identification purposes. The post office is putting a trace on the
packages to see why they have not been received. Thank you.
GIVIG TREE
Our annual “Giving Tree” advent project will begin next
weekend, November 19th & 20th. We invite you to take a tag
from the tree and purchase the gift indicated. We ask that all
gifts be left unwrapped. Attach the tag to the outside of the
package and place the gift near the tree by Sunday, December
4th. The gifts will be distributed to needy and homebound
members of our parish, Catholic residents of Belsky House
(UCP), homeless people served through CHIPS, and children
whose mothers are in prison. All gifts should be new and unused. This project has been successful in the past and we are
confident that our generous parishioners will again respond
with love and enthusiasm.

UPCOMIG LITURGICAL CHAGES TO EGLISH
MASS
We are just two weeks away from embracing some changes
in the prayers and responses in the English translation of Mass,
beginning the first Sunday of Advent, Nov. 27th - 28th. This is
to reflect more accurate translation of the Eucharist from Latin.
With the first Sunday of Advent, you will find printouts in the
pews of the upper & lower church of the newly translated
prayers to facilitate our participation at Mass. These handouts
are to remain in the church.
CHRIST JESUS, OUR HOPE
Christ Jesus, Our Hope is an on-going strategic planning
process of the Diocese which endeavors to strengthen the resources and services offered at the parish level. We pray in union with the parishes of Brooklyn & Queens and ask God’s
blessing and guidance as we move forward with this process.
TODAY’S READIGS
First Reading - The woman who fears the LORD is to be
praised (Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31).
Psalm - Blessed are those who fear the Lord
(Psalm 128).
Second Reading - Brothers and sisters, you are children
of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6).
Gospel - To all those who have, more will be given, and
they will have an abundance (Matthew 25:14-30 [14-15,
19-21]).
CHAGE OUR LIVES
The letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his
earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the
belief of the entire early Christian community that the
return of Christ was imminent, and that devoting time or
attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor subsided a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the
coming end-times, if we should take them to heart, if we
really believe that Christ still may come upon us as a
“thief at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Does this mean that
we are to stop our long-range goal-setting, get rid of our
yearly calendars and planners, or stop putting money in
the college education fund? Of course not. What it does
mean is that we need to change our lives, living like
children of the light and illuminating the world around us
with the light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the
details of our daily living become unimportant, we will be
ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

FEAST OF OUR FAITHAST OF FAITH
Blessing and Dismissal
At the beginning of Mass, the priest made the sign of
the cross with us. At the conclusion of Mass, he makes
the sign of the cross over us, a sign of blessing. We are
then dismissed - not just let out, but sent forth with a
mission “to love and serve the Lord.” Just as Jesus
blessed his disciples as he ascended to heaven, so this
leave-taking is joined to a blessing, a prayer for God’s
continuing protection. As we leave the church, we bear
the invisible sign of the Master whom we follow. In the
words of an ancient letter to Diognetus, “Christians are
indistinguishable from other [people] either by
nationality, language, or customs. They do not inhabit
separate cities of their own, or speak a strange dialect, or
follow an outlandish way of life. . . . And yet, there is
something extraordinary about their lives” (Liturgy of the
Hours, Vol. II, p. 840). We are ordinary people sent forth
to live extraordinary lives, lives like Christ’s own life pouring ourselves out for others in prayer, service, and
love.

Trigésimo tercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
13 de noviembre de 2011
Dichoso el que teme al Señor.
- Salmo 128(127):1a
CAMBIA UESTRAS VIDAS
Tesalonicenses 5:2).
