of the Euroregion Pomerania and a centre for political, social and cultural cooperation involving local
governments in Poland, Germany and Scandinavia.

of transport. The node comprises all modes of transport, including road, rail, air
and sea.
Air Transport: international airports:

Projects are underway to improve expressways linking Szczecin and the region with the
system of roads in Poland.
Rail
three types of passenger rail services are available in Szczecin:
• Regional: the Szczecin node has direct rail connections with the largest cities in the
region
• Long distance: Szczecin has direct links with major cities in the country, including
Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Lublin, Toruń, Przemyśl, and Białystok
• International:

to Berlin and other river ports in Western Europe.
• The most important transit seaport for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
• Location on the shortest sea route linking Scandinavia with Central and Southern
Europe, and through the Baltic Sea to Finland, Russia and a route linking Baltic States
with Germany and Western Europe
In Szczecin and Świnoujście, shipping lines provide services to such countries as Nigeria,
Ghana, Ivory Coast, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Great Britain, Ireland, Norway,
Denmark, Sweden, and Island.
2
Szczecin is a rapidly developing administrative and science centre where
knowledge, enterprise and open attitude towards investment comprise
a modern tool supporting economic growth in the region. The
population of the city is in excess of 407 thousand people, and the
planned Szczecin Metropolitan Area account for nearly 670 thousand
people. Over 66% of the population are people in working age,
including 70 thousand at the age of 20-29.
Szczecin enjoys large intellectual and science potential, as well as science and
research base. Thus, the city may become a modern European business centre.
The City focuses on developing the BPO sector and modern technologies.
Office space
According to experts, the current potential of offcie space in the city is roughly
80 thousand square meters. Considering growing interest among major investors
in the sector, in the years to come the city may expect an increase in new modern
office space in excess of 155 thousand m2.

Innovation Centres
Major factors determining the competitiveness and economic growth in
regions include modern technologies and innovation capacity. The driving
forces for the development of the region is based on innovative companies
involved in transferring technologies from science to economy, and
employing highly qualified staff. Being the largest city in the region, Szczecin
is a focal point for various companies implementing and supporting
innovative projects.
The Szczecin Science and Technology Park
www.spnt.pl
The Park supports and control the flow of knowledge and technologies
between universities, R&D centres, companies and markets. At the moment,
the Park prepares the implementation of an investment project of Park
Pomerania. The major role of the Park is to combine efforts by R&D centres
and companies interested in investing in innovative products and services.
The implementation of the project is staged in the period of 2009-2020.
Zachodniopomorskie Advanced Technology Centre
www.zczt.ps.pl

Investor Support – one stop shop
While creating good business environment and the best conditions for
development of companies, the City concentrates on establishing an efficient local
investor support system. The system should cooperate at operational and technical
levels with governmental institutions and private companies (Polish Agency of
Information and Inward Investment, special economic zones, technology parks,
clusters, and private consulting companies).
The point of first contact for people interested in investing in Szczecin is the
Investor Support Section at the City Development Department. The Section is
responsible for the following:
– providing requested information concerning investment in the city,
– organising meetings with the City President, representatives of city departments,
business organisations, County Employment Office, business support institutions
and academic centres,
– facilitating search for development property as requested by an investor,
– supporting the flow of documents concerning investment,
– preparing information about investment opportunities,
– promoting contacts with investors,
– assisting investors in staff recruitment process,
– implementing promotional activities.
All formalities related to starting business activity can be dealt with at one stop
shop. Szczecin is the first city in Poland to create Enterprise Support Centre. The
scope of support provided:
– Registration in the business register and amending entries in the system,
– Notification about suspension or restart of business activity, as well as about
termination of business activity,
– Provision of information about companies registered in the system.
Additionally, A regional Investor Support Centre at the Regional Government
operates in the city. The Centre (COI) provides support to foreign business
interested in investing in the region.
Living conditions

attractiveness of Szczecin is based on a large number of cultural institutions, organisations
and associations. Historical monuments, museums, art galleries and interesting programme
of cinemas, including Pionier - the oldest operating cinema in the world established in 1909
– are considered very attractive.

Every year more than 650 thousand tourists come to Szczecin interested in historical sites,
beautiful music and art, and entertainment. The local entertainment offer is
complemented by a large number of pubs, restaurants, clubs and discos which provide
entertainment at the top European level.
Active leisure – Geographic location and natural resources of Szczecin comprise a major
potential for developing the city and its vicinity, and boost the attractiveness of the city for
tourists. Forms of active leisure include yachting and water sports, horse ridding, cycling, and
skiing at Gubałówka, the largest hill in the city. In the vicinity of Szczecin, situated is Binowo
Park, a beautiful golf course, which is an excellent venue for rest and relaxation, as well as
meeting of other golfers.
Healthcare – Szczecin offers top quality healthcare and wellness services. Outpatient
clinics and beauty parlours furnished with latest technology and equipment provide
treatment, ranging from dentistry, plastic surgery and wellness. Knowledge of languages
among doctors and favourable price levels made Szczecin a major destination for tourists
from such countries as Germany, Great Britain and Scandinavia.
Safety – According to statistics, crime rate in the city has been steadily falling and at the
same time crime detection has been growing. Favourable changes as regards safety in the
city are mainly attributable to prevention programmes implemented in Szczecin.
