Słowa kluczowe: przenoszenie farby, kształt komórki, kąt zwilżania, lepkość This paper examines the ink transfer process during flexographic printing. To explore the behavior of ink a numerical simulation is carried out based on simplified computational model. Ink is held between anilox cavity and an upward moving plate, which corresponds to the picking up of ink from the anilox roller by the flexible printing plate. The fluid flow is described by solving the Stokes equations, discretized with the finite element method. The volume of fluid (VOF) model was adopted to demonstrate the stretching and break–up behaviors of the ink. The influences of the anilox cavity shape, ink viscosity and printing plate contact angles on the ink transfer ratio are estimated. The most versatile printing process is flexography. It allows printing on every kind of substrate: paper, corrugated board, plastic, polypropylene, flexible electronics etc. [2, 11]. Moreover rotational flexographic printing is a promising high-throughput technology for the front side metallization of silicon solar cells [13]. Paper, cardboard and corrugated board are very porous and absorbing substrates. Therefore, the techniques of achieving uniform, required and predictable ink film on the printed substrate become very important. The ability to print very fine printed elements is essential for production images of high resolution. Recent advancements in laser technology have allowed many anilox roller companies to experiment in different cell shapes and to come up with new ideas on ink transfer. Numerous surface geometries have come to the market in the last few years. Printers may be confused by the various engraving technologies available [10, 14]. There have been a number of studies on the ink transfer in the roll–to–roll (R2R) printing process [3, 6, 8, 12]. Most of them consider ink transfer in gravure or gravure–offset printing applications. The common unit in the gravure and flexography processes is an O. Blagodir, Ph. D. student, O.
