Bogata jest dotychczasowa literatura poświęcona siodłom dawnych ludów tureckich.
Resztki siodeł i elementy rzędów końskich (wędzidła, strzemiona, okucia) znajdowane są
często w grobach z VI-X w., szczególnie na terenach południowej Syberii. Związane jest
to z powszechnym tam wówczas zwyczajem wkładania do grobów ludzkich całych ciał
końskich lub ich części. Siodła znajdowane są na szkieletach koni lub przy kościach nóg
zmarłego. Można wydzielić trzy typy siodeł różniące się kształtem łuków i ławek. Ich
drewniane stelaże pokryte był skórą i ozdobione metalowymi okuciami.
Yulij S. Khudjakov, The Saddles of Ancient Turks in Central Asia
The hitherto published literature devoted to the saddles of ancient Turkish peoples is rich.
Remains of saddles and fragments of horse harness (horse bits, stirrups, fittings) are
frequently found in the 6th-10th-century graves, particularly in the territory of southern
Siberia, which is connected with the contemporary widespread custom of putting whole
horse bodies or their parts into human graves. Saddles have been discovered on horse
skeletons or next to the dead person’s leg bones. The saddles can be classified into three
different types depending on the shape of the bars and arches. Their wooden frames were
covered in leather and ornamented with metal fittings.
