SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December 7, 2014
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill shall be made low. - Isaiah 40:4
EXILE
Both Isaiah and Peter had the task of comforting and encouraging their communities
during times of exile. The Israelites were in
geographic exile from Israel; to them this was,
in effect, the same as being in exile from their God. The early
Christians, following the Resurrection, expected an immediate
return of Christ in glory; they, too, felt in “exile” as the delay
of the Second Coming grew longer and longer. All four of
scripture’s authors today—Isaiah, the psalmist, Peter and Mark
—hasten to help us see things in God’s terms, not ours. They
want us to know that we can never truly be exiled from God, or
from God-among-us, since we know that when the faithful are
gathered.
Christ has come into their midst. Instead, we are encouraged
today to do what we can from our end to shorten the time of
our exile: to repent of our sins, to return our lives to the Lord,
to live as people who seek the coming day of the Lord, when
“kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss”.
The 2nd collection this weekend
is for Parish Obligations to the Diocese.
Next week’s second collection is designated
for Higher Utility and Energy Costs.
ADVENT
We all know that Advent is a time for the preparation for the
birth of the Messiah of the world. Advent is divided into two
parts—the first Sunday of Advent until December 17th to get
ready for encountering Jesus in eternity. From December 17th
to December 25th we prepare for the celebration of the historical
first Christmas. For that reason it is a time for personal renewal,
conversion through confession, daily masses, philanthropic activities on behalf of the needy and the Church. There are many
symbols of Advent—one is the Advent Wreath that is made of
a circle of evergreens which represents eternity and includes five
candles each symbolizing an aspect of spiritual preparation for
the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Last Sunday we lit the first
purple candle called the “Prophecy Candle” which represents
hope. This week we will light the second purple candle called
the “Bethlehem Candle” which represents love and symbolizes
Christ’s manger.
Angel Tree- Please make our Angel Tree part of your Christmas
giving to bring joy to the less fortunate. Place your chosen angel on
your gift and place it under the tree in the sanctuary before Monday, December 15th to allow time for distribution. If you prefer to
donate a monetary gift, please bring it to the sacristy or to the rectory. Your gifts will put smiles on the faces of the needy, especially
the children.

centuries old tradition of sharing the blessed opłatek with your
family on Christmas Eve. Opłatki are available in the sacristy

DEVOTION TO THE DIVINE MERCY
This Sunday, December 7th, we will celebrate the merciful
love of Jesus Christ as we pray for special graces needed in our
lives and in the world. Jesus said to Sr. Faustina, “Through the
Chaplet you may obtain everything, if what you ask for will be
compatible with my will”. Please make an effort to spend an
hour with Jesus by joining us in this meaningful devotion to the
Divine Mercy and Benediction.
UPDATE ON GYMNASIUM
On behalf of the Executive Committee I would like to give
you an update on the status of the construction of the Richard
A. Nowak Gymnasium and Parish Hall/Cafeteria. Bishop
McManus approved our construction project as the result of our
financial compliance of having a minimum of 50% in cash and
remaining balance in Diocesan verified pledges. Construction
began December 2013 and significant progress has been realized that includes the completion of all the foundation
work, underground preparation, placing of the steel girders and
material for the walls, roof, etc. which are stored on the
grounds. For this work we paid Lauring Construction $1.76
million and with the payments to various vendors we exhausted
our available cash.
Unfortunately, several of our major pledges did not materialize and resulted in the present construction interruption. The
Executive Committee together with Lauring Company and his
subcontractors, made every effort to revise the plans, hoping
that it would significantly decrease the original cost. This new
version would not include, for the time being, the stage, locker
rooms, limit number of hoops, grease trap, outside landscaping,
and would change the shape of the roof. Before Thanksgiving,
Mr. Lauring reported that the savings were lower than expected
resulting in only a few hundred thousand dollars cost reduction. This new proposal was presented to Mr. Nowak, the gym’s
major benefactor, who was not in favor of these changes and
together with the Executive Committee chose to stay with the
original plan which calls for an additional $2 million to be
raised to completely finish the gym and only the shell of the
Parish Hall/Cafeteria.
The Diocese requires that we have the full cash amount in
hand to fully complete the project. At the present time, we are
conducting an aggressive local and national campaign with
some promising sources to raise the needed balance. Mr.
Lauring reported that at this point his subcontractors for the
walls and roof will not be available until March which will give
us extra time to raise the money.
I am very grateful for the continuous generosity of our parishioners, who on a monthly basis, help to fund this very important and anxiously anticipated project. Perhaps, in this Advent Season, you may want to consider a major contribution to
help the children of St. Joseph School.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Please join us together with the members of the St. Anne Society at 7:00pm for our weekly Wed., Novena and Devotion to
honor St. Joseph. This is a wonderful opportunity to pray
through the intercession of our Patron so that we may all be
secure and safe in this insecure world. Write your intentions on
the petition slips available in the Chapel. Donations accepted.
PARISH GATHERING
The Advent and Christmas Seasons are particular times when
we reach out to family members, loved ones, and renew friendships with neighbors. This joyful time could also be a lonely
time for those who lost loved ones by death, divorce or someone whose family has moved away from our parish community.
For this reason on Sunday, December 14th at 9:30am Mass we
invite you to join us for a special Liturgy, followed by a reception in the school cafeteria.
Please notify and encourage your family members to take
part in this social gathering. Light refreshments will be served.
SCHOOL NOTES
Christmas Pageant– rehearsals are under way. Our students
are practicing diligently for their performance on Sun. Dec.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS– offers us an
opportunity to support elder religious in this phase of their
journeys. While many continue in some form of ministry,
others are frail and need assistance as they continue in their
ministry of prayer. Your gift provides vital funding for their
medical needs. It also helps religious congregations implement
long-term retirement strategies that ensure quality eldercare and
continued service to the People of God. Retirement Fund for
Religious collection will be taken at our Basilica on the
weekend of Dec. 20th-21st.

„Pocieszcie, pocieszcie mój lud”. Współczujące
spojrzenie nie pozwala nam dłużej milczeć. Nadzieja
nie jest naszą własnością. Nikt, kto widzi i słyszy,
nie może pozostać bezczynnym obserwatorem.
Początkiem Ewangelii jest „głos wołającego na
pustyni”. Trzeba wołać, bo znękany świat przestał czekać, bo już się
niczego nie spodziewa. W środku bogatego świata człowiek

Dzisiejszej niedzieli będziemy celebrować Miłosierną Miłość Jezusa
Chrystusa, modląc się o szczególne łaski, których potrzebujemy
w życiu my i nasi bliscy. Zachęcamy do podjęcia dodatkowego
wysiłku, żeby spędzić godzinę z Jezusem w czasie tego szczególnego
nabożeństwa.

Poświęcone opłatki są dostępne w zakrystii. Postarajmy się, żeby
na wigilijnym stole nie zabrakło tego tradycyjnego symbolu dobroci
i pokoju, którym się nawzajem dzielimy.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
Angel Giving Tree znajdują się przy prezbiterium, i przy wejściach
do Bazyliki daje nam możliwość podzielenia się duchem Bożego
Narodzenia w Adwentu. Bardzo prosimy o zabieranie aniołków
i zamienianie ich prezenty, które będą przekazywane potrzebującym.
Poprzez udzielanie pomocy dzieciom i starszych stajemy się aniołami
mądrości, edukacji i miłości, czyniąc okres Bożego Narodzenia
szczęśliwszym dla tych, którzy potrzebują wsparcia. Istnieje wielka
potrzeba wsparcia w opłacie za szkołę dla rodzin, które chcą, by ich
dzieci uczęszczały do naszej szkoły, ale mają trudności finansowe.
Prosimy umieszczać prezenty pod drzewem w prezbiterium do
15 grudnia, aby mogły one dotrzeć potrzebujących przed Świętami.

NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy z członkami St. Ann Society w
środę o godzinie 19:00 w czasie cotygodniowej Nowenny do
św. Józefa. To wspaniała okazja, aby za pośrednictwem naszego
Patrona o wsparcie i pomoc w tym trudnym i niebezpiecznym świecie.
SPOTKANIE PARAFIALNE
Adwent i Boże Narodzenie to szczególny czasy, kiedy bardziej niż
kiedykolwiek pragniemy poczuć obecność członków rodziny, bliskich
i odnowić przyjaźnie oraz znajomości z sąsiadami. W ten radosny
czas, może zdarzyć się również, że ktoś pozostaje samotny po stracie
swoich bliskich, z powodu rozwodu lub będąc z dala od rodziny.
Z tego powodu w niedzielę, 14 grudnia zapraszamy takie osoby na
Mszę św. o godz. 9:30, a następnie na poczęstunek w szkolnej
stołówce.
Jest to błogosławiony czas, kiedy powinniśmy uświadomić
wszystkim, w tym również i sobie, że jesteśmy darem Boga
i powinniśmy wspierać się wzajemnie.
RELIGIA
Katecheza - poniedziałek, 08 grudnia o 17:30 w szkole. Druga sesja
dla rodziców dzieci pierwszokomunijnych (włączając uczniów drugiej
klasy Szkoły św. Józefa) odbędzie się w tym samym czasie.
Bierzmowanie – następne spotkanie odbędzie się w niedzielę,
14 grudnia na plebanii.
SALA GIMNASTYCZNA
W imieniu Executive Commettee przedstawiamy najnowsze
informacje na temat budowy sali gimnastycznej i centrum
parafialnego.
Biskup McManus pozwolił na rozpoczęcie budowy, gdy mieliśmy
wymagane 50% środków na budowę w gotówce i drugie 50%
w potwierdzonych i zatwierdzonych obietnicach. Prace rozpoczęły się
w grudniu rok temu i zostały od tego czasu wykonane fundamenty
i konstrukcja nośna oraz zostały zakupione elementy poszycia ścian
i dachu. Za wykonane prace główny wykonawca otrzymał $1.76 mln.
Opłacenie innych wydatków i zakupów pochłonęło resztę pieniędzy,
które mieliśmy „na ręce”
Niestety niektóre z obietnic nie zostały spełnione ze względu na
różnorodne przeszkody natury prawnej i rodzinnej. To z kolei
spowodowało, że prace budowlane musiały zostać przerwane.

sposób, tak by zredukować koszty. Nowa wersja została pomniejszona
m.in. o scenę i pomieszczenia przy scenie oraz inne pomieszczenia,
a także organizację terenu wokół budynku. Zmieniony został również

Ostatecznie razem z Executive Commettee powrócono do
oryginalnych planów, co niestety wymaga od nas zgromadzenia
dodatkowych $2 mln na kompletne ukończenie sali gimnastycznej
i postawienie w surowym stanie centrum parafialnego. Środki, które
obecnie posiadamy są wystarczające na złożenie ścian i położenie
dachu, zamontowanie okien i rynien. Niestety Diecezja wymaga od
nas zgromadzenia całości sumy zanim pozwoli nam na rozpoczęcie
prac.
Obecnie prowadzimy agresywną i szeroko zakrojoną działalność
w celu zgromadzenia potrzebnych środków, co napawa nadzieją
na sukces. Główny wykonawca i jego podwykonawcy nie będą
dostępni do marca, a zatem mamy trochę czasu, aby zgromadzić
potrzebne pieniądze.
Korzystając z okazji chcemy bardzo serdecznie podziękować
parafianom, którzy co miesiąc wspomagają swoimi datkami
wspomagają tę ważną i trudną budowę. Zachęcamy i prosimy również
tych parafian, aby w czasie Adwentu i w zbliżającym się czasie
Bożego Narodzenia rozważyli możliwość wsparcia tego projektu i w
ten sposób pomogli dzieciom z naszej szkoły.
PODZIĘKOWANIE. W imieniu Polskiej Szkoły Sobotniej bardzo
dziękuje wszystkim Gościom, którzy wspanialie bawili się na naszej
zabawie andrzejkowej, a swoją obecnoscią wsparli działanie naszej
szkoły. Po raz pierwszy w historii naszej szkoły na zabawie było
ponad 200 osób! Do tańca spiewał znany z Polski Adam Chrola przy
akompaniamencie zespołu Vademecum. Wszyscy chwalili wyśmienite
jedzenie, pyszne desery i zakąski oraz liczną loterię fantową!
Dziękujemy włascicielom sklepów Orawa, Midtown Deli i Smart
Plaza za ofiarowanie półmisków z wędlinami na nasz stół z zakąskami.
Halinie Głowackiej za robienie zdjęć i reportaża do Białego Orła oraz
Rodzicom ze szkoły i Przyjaciołom za pyszne zakąski, desery
i dogrywki. Dziękuję rodzicom za pomoc przy dekoracji sali, jak też
przy sprzątaniu po zabawie. Szczególne podziękowania kieruję w
stronę Marzeny Kolinski i Bernadety Rogalskiej, na które zawsze
można liczyć, za zorganizowanie tej zabawy. Dziękuję również Kasi
Kalinowskiej za szczodre wsparcie finansowe naszej szkoły. To
właśnie dzięki Wam, mili Goscie, przy wspólnym wysiłku, nasza
szkoła może funkcjonować i rozwijać się. Bóg zapłać!
