The first reading and the Gospel are linked to this idealized description of the New Jerusalem. In both we read of distress and disturbance countered by the gift of peace. “My peace I give to you,” Jesus assures his disciples at the Last Supper. In keeping with that gift, the apostles and elders, in the reading from Acts, decide not to disturb the peace of new Gentile believers. The undue burden of circumcision will not be imposed on them. Liturgy of the Day Ascension Thursday Today’s celebration is a reminder that we live in the time between Christ’s first coming and his second coming, between his ascension and the final day at the end of time. In this in-between time we have a job to do: we are to continue his mission on earth. As we gather today at God’s invitation, may our prayer be to remain faithful and diligent disciples until the end. At the end of today’s Gospel, we hear that the apostles left the site of Jesus’ ascension with great joy. How could they be so happy at his departure? They knew that he would be with them from then on in everything they did. As we hear God’s holy word proclaimed today, let us listen for clues to how we too can be people of joy, continually praising God. PRAYER The World’s Greatest Wireless Connection Maryja - Nauczycielką modlitwy (cz. II) Drugi rodzaj modlitwy, o którym dwukrotnie wspomina św. Łukasz (2,19.51), to „rozważanie w sercu”, czyli medytacja, kontemplacja. Wielki mistrz modlitwy, współczesny teolog Tomasz Merton, tak pisze o modlitwie kontemplacyjnej: „To właściwie owe pozornie bezużyteczne elementy życia modlitwy, kontemplacja, cisza i «pustka» czynią życie prawdziwie życiem. (c.d.n.).
