LITURGY OF THE WORD
Today’s reading from Sirach presents us with the
wisdom of knowing our own limitations, and humbly
living within them. Hebrews reminds us that we are
drawing near to a loving God and our heavenly home.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the wedding
banquet, which is a reminder not to place ourselves
above others.
JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
“Alms atone for sins”. Alms are mercy translated
into hands-on compassion. Jesus confirms Sirach’s
wisdom, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be
shown mercy” “Conduct your affairs with humility”.
Humility: we’re all alike and special, for we’re
children of God. Jesus confirms that wisdom, too:
“Do not recline at table in the place of honor. Take
the lowest place” In fact, “When you hold a lunch or
a dinner, do not invite friends, relatives, wealthy
neighbors. Invite the poor, crippled, lame, blind,”
physically or figuratively, society’s most vulnerable
and marginalized, “who cannot repay you”. Jesus
seems to be telling us to prepare for eternity with
God’s chosen by becoming their friend here and now.
Mercy is measured not by our delight in welcoming
those we like most or who can repay us best, but by
sincerely embracing those we like least, who cannot
repay us at all. Utter humility inspires pure mercy; pure
mercy leads to eternal joy.

Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu (cz. II)
Kiedy do przybytku Pana sprowadzono Arkę
Przymierza, Bóg wziął w posiadanie swój dom i
obłok napełnił świątynię (1 Krl 8,10). Ten sam
obłok wcześniej oznaczał obecność Jahwe w
namiocie spotkania Mojżesza, który towarzyszył
Izraelitom podczas wyjścia z niewoli egipskiej (Wj
33,9; 40,34-35). Jerozolimę, ze względu na fakt
obecności świątyni, nazywano „Jahwe jest tam” (Ez
48,35). Znakiem obecności Bożej dla narodu
wybranego był też ołtarz. Ideał zamieszkania Boga
w świątyni i Jego tam obecności został skupiony na
wieku Arki Przymierza (hilasterion) i pustym
miejscu między skrzydłami dwóch aniołów, które
raz w roku arcykapłan skrapiał krwią kozłów w
Dniu Przebłagania Boga za grzechy Izraela. Jak nas
uczy św. Paweł, miejsce to zajął Chrystus, który
zamieszkał wśród ludzi w fakcie wcielenia i stał się
żertwą ofiarną za nasze grzechy (por. Rz 3,23). Z
woli Chrystusa, Jego dzieło zbawcze na krzyżu
zostało upamiętnione i sakramentalnie uobecnione w
Eucharystii sprawowanej w Jego Kościele. W niej
adorujemy Zbawiciela świata, Baranka, który „nabył
Bogu krwią swoją ludzi z każdego pokolenia, języka
i narodu” (Ap 5,9), oczekując Jego powtórnego
przyjścia na końcu czasów, kiedy nastanie „nowe
niebo i nowa ziemia”. Od teraz miejscem centralnym
każdej
katolickiej
świątyni
jest
miejsce
zamieszkania Boga w sakramentalnej obecności
eucharystycznej, czyli tabernakulum, o czym
przypomina wiecznie paląca się lampka. Ona jest z
reguły pierwszym znakiem rozpoznawczym każdej
świątyni katolickiej.
Adoracja odrywa nas od rzeczy i uczy nas
dobrego ich używania w perspektywie ostatecznego
szczęścia. Uczy osobowego stosunku do życia:
własnego i naszych bliźnich; docenienia w nim, nie
tylko
sukcesów,
ale
również
momentów
naznaczonych kruchością, słabością i ubóstwem.
Adoracja umożliwia nam stawianie w obecności
Boga i ludzi. Jako taka prowadzi do miłości ludzi.
Adoracja prowadzi nas ku zdziwieniu, ku
kontemplacji Boga, ludzi i nas samych.
