Stewardship Note: “For you do not know on which day your
Lord will come.” People who have had health issues or neardeath experiences generally have a greater appreciation for each
day being a gift from God. The rest of us usually take for granted
that we will be around tomorrow. But when you start to look at
each day as a gift, you realize all the little miracles that happen
daily and grow in gratitude for all that we have been given.
FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

BE PREPARED
Be prepared. It’s that simple. As this
Advent season opens before us, the Lord
Jesus summons us to stand ready for his
coming. At this time of year much of our
attention is focused on being prepared
for the details that accompany the holiday season. We purchase gifts; we decorate our homes, inside
and out; we prepare foods that we eat only during the holidays;
we write and send Christmas cards; we attend holiday concerts;
we prepare either to welcome family and friends into our homes
or arrange for visits to their homes. We really can’t escape the
details that make up the season. Perhaps this Advent is a time to
attend to all those details with a different spin. As we prepare to
celebrate the feast of Christmas, why not be deliberate about acknowledging the presence of the Lord as we go about these
tasks? The Lord often comes to us in wonderfully surprising
ways. Let us be prepared.
FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
This Sunday, November 27th is the First Sunday of Advent.
The Advent Season has a double meaning. It is the preparation
for the Second Coming of Jesus and the end of the world, which
lasts from the first Sunday of Advent until Dec. 16th. The second
part of Advent is for the preparation of the birth of Jesus Christ.
This beautiful season is a time of reflection, meditation and for
that reason the Church invites parishioners to participate in a retreat, sacrament of reconciliation, frequent participation in
Masses and intensified prayer. The general overtone of this season is joy from the coming of Jesus as a merciful judge and also
in the mystery of Christmas.
During Advent we prepare the Advent Wreath with four candles to emphasize the urgency of the season and the spirit of conversion. The four candles on the wreath represent four weeks of
preparation. The first candle which will be lit today is a symbol
of waiting and readiness for Christ’s coming. The second candle
symbolizes the faith of the patriarch’s of the chosen people in the
spirit of gratitude for the Promised Land. The third candle symbolizes King David who celebrates covenant
with God. The fourth candle denotes the teaching of prophets
who proclaim the coming of the Messiah. The light of the candles symbolizes new hope and the closeness of the coming of
Jesus. The green branches symbolize life. The round shape of
the wreath is a symbol of the eternity of God who has no beginning or end. We kindly ask parishioners to participate in daily
masses as personal preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ in the
mystery of Christmas.

FAMILY MASS
BLESSING AND LIGHTING OF CHRISTMAS TREE
On Saturday, Dec. 3rd we invite our SJS students with their
parents to celebrate our Family Mass at 4:00pm. This Advent
Liturgy with the participation of the children in the darkness
has a special meaning. After the Mass we will bless the outdoor Christmas tree with refreshments served in the school
cafeteria and the Cash Raffle Drawing. Children may do some
early Christmas shopping in the HSA Holiday Shop set up in
the gym. They may also enjoy hot chocolate and have a photo
with St. Nicholas.
CASH RAFFLE
Last week to buy tickets for the Parish Council Cash Raffle.
Drawing will be held on Saturday, December 3rd in the School
Cafeteria following the 4:00pm mass and blessing of the Christmas Tree. Raffle tickets are $25 each or a book of 3 for $50.
Prizes: 1st prize-$3,000-2nd prize-$1,000– 3rd prize-$500.
I encourage our parishioners and friends to support this fund
raiser that may offer you additional income at Christmas time
and will also help to defray our Parish Obligations to the Diocese.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL-#12980 are
pleased to announce that this year’s Turkey Drive was a record
breaker. Through the generosity of our parishioners the council
was able to purchase 170 turkeys to be distributed to families in
our school, parish and Food Share who are in need this Thanksgiving.

PIEROGI - Christmas Wigilia is a sacred night which commences with a family supper. This is a sign of unity and joyful
celebration when families come together and share their life and
love. Entrees play an important role in the presentation of the
menu—the highlight being serving pierogi.
Therefore, in this Polish tradition we are offering fresh
homemade cheese and cabbage pierogi for $16 per dozen or $8
for half-dozen.
Orders will be taken until December 5th. Please complete
forms that are available at the entrances of the Basilica and drop
them into the collection basket or call the rectory.

FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
On Friday, December 2nd Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after the 7:00am Mass and conclude at
3:00opm with the recitation of the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy
followed by Benediction. Adorers are asked to come at the
scheduled time. We invite all member of the Sacred Heart Society as well as parishioners to join us at the Mass which is designated for the deceased members. Mass in the Polish language
will be celebrated at 7:00pm
Mark your calendar - next Sunday, Dec., 4th we invite you
at 3:00pm to come and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet followed
by Benediction.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
The Angel giving Tree in the sanctuary and at the front entrance of the Basilica gives us the opportunity to share Christmas spirit in the Advent Season. Please take an “Angel” and
make it part of your Christmas giving. Children as well as the
elderly look forward to this annual tradition and you become an
Angel of wisdom, education and charity to brighten their season. You may also give toward tuition assistance for families
who want their children to attend SJS but find it difficult to
meet these expenses.
Please place the angel on your gift and place it under the tree
in the sanctuary before December 18th to allow time for distribution. If you prefer to donate a monetary gift, please bring it
to the rectory or place it in the collection basket.
Your gifts will put smiles on the faces of the less fortunate,
especially the children.
OPLATKI
The Christmas wafers were first associated with the Nativity
of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world and constitute an essential element of the Christmas Vigil Supper. This custom celebrated by millions of people is continually growing because it
symbolized the Bread of life. Breaking the oplatek with our
loved ones means sharing life, difficulties, joy and peace
throughout the year. An explanation of the ritual of the breaking of the oplatek is printed on the packet.
Oplatki will be blessed on Dec. 3rd at the 4:00pm Family
Mass and available in the sacristy. A donation of $3.00 is appreciated.
DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
We invite you to join us on Wednesday, Nov., 30th at
7:00pm for the Devotion and Novena to our Patron. As we
close the Jubilee Year of Mercy and approach the Advent Season, this is the perfect time to come together so that we may
better understand that love comes from God and we can ask
Him for needed graces. Once our hearts are opened to love,
than the face of the world will be changed.
Members of the Holy Rosary Society will assist in carrying
our Patron’s statue into the sanctuary. Please write your petitions legibly to be read during devotion. We appreciate your
offerings.
Friday Night Bingo - please come with your relatives and
friends to our SJS cafeteria on Dec. 2nd for an exciting evening
and the opportunity to maybe win some extra holiday cash.

Czy jesteśmy gotowi stanąć przed
obliczem Chrystusa? Stawiając to
ważne pytanie, liturgia pierwszej
niedzieli Adwentu wzywa nas do
czuwania, do odrzucania uczynków
ciemności, do zaparcia się siebie.
Jednocześnie jednak daje nadzieję, że przyjście Pana przyniesie
nam nie potępienie i karę, lecz radość, pokój i spełnienie
wszystkich naszych tęsknot. Obyśmy uczestnicząc w tej
Eucharystii zapragnęli iść z radością na spotkanie Pana drogą
nawrócenia, ufni, że na jej końcu czeka nas szczęście, którego
zapowiedzią jest Boże Narodzenie.
MSZA RODZINNA
POŚWIĘCENIE CHOINKI
W najbliższą sobotę, 3 grudnia na Mszę św. o godz. 16:00
zapraszamy wszystkich rodziców i dzieci z naszej szkoły na
Mszę św. rodzinną z okazji rozpoczęcia Adwentu.
Po Mszy św. tradycyjnie spotkamy się na zewnątrz kościoła,
aby pobłogosławić choinkę i zapalić tradycyjne światła.
Rodzinne spotkanie zakończy się w szkolnej kafeterii
niewielkim poczęstunkiem, kiedy to odbędzie się również
losowanie loterii. Dodatkową atrakcją będą również
odwiedziny św. Mikołaja.
Druga kolekta w przyszłym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona
na pokrycie wyższych kosztów utrzymania i energii.

RYCERZE KOLUMBA
Rycerze Kolumba pragną serdecznie podziękować za tegoroczną
zbiórkę na zakup indyków dla potrzebujących. Dzięki Waszej hojności
możliwe było zakupienia 170 indyków, które trafią do potrzebujących
rodzin uczniów naszej szkoły, parafian jak również do Webster Food
Share.
PIEROGI
Zbliża się wigilia Bożego Narodzenia, a wraz z nią tradycyjna
wieczerza – czas na rodzinne spotkanie dzielenie się miłością
i pokojem. Ważnym elementem tego wieczoru są postne potrawy.
W naszej parafii od wielu lat oferujemy świeże pierogi z serem
i kapustą, aby każdy mógł umilić ich smakiem rodziną wieczerzę.
Zamówienia na pierogi (niezbędne jest wcześniejsze określenie jak
wiele pierogów trzeb przygotować) należy złożyć na formularzach
znajdujących się przy wejściach do Bazyliki przed 5 grudnia. Cena
pierogów to odpowiednio: $16 za tuzin i $8 za pół tuzina.
Zamówione pierogi będzie można odebrać w sobotę 17 grudnia od
14:00 do 17:30 oraz w niedzielę 18 grudnia od 9:00 do 10:30.
LOTERIA
Dziś mija ostateczny termin na zakup kuponów na loterię pieniężną
organizowaną przez Radę Parafialną. Losowanie odbędzie się w
sobotę, 3 grudnia w szkolnej kafeterii po Mszy św. o godz. 16:00 i po
poświęceniu choinki. Kupony można nabyć w cenie $25 za jeden oraz
$50 za trzy.
Do wylosowania trzy nagrody: 1 nagroda $3,000; 2 nagroda $1,000;
3 nagroda $500.
Serdecznie zapraszamy do udziału. Dochód z loterii zostanie
wykorzystany na spłatę Zobowiązań Diecezjalnych.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK
W najbliższy piątek będziemy obchodzić pierwszy piątek miesiąca.
Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu rozpocznie się po mszy św. o
godz. 7:00 i zakończy Koronka do Miłosierdzia Bożego o godz. 15:00.
Zapraszamy wszystkich parafian do prywatnej adoracji, a organizacje
parafialne do adoracji w wyznaczonym czasie.
Msza św. po polsku o godz. 19:00 a pół godziny przed Mszą
możliwość spowiedzi.
KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Na tradycyjne nabożeństwo do Miłosierdzia Bożego zapraszamy
w najbliższą niedzielę o godz. 15:00. W godzinie miłosierdzia Jezus
obdarza nas szczególnymi łaskami. Rozważanie Jego męki i śmierci
pozwala nam zanurzyć się w owocach zbawczej ofiary Chrystusa.
OPŁATKI
Bożonarodzeniowe opłatki są bardzo silnie związane z tradycją
Bożego Narodzenia i stanowią istotny element rodzinnej Wigilii.
Zwyczaj ten obchodzony jest przez miliony ludzi i ich liczba stale
rośnie. Jest to ważny symbol ponieważ nawiązuje do Najświętszego
Sakramentu, Jezus, który narodził się w Betlejem .
Opłatki zostaną pobłogosławione na Mszy św. o godz. 16:00 w
najbliższą sobotę. Pobłogosławione opłatki będą dostępne w zakrystii.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
Jak co roku w adwencie, przy prezbiterium i w wejściu do Bazyliki
znajdują się specjalne drzewka, które dają nam możliwość lepszego
odczucia ducha Bożego Narodzenia i Adwentu poprzez odpowiedz na
prośbę potrzebującego człowieka. Poprzez udzielanie pomocy
dzieciom i starszym stajesz się aniołem mądrości, edukacji i miłości,
który pozwala innym odczuć radość czasu Bożego Narodzenia. Istnieje
duże zapotrzebowanie na pomoc w zapłaceniu czesnego dla rodzin,
które chcą, aby ich dzieci uczęszczały do szkoły św. Józefa, ale
zmagają się z poważnymi problemami ekonomicznymi. Prezenty będą
zbierane do 15 grudnia. Zapakowany prezent, wraz z aniołkiem
prosimy składać pod drzewkami w kościele. Ofiary pieniężne prosimy
przynosić do zakrystii lub na plebanię. Wasze prezenty z pewnością
wzbudzą uśmiech na twarzach i radość w sercach potrzebujących,
zwłaszcza dzieci. Bóg Zapłać!
NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Świadectwo wielu wielkich świętych zapewnia nas, że Józef może
nam dopomóc w potrzeby każdego rodzaju, jednak jest on szczególnie
znany jako pomocnik w problemach rodzinnych, finansowych,
zmaganiach z zachowaniem czystości, obroną przed zagrożeniami,
sprawach dotyczących pracy lub mieszkania, jak również jako patron

Dziś rozpoczął się Adwent, okres w Roku Liturgicznym, który przygotowuje nas do Świąt Bożego Narodzenia. Na czym polega?
Dlaczego w czasie adwentu rano w kościołach odprawia się roraty? Po co są wieńce adwentowe z czterema świecami?
Adwent rozpoczyna się od pierwszych Nieszporów w pierwszą niedzielę adwentu, i trwa do Wigilli Bożego Narodzenia, czyli do 24
grudnia.
Na czym polega adwent? Jest oczekiwaniem na powtórne przyjście Chrystusa, ale żeby go godnie przeżyć każdy wierny musi
poświęcić czas na modlitwę, post i jałmużnę. Adwent jest okresem oczekiwania w ciszy i przygotowania, dlatego Kościół zachęca do
udziału w rekolekcjach oraz przystąpienia do sakramentu pokuty i pojednania. Okres ten nie jest czasem pokuty w takim wymiarze jak
Wielki Post, ale posiada swoisty charakter refleksyjny.
Z punktu widzenia liturgii Adwent można podzielić na dwa okresy: od początku adwentu do 16 grudnia czas szczególnego
oczekiwania na powtórne przyjście Jezusa Chrystusa na końcu czasów; od 17 grudnia do 24 grudnia czas bezpośredniego przygotowania
do uroczystości Narodzenia Pańskiego.
Wieniec adwentowy - jakie jest jego znaczenie? Wykonany z gałązek iglastych z czterema świecami, które zapala się kolejno w każdą
niedzielę. Zapalanie świec oznacza czuwanie i gotowość na przyjście Chrystusa. Wiąże się to ze słowami Chrystusa, który określał
siebie mianem "światłości świata". Pierwsza świeca - symbol przebaczenia przez Boga nieposłuszeństwa Adama i Ewy wobec
Niego. Druga świeca - symbol wiary patriarchów Narodu Izraelskiego jako wdzięczność za dar Ziemi Obiecanej. Trzecia świeca symbolradości króla Dawida, który celebruje przymierze z Bogiem. Czwarta świeca - symbol nauczania proroków, głoszących
przyjście Mesjasza. W Wigilię Bożego Narodzenia wszystkie palące się świece stanowią symbol bliskości "przyjścia" Jezusa. Światło
świec w wieńcu oznacza nadzieję. Zieleń stanowi symbol trwającego życia. Natomiast kształt kręgu symbolizuje wieczność Boga, który
nie ma początku ani końca, oraz wieczność życia Chrystusa.
Wieniec adwentowy jest symbolem wyczekującego w miłości i radości Ludu Bożego. Stanowi także symbol zwycięstwa i godności
królewskiej. Jest formą hołdu dla oczekiwanego Chrystusa jako zwycięzcy, króla i wybawiciela
