie jest wyłącznie aktem intelektualnym. Modlitwa ma rozmaite formy. Może być prywatna - osobista i publiczna społeczna. Każda modlitwa
chrześcijanina - nie tylko społeczna, ale nawet najbardziej
prywatna - nie jest prywatna w
sensie świeckim. Modlimy się do
Ojca z Chrystusem - to Chrystus
modli się z nami do swojego Ojca.

Czuwanie nocne
W najbliższą sobotę, 27 października odbędzie się jak
co miesiąc czuwanie nocne w naszym kościele Matki
Bożej Częstochowskiej. Rozpoczęcie czuwania o
godz. 6:30 wieczorem Nowenną i Mszą św.. W programie czuwania m.in. nabożeństwo Drogi Krzyżowej,
Różaniec. Podczas czuwania będzie możliwość skorzystania z
sakramentu pokuty.
