LUBELSKI ODDZIAŁ POLSKIEGO TOWARZYSTWA CHEMICZNEGO serdecznie zaprasza wszystkich zainteresowanych na wykład Prof. Carlosa D. Bravo-Diaz Universidad De Vigo, Facultad De Quimica, Departamento De Química Fisica As Lagoas-Marcosende, 36200 Vigo, Spain zatytułowany “ARENEDIAZONIUM IONS: CHEMICAL PROBES OF THE INTERFACIAL COMPOSITION OF COLLOIDAL SYSTEMS” Wykład odbędzie się we wtorek 11 maja 2010 o godzinie 12.00 w sali M, Mała Chemia Pl. M.C.Skłodowskiej 2. prof. Anna Deryło-Marczewska (Przewodnicząca Lubelskiego Oddziału PTChem) ABSTRACT Arenediazonium, ArN2+, ions are important in preparative and synthetic chemistry and became industrially significant after Griess discovered the azo-coupling reaction, i.e. replacement of an electrofugic atom or group at a nucleophilic carbon atom by an ArN2+ ion. In addition to the well-known applications in synthetic and azo dye chemistry, new and interesting uses are emerging, e.g. they are currently being used to modify carbon surfaces, to probe interfacial compositions of colloidal aggregates and their role in mutagenic and carcinogenic processes is being investigated. This talk will focus on their applications rather than in their chemistry and will show some examples of the use of arenediazonium, ArN2+ , ions as chemical probes focusing on three applications: - To monitor alcohol induced micelle breakdown by chemical trapping. - To determine association constants of aryl radicals to micellar and macromolecular systems. - To determine antioxidant distributions in food-grade emulsions. For the purpose, several techniques can be used, but stress on the use and applications of electrochemical methods will be given, which has been proved as a powerful and versatile tool to monitor ArN2+ ions.
