All of our parishioners should have received
our 2012 Parish Raffle tickets and the information sheet about the raffle through the
mail. We will hold our first Early Bird Raffle
for a chance to win $100 on Sunday, June
17th at the 8:30AM Mass. Those who have sold all ten raffle tickets and have made payment for them will be eligible
to win in the raffle. The cover of the raffle book will be used
for the drawing. There is just one week left until June 17th
for the first Early Bird Drawing. More raffle books can be
obtained at the rectory office.
This weekend, a special collection will be taken up solely
for the retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Many people remember with fondness the priest that
baptized them, gave them First Communion, celebrated
their marriage, and visited them at home or in the hospital. These memories often involve the current retired
priests of our Archdiocese. The Archdiocese of Chicago
is committed to caring for our retired priests, but it needs your assistance and the generosity of every parish community. May God reward you for your generosity in remembering our retired priests.

Mark 14:12-16,22-26
Jesus shares his Last Supper with his disciples.
Background on the Gospel Reading
Today, the second Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate a
second solemnity, which marks our return to Ordinary Time in
the liturgical calendar. Today is the Solemnity of the Most
Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one time, this day was
called Corpus Christi, the Latin words for “the Body of Christ.”
In the most recent revision of our liturgical rites, the name for
this day is expanded to be a more complete reflection of our
Eucharistic theology.
In our reading for today, we read the account of the Last Supper found in the Gospel of Mark. It begins with the instructions that Jesus gave to his disciples to prepare their Passover celebration. It then goes on to give an account of the
Last Supper. On this Sunday, however, our Lectionary reading omits the verses between these two passages; in those
omitted verses we hear Jesus predict his betrayal by one of
his disciples.
The Gospel of Mark describes Jesus' Last Supper with his
disciples as a celebration of the Jewish feast of Passover.
The Jewish celebration of Passover is a memorial to and a
ritual participation in the defining moment of Israel's history. It
celebrates God's deliverance of his people from slavery in
Egypt. The Passover meal includes many ritually important
elements, such as unleavened bread, lamb, and bitter herbs.
Each food item recalls an aspect of the Exodus event. The
instructions for the preparation of this meal are carefully prescribed in the Law of Moses. It is a central obligation of the
Jewish faith tradition to celebrate this meal and to give thanks
to God for his deliverance and protection.
In the description of the Passover meal found in today's Gospel, however, Mark omits many elements of the Jewish Passover meal. Instead he describes only those elements he believes to be most essential to the Christian Eucharist: Jesus
took bread, blessed the bread, broke the bread, and shared it
with his disciples. Similar words and actions follow as Jesus
shares the chalice with his disciples. This bread now shared
is Jesus' own body. Those who drink from the chalice are
invited to share in a new covenant which will be sealed by
Jesus' own blood. Mark's Eucharistic theology looks forward
to the Kingdom of God that Jesus inaugurates.
The Gospel for today reminds us that the Eucharist is a memorial of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine.
Each time we celebrate this sacrament, we prepare for the
Kingdom of God. This celebration, as the Second Vatican
Council taught us, is the source and summit of the Christian
life.

The Fiftieth Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
This coming October 11, the Church will mark the fiftieth
anniversary of the opening session of Vatican Council II.
This great Council was the most significant Catholic event
of the last century, and its deliberations and decrees will
continue to influence the Church, as have the acts of ecumenical councils before it. The creed we say at Mass each
Sunday, for example, comes from the earliest Councils of
the Church in the fourth and fifth centuries. Vatican II was
the twenty first Ecumenical Council of the Catholic
Church.
Why did Pope John XXIII call the Council? In a letter
dated December 25, 1961 (Humanae salutis), the Pope explained that he hoped the Council would change the relationship between the Church and the world. He called the
Council because the world of the twentieth century was so
divided by racism, nationalism, communism, Nazism and
wars and hatreds of all sorts that men and women had forgotten that the human race is a human family. Who would
tell the world that we are all brothers and sisters? Pope
John knew that the mission of the Catholic Church is to
introduce the world to its savior in every age, and he believed that the unity of the Church should be a leaven to
change the world. The Second Vatican Council was called
a pastoral council because its purpose was not to examine
Church teaching directly but to see what could be changed
in the Church in order to place her in better dialogue with a
world headed for self-destruction. The Council was missionary in its purpose; to save the world from itself, the
Church would have to open dialogues on all fronts.
In order to enter into dialogue, elements of the Church’s
life were examined and sometimes changed or adjusted.
The Council’s major documents examined the Church’s
worship of God, the sources of God’s self-revelation, the
nature of the Church herself and the Church in our times.
Each of these four topics will be discussed in future bulletin articles. My hope is that recalling the purpose and the
teaching of the Second Vatican Council will renew the
sense of mission of the Archdiocese in the coming year.
We will continue to implement the Strategic Pastoral Plan
for the Archdiocese and will do so now in light of the universal Church’s Year of Faith, recently called by Pope
Benedict XVI, timed to begin on the very anniversary of
the opening session of the Council. May our hearts be
opened anew as we commemorate this great event in the
history of the Church.

El quincuagésimo aniversario del Concilio Vaticano II
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
Este es el segundo de seis breves artículos para conmemorar el 50
aniversario de la inauguración del Concilio Vaticano II. El primer
artículo intentó explicar la finalidad pastoral que tuvo el Papa Juan
XXIII al convocar al Concilio. Él deseaba unir un mundo en guerra
consigo mismo, mediante el uso de la unidad de la Iglesia como un
catalizador para traer al diálogo a todos los pueblos. Este segundo
artículo se ocupa del primer documento aprobado por el Papa y los
Obispos en el Concilio: La Constitución sobre la Sagrada Liturgia.
El acto central de la adoración de la Iglesia, la celebración de la
Misa o la Eucaristía, se inició en el Calvario, cuando Jesús, como
sacerdote, se ofreció a sí mismo como víctima por nuestros pecados en el altar de su cruz. Ese sacrificio histórico de Cristo se hace
presente, de modo sacramental, cada vez que se ofrece la Misa.
Adoramos a Dios al participar en la ofrenda de la Misa y unir nuestro
propio sacrificio al del Señor. El Concilio quería fomentar una mayor
participación, tanto de manera interior en el espíritu, como de manera exterior en las acciones, en la celebración de la Misa. El Concilio
hizo un llamado para preservar aquellos elementos del rito que nos
llegan desde los tiempos apostólicos, pero adaptándolos para que el
lenguaje y las acciones de la Misa resultaran más accesibles, de
manera que todos los bautizados pudieran participar en ellos. El
objetivo de la reforma litúrgica fue hacer que la misa, en cierto sentido, hablara por sí misma.
La reforma de los ritos litúrgicos hizo un especial hincapié en las
Escrituras. Hizo un llamado para considerar apropiada la música
litúrgica en las lenguas vernáculas. Indicó como mandatorio la predicación homilética como parte integrante del rito mismo. Dejó en
claro la conexión que existe entre la adoración de Dios y la acción
por la justicia, la paz y la caridad en el mundo que él creó y que su
Hijo murió para salvar. Aún cuando la Eucaristía es la cumbre de la
adoración de Dios por parte de la Iglesia, el Concilio animó la devoción popular a la Santísima Virgen María, al reservado Sacramento
del altar, a los santos en el calendario litúrgico y a la participación
popular en la celebración de la Liturgia de las Horas.
El objetivo de una participación más profunda y más auténtica en la
liturgia es inculcar en todos los creyentes un sentido del tiempo
centrado en los misterios de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Cristo. Este tiempo litúrgico nos mantiene viviendo en el Reino de Dios,
incluso mientras trabajamos para obtener nuestra salvación en los
ritmos temporales de este mundo. La Misa une la brecha entre la
tierra y el cielo; es el Banquete bíblico del Cordero. En ocasiones
los católicos más jóvenes preguntarán qué pueden obtener de asistir a una misa que quizá no entiendan bien y que en ocasiones no
les interese. ¿Qué es lo que ellos (y todos los demás) obtienen? Lo
que obtienen es la vida eterna prometida por el Señor a aquellos
que “comen su carne y beben su sangre”, tomando en nuestros
cuerpos aún mortales las semillas de la inmortalidad en el cuerpo
resucitado de Cristo. Eso no es algo que uno “consigue” en ningún
otro lugar: la vida eterna.

W pierwszy dzień Przaśników, kiedy ofiarowywano Paschę, zapytali Jezusa Jego uczniowie:
Gdzie chcesz, abyśmy poszli poczynić przygotowania, żebyś mógł spożyć Paschę? I posłał dwóch spośród swoich uczniów z tym poleceniem: Idźcie do
miasta, a spotka się z wami człowiek, niosący dzban
wody. Idźcie za nim i tam, gdzie wejdzie, powiecie
gospodarzowi: Nauczyciel pyta: gdzie jest dla Mnie
izba, w której mógłbym spożyć Paschę z moimi
uczniami? On wskaże wam na górze salę dużą,
usłaną i gotową. Tam przygotujecie dla nas... . A
gdy jedli, wziął chleb, odmówił błogosławieństwo,
połamał i dał im mówiąc: Bierzcie, to jest Ciało moje.
Potem wziął kielich i odmówiwszy dziękczynienie dał
im, i pili z niego wszyscy. I rzekł do nich: To jest moja Krew
(Mk 14,12-16.22-26)

Wiemy, że ludzie ci najchętniej nie rozstawaliby się nigdy, bo chcą być blisko siebie, chcą dzielić
swoje szczęście i nieszczęście, chcą sobie wzajemnie
pomagać, ubogacać się, a do tego potrzebny jest bliski kontakt, potrzebne jest spotkanie, obecność. Takie jest prawo miłości. Gdybyśmy mieli zdolność
bilokacji, tzn. gdybyśmy mogli być równocześnie tu
i w innym miejscu, a zdarzyłaby się sytuacja, w której musielibyśmy się rozstać z naszymi bliskimi,
wówczas bardzo często korzystalibyśmy z tego właśnie prawa. Niestety, to przerasta nasze możliwości,
tego nie potrafimy i dlatego tak chętnie przy rozstaniu wręczamy sobie pamiątki. Chodzi o to, by ta
rzecz: pióro, książka, zegarek, fotografia itp. w jakiś
sposób przypominała naszą osobę i naszą przyjaźń.
Pan Jezus bardzo kochał Apostołów, musiał
jednak wracać do Ojca. Nie mógł już dłużej pozostać
na ziemi. Odchodząc chciał jednak tym, których kochał, zostawić pamiątkę. Jako Bóg był w o wiele
szczęśliwszej sytuacji niż my wszyscy. Mógł znaleźć
jakiś inny sposób pozostania z tymi, których kochał.
I oczywiście, jak każdy z nas na Jego miejscu, Chrystus z tego prawa skorzystał. Dla tych, których ukochał, pozostawił pamiątkę, a jest nią On sam.
Dziwną przyjął postać — stał się Chlebem.
To zrozumiałe, chciał być tak blisko, jak to jest tylko
możliwe. Chciał być na co dzień, jak pokarm. Chciał
być potrzebny jak chleb.
Eucharystię można zrozumieć tylko jako gest
miłości. Taką pamiątkę mógł wymyślić tylko Bóg, i
to Bóg, który ukochał człowieka miłością ponad
wszelką miarę.
Wspominamy dzisiaj dzień naszej pierwszej
Komunii świętej. Wspomnijmy wszystkie następne
Komunie święte i spróbujmy za nie podziękować
Chrystusowi. Wspomnijmy Wieczernik i wszystkie
Komunie święte, rozdane na całej kuli ziemskiej od
tamtego momentu, aż do tej chwili. Dziś, w uroczystość Bożego Ciała, podziękujmy Bogu za Jego
wprost niepojętą miłość do nas, za miłość, która stała
się chlebem.
